So I was reading up a bit on sodium and the endurance athlete, here re. hyponatremia:

"The spectrum of symptoms can range from mild to severe and can include nausea, muscle cramps, disorientation, slurred speech, confusion, and inappropriate behavior."

Okay, so in my case, how could anybody tell?!

you're screwed. Actually the general endurance athlete population is screwed.

No kidding. And isn't that just the definition of a race? That's me on a good day.

Good morning Pod and Happy Independence Day to those in the US. I have a 20 mile bike on the schedule today but am heading off on an 8 mile, 5,000 ft incline hike with my son. I'll do the bike after, if I feel like it.

Welcome back Felicia.  San Antonio is probably the only major city in Texas that I haven't been to.  Sounds wonderful.

I was cracking up reading the email updates about the hyponatremia.  It does sound like Yanti on a regular basis and most of us on a semi-regular basis Surprised

Off to hike a mountain.  See ya later! (Oh, I got an email today from Active.com for "how to handle your first 5k".  I found it amusing.

I took Mudwater (the race this Sunday) off my schedule. Vacation killed my training, and I'm not ready to jump back into a race in four days. I'm kind of sad about it, but not that much. I want to train. And vacation was worth it.

I don't know how much I will get done today. We slept in this morning, and it's already beastly hot. Running after dark tonight could be a problem since we're doing/watching fireworks. Oh, well. One more day won't kill me, right?

Good morning, evening, and afternoon all. Happy 4th to those of us that celebrate such things, please stay safe. I read through the thread and am consistently amazed with ya'll.

Jo, that is one nutty training session. Lightening is nothing to take lightly, please be careful.

Salty, get the lowest possible number. I had 19 at one race last year and had people asking if I was a pro. As they passed me. Really?!?!

Janyne and Claire, enjoy the heck out of your events today! Note to self, if I ever ride in the Carolina's, I must first find Janyne. In the words of Homer Simpson, "MMMMM, Beer".

Felicia, I'm glad you had a good time in the comparative cool of Texas.

Yanti, Zabriski's uni in the prologue was awesome. I'd love to see him go deeper into the race, but he really is a specialist, isn't he? I am enjoying the Tour more this year than ever before. Even my wife is getting into it.

Erica, great to see that you were out there running. Congrats!

Today was a mock run through of the Sprint I am doing next week. I think I went a bit short on the swim and a bit long on the bike and run. I was really happy with it. I think I'll be adjusting my time goal a bit, I think I can probably go about 1:21 or maybe even shorter if I push through it and get to the puke point. I didn't bother today, since it was a mock run. It should be fun next week.

HAHAHA I wrote in Sherwen-Liggetisms (though it's one different commentator this year) that they said about Zabriskie:

"Captain America! That really works for him. Can't mistake that for anything else. Well, Puerto Rico."

Snerk

Did I tell you my first cycling coach was (is) Zabriskie's training partner? Huh? Huh? Oooooh yeah. I know, I probably did write that already 3 times in this thread, but still. Hey, new thread, time to repeat that. Good grief, he's hot. I should write him ... I have so much to thank him for, still. Kind of annoying when he brought his fiancee to meet me, in that gee-I'm-glad-we're-such-good-FRIENDS way, but eh. Couldn't he bring DZ to meet me? Laughing

Smooth run-through! I do encourage you to go for the puke point ... there's an oddly amazing euphoria there and especially afterward.

That's perfect!!! Well, it's perfect if you puke right after the finish line, but not on a volunteer.

My husband always cleans the cat litter.  I couldn't while I was pregnant and never started again.  He's awesome that way.

Met with the ortho yesterday.  He recommended arthroscopy.  I'd be in a cast two weeks and no weight bearing for at least 6 weeks.  Glad I have a second opinion next week.

jogo - 2012-07-04 1:32 AM

jogo - 2012-07-03 1:48 PM Car packed for my 1st training tri (before the real thing on Sunday).  Its pouring, thundering, and 100% humidity.  Supposed to clear up and then warm up to 104 degrees by the time I make it out to my favorite swimming hole.  Here is to the 1st OWS in 3 years!!  Here is to seeing if my wetsuit still zips (and for those who like it, the zoot decor is right where a tramp stamp would be and is quite a conversation piece that I am never selling!).  Here is to trying out the new tri-suit before race day!  Here is to surviving and not getting struck down by lightning (which could happen because I said H*LL would have to freeze over before I did another tri and it sure is NOT frozen, it is full blown, the-devil-is-my-pace-booty HOT out there!)!

Holy H*LL in a Handbag!!  In the middle of a deserted lake (with my newbie friend) and torrential downpour, complete with tons of lightning and scary booming thunder.  Not a soul around.  Thank God we had our wetsuits on (virtually impossible to drown).  Could not put head in water to swim because could not breathe when I tried.  The rain was pouring so hard it was hard to get any breath.   We finally made it out, kissed the ground, and the trail we walked out to get to secret lake was flooded.  We had to wade through mud to get back.

Managed to clear up as we got out so we still got 14 hilly miles in on the bike and then bailed on the run because the storms started just as we racked our bikes.  So happy to be home, eating a chicken schwarma sandwich and drinking ar really good Founder's KBS stout ale.

We didn't die, so all is good.  Bring on the tri!!  (I may have panicked a little when we were holding each other up because we couldn't see each other with all the rain.  Bad news, my cell phone was with my towel in a dry bag and got soaked. So much for a waterproof bag in weather like that.  It is sitting in rice, hoping that it comes back to life.

Wow!!!!

Glad you are safe, I want to read the RR for your 'never again' tri

Hmmmm the RD for the marathon coming up just e-mailed and asked what bib number we want (it's a small marathon

I don't really have a favorite number I guess...any ideas?

I think there are only 400 people so it can only be 1-400

My fav numbers are those with the least amount of numbers in it.  Ex: 222 (or 22, or 2), or 333.  Next best is something like 242...  I once had a sail number (I used to race sailboats) whose # 181811 - it was coveted by other racers!!

It's a shame there was not six hundred and sixty six entries, or i could have suggested an appropriate numberTongue out

We're back from San Antonio. We had such a wonderful time -- Natural Caverns; Bracken Bat Flight http://www.brackenbatflight.com/(Watch the video -- it was one of the most amazing sights we've ever seen. I will never forget it.) -- and The Schlitterbahn Water Park. Took our bikes down the river walk until we ran into people, then walked them to Casa Rio and had our favorite bowl of chili.

Really did no training -- swimming one night; two bike rides on my hybrid. Lots of walking. But I haven't run in a week. Yikes!

Nice to have you back.

Good Chilli is a special thing.

ebshot - 2012-07-03 11:27 AM I went for a 2 mile run today.  It was hot and humid and I totally melted and was slow as slow can be.  But I felt good and so happy I got it done.  Who cares what my pace was, I was out there.

Exactly. I am hoping to get out there tomorrow sometime. Our high should be 102+, but I bought arm coolers and a Halo headband in San Antonio, so I am prepared! :-)
