Elite 3221 the desert | Subject: RE: Walking Dead Season 3 !!!! (May be spoilers!!) Just caught last night's episode. I think the thing with Merle is a farce. Sure the governor is pissed off that he lied, but now he can easily get Merle on the inside of Rick's camp. He'll look like he is showing mercy by letting Darryl and Merle go. Darryl (& Andrea) will vouch that Merle was "kicked off the island" and should become part of the group again. Really, he will just be the insid man the the governor wanted him to be.........or I could be way off base |

Bripod - 2012-12-03 2:48 PM GomesBolt - 2012-12-03 1:43 PM I don't think they need to be 100% accurate, but they at least have to be plausible and consistent within their own universe. T-Dog gets taken down by two zombies and is about 75% un-eaten. Lori gets discovered by one zombie (from what we can tell) and she is eaten whole--bones and everything? Hmm...the bear - 2012-12-03 1:45 PM I get a kick out of people who criticize the unrealistic details of a show whose major underlying premise is survival in a post-apocalypse zombie- infested world. That's where you and I disagree... They should be on the hook for the accuracy of everything except for the fact that there are flesh-eating zombies. Think "Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies." The only change from the story was that there were zombies... Well, let's say you put out a whole cake on the counter. Maybe someone eats one piece, maybe someone else just eats a small sliver, and maybe someone eats half the cake at once. I don't think all zombies have to behave exactly the same way as far as how much they eat, based on personal capacity, whether they fed recently elsewhere, and whether something interrupted them. |

GomesBolt - 2012-12-03 2:49 PM mr2tony - 2012-12-03 1:40 PM tuwood - 2012-12-03 12:38 PM Yeah and when they threw the smoke canisters to alert the bad guys where they were. Um, why did they do that? I get a kick out of the "tactical aspect" of the show as well. I was laughing when they dropped gas to free Glenn and Maggie and all the bad guys got wiped out from the smoke, but they all strolled in with no masks on like it was no big deal. huh? Then the always present walking/running down a street with a half a dozen people shooting fully auto weapons at you and never getting hit at a range of less than 50 yards. Umm, yeah.... Not that I'm a badazz... But I've thrown CS Gas into a building and run in without a gas mask and grabbed someone... Smoke Grenades don't do anything but obscure. If you were in that situation with the building and having to clear the wall, you'd be better off throwing it at the people who are trying to hit you. They said it was White Phosphorous in the story sync. Funny thing about WP (nicknamed Wooly-Pete) grenades is that the effective casualty radius is 30 meters. Average person can't throw that grenade further than 10 meters. So you chuck it and run the heck away! It doesn't create smoke, so much as burn everything white hot. If it gets on your flesh, you have to hold it underwater (to choke it out of oxygen) and cut the flesh off that it is stuck to. Combination Artillery rounds of High Explosive (HE) and WP are nicknamed Shake and Bake. Coolest radio transmission to make: "Shake and Bake, Fire for Effect!" It looked and sounded like to me that they threw in a pair of flashbang stun grenades, not CS gas. It made a loud bang (although the flash wasn't represented on camera as it wouldn't look good on TV. EVERYONE was disoriented and Rick and crew rushed in to grab Glen and Maggies. I've trained with stun grenades and when they go off in front of you, you're blind for a good 15 seconds, you're deaf for a good 5 minutes and for the first minute or so, you're dizzy as hell. You get caught flat-footed by one and you're a sitting duck! The prison would have them for riot control. Didn't look like they used any WP. Just regular smoke. Since they were in the middle of the enemy which had superior numbers and firepower, it made sense. The Woodbury guards would easily know where they were by the sounds of the shots and the muzzel flashes of the guns at night. The smoke just makes it difficult to aim at anything. Yeah, they'll know where you are in the general direction. But a good smoke cloud prevents any type of decent aim. Good smoke is even effective for tanks when going up against sight-aimed anti-tank missles and armor-piercing grenades like RPGs (very popular with the enemy)... Although RPGs really don't come close to penetrating Mirk or Abrams armor. What's the key in that battle? Tactics, experience, and especially KEEPING CALM AND DOING THE JOB EFFECTIVELY AND EMOTIONLESS! Rick's prison group didn't panic and with bullets whizzing around them, they knew the smoke prevented the enemy from getting good aim. They moved controlled and with purpose. Even Maggie keeps her calm and Effectively fires her handgun. The Woodbury guards panicked and fired wildly. Only the one guy with the shotgun who walked out and shot the prisoner ally kept his calm... Until Rick put one in his cheek.

Really, he will just be the insid man the the governor wanted him to be.........or I could be way off base I like your thinking on this. "way off base"? No, You're spot-on! Three reasons... First, the look the Governor gives Merle after Michonne kills his daughter and takes out his eye. Without words it says, "kill them ALL!". Second, we're off quite a bit from the graphic novel, but not so much as to say that Darryl and Merle are killed at this time. And third, in the previews for next season, they show the big prison battle and Darryl's in it. They're either banished or allowed to escape or more than likely Andrea, recognizing Darryl, manages their escape. The big question will be Darryl... For what Merle did to Glen and Maggie, he could NEVER be allowed back into the group. But based on all that Merle did to his friends, could Darryl kill his own brother? BTW, for anyone who wants to know what happens in the graphic novel... It's Rick, Glen and Michonne who are captured in Woodbury when they head out of the prison to investigate the helicopter crash (a former TV news crew - which the Governor feeds to biters)(helicopter link to the TV show). The Governor tortures them to find out where the prison is. He cuts off Rick's right hand. He brutally then rapes Michonne with Glenn hearing it all (sort of close to the TV show with Glenn hearing Maggie, but not actually raped). When they still don't give the location, he tries a different tactic. He has one of his guards "turn traitor" and help them escape, so they can follow them back to the prison (your premise above). Once they know the location, the Governor intends to attack it and kill everyone. Rick and Glenn leave with the guard, but Michonne stays behind. Like in the show, she waits in the Governors house. When he comes back they fight and... (see below) When they get back Rick catches the guard trying to sneak back to Woodbury and he strangles him to death. [WARNING!!!] The description below is VERY DISTURBING!!! You don't need to read it. Michonne gets away and the Governor is wounded, but alive and missing an eye (as well as other parts). Trust me - it's quite SICK! . . . . . . Like in the show, Michonne waits in the Governors house. When he comes back they fight and in the fight, she bites his neck and then hits him on the head with the butt of her katana until he passes out. The show doesn't come close to depicting how much of a monster the Governor is and how vicious Michonne can be.

Who didn't see that coming? Haha they just don't have room for two brothers in the show! Knowing what my buddy has told me about Michonne and the governor in the comics, I understand that she had a legit reason to want to off the Gov based on the story from the comics but from the TV show story it seems a little fabricated... I guess the Gov did send Merle to kill her... Hmm...There is a significant difference between the Governor's actions & motivations on the show & in the comics. In the show he's "bad" in so far as he's willing to ambush some soldiers for their gear, but he seems to genuinely care about his town. In the comics, he's more power-mad & crazy..especially after his, uhm, interaction with Michonne. Since I'm pretty sure it's not happening in the show, I'll mention that there is a scene in the comics where the Governor tortures & rapes Michonne. Essentially what happens to Maggie happened to Michonne in the comics, only it didn't stop there. It's pretty dark, and it's part of why Michonne loathes the guy so much. I don't have a problem with how they're portraying the Governor in the show, they really couldn't go all the way with his character unless they moved the show to HBO. But the guy's a straight up maniac in the comics by the time his story arc & Rick's story arc diverge.
As for people complaining about Rick's crew not finding the armory, in the comics they did. There's actually a minor plot point about them running around in the full body armor and how it helps with the zombies. If memory serves, Glenn was caught by the Governor while wearing the body armor, and is part of how they figure out where Rick's crew is located.
Oh, and in the comics, Dale is still alive right now.

So here's my catch-22: While I probably have the wits, combat experience, weaponry, and skills to survive the zombie apocolypse... I wouldn't last several months. Without several pharmacies well-stocked with Synthroid, Samsca (very rare) and Hydrocodone that I could raid - I would be easy prey once my meds ranout. I'm now a slave to the modern pharmaceudical industry.

lol, yeah I read on a prepper website that stockpiling meds is almost as important as stockpiling food and weapons. One guy was going to the doctor every month with some sort of "sniffles" to get antibiotic prescriptions and faking a back injury to get pain killers. He had a picture of a sealed container packed full of drugs. I don't really get into any of that because my "prepping" is more along the lines of being able to survive a regional disaster for 30 days. I'm not as worried about the multi-year zombie apocalypse. |
