My legs are cooked after this weekend!  Very grateful for a swim day, followed by a rest day to start this week off.

How was everyone else's weekend?

kenb, how was the race?

My Half Iron was less than stellar

I was sick Thursday night and took Friday off from work to recuperate, and Saturday morning I felt okay and went to the tri with the idea I can always just drop out if I start to get sick.

The swim and bike were decent for me, I did the swim in 47 min , and the bike was 3:40 or about a 15 mph avg, which again is decent for me. The run ugh ! 3:42 , I'd run for a min and felt sick so I'd walk for 2 and then run a min and then walk. Just frustrating, but it was a training day and learning day so here was my take away.

1 More cow bell , I mean bricks .

2 Get my stomach, body used to gatorade, gels or whatever for 6 plus hours.

So hopefully my bad day Saturday will make my day at Vineman better.

Ken-Nice job on the swim/bike portion.  I can only imagine what a suffer fest the run must have been feeling that lazy.  My take away from your race...you have the determination to cross the finish line no matter what shape you are in.  That means you will finish at Vineman too.

swgtri-I hear ya about being cooked!  I, too, am so happy to see that the only workout scheduled for today is a long swim.  I don't even care that it is going to be the longest swim I have done, I don't have to go run or bike. Yippee!  The only bummer is I just noticed that my schedule doesn't give me any rest days this week.

Is anyone else using the free beginner IM training plan from this website?

akrenik - 2013-04-22 8:13 AM 14 weeks....

I know...right around the corner.  YIKES.  Need to get in all I can and quit missing workouts.  I am hopeful I can swim this week.  Chest feels better today after my bike crash last week.

Have a bike tonight for about an hour; spin out the legs.  Should have completed it yesterday after my run, but after dethatching the lawn, grouting tile in the bathroom and running 1:15 I was tired.  Did 3 hrs on the bike trainer on Sat. at 18 plus.  Then a 30 min. transition run.  Felt OK.  HR rate was pretty good.

Have a great training week everyone. : )

You can learn so much about yourself during a tough spot.  Way to push through it Ken.  Having Plan B and C's are part of it.  I only hope I can persevere during these tough times.

25mph sustained winds made for a miserable ride yesterday. But 50 miles are in the bank. Getting there.

Lisa, that will just make you stronger come race day (at least that is what I always try to tell myself during rides like that)!  Way to get it done!

Thanks, but I don't know. I honestly feel like my time might have been better spent indoors where I could have gotten in a more solid ride. I was so worried about the danger of being pushed out into traffic from the cross winds, and being slowed to 8mph in the head winds it really sucked all of the life (and speed) out of me.

Anyone else opt to ride indoors for long rides due to high winds? I've done 2.5 hours on a spin bike before but that's as long as I've gone indoors.

I don't want to come off as a wuss, I mean I once did a 100-mile ride in 30mph sustained, 50mph gusts. That was way worse but it was for charity and I wasn't going to stop.

I just feel like the quality could have been much better, almost feels like a waste of 3.5 hours

Hey Akrenik

Yeah I figured you were going for stupid, or sick, instead of lazy

And Lisac great job with that bike, I think with nasty rides like that you might not get huge returns in fitness, but you more than make up for it in mental toughness . I might have done better Saturday had I done more long bricks before and really knew how far I could push . Yeah I was sick, but I won't lie, I think a part of me took advantage of that not to push harder. It's where those 3 hour trainer rides, or cold water swims, or bike or runs into 50 mile an hour winds give us a little character , which we can draw from later.

I have done up to 3.5 hrs on a trainer. I did 3 hrs on Sat. and ave. 18.3 MPH. I didn't crash either. Three rides outdoors this year and I ended up in the ditch once on my back and the other I ended up landing on a curb on my chest aftyer hitting a crack in the road in wet weather turning around a corner. I opted for a ride on my trainer after that mishap. I have some long suppoted rides planned coming up. May 4th our club is talking about heading to Washington State to do a ride around Clark County, WA. 100 miler or 65 miler. $35 is a pretty good price. I also have a 100 miler supported ride planned in mid june. Very hilly to start but levels out after.I generally ride in the afternoon outdoors and the wide picks up around here at that time. Head wind heading out and tail wind coming back in.

Way to get out there.  It really will make you stronger.  It was not a waste.  Due to the cold and wet winters in Cincinnati, I have done several 100 mile - 6 hour trainer rides in my basement.  Have I mentioned how happy I am now that I live in San Diego and most likely will not need to do any more of trainer rides of that length.  Laughing

Finally got to the pool on tuesday to get my training week started off right.  Always seem to miss this one and never can get it back in.  I was worried my injured uppper chest would prohibit me from swimming.  It hurt initially but loosened up and was able to swim my regular workout.  Didn't seem to lose much after a week off.  Happy, Happy, Happy.

Brian-glad you had a good swim!

I am still battling the pinched nerve in my back.  The good thing is that it hurst most when I am doing everyday things (siting, breathing, lying down) but doesn't feel badly when I run, bike or swim.  Rode 90 minutes on the trainer last night.  I don't know how you guys do those long trainer rides.  It was so boring!  I used music, tv, and playing with my phone to distract me, but all I could think about the whole time is how much longer until I stop.

Have a great day!

Akrenik , my only two thoughts on that were , "wow, there's incentive to train! " and where else are you going to hear someone say the good thing is it only hurts when I'm not training

Of course since we are all training for a 140.6 distance the only time you’re not training is when you're unconscious

So true about the only time you aren't training is when you are unconscious.  I am so TIRED!  I catch myself daydreaming at work about going home and going straight to bed.  Of course, I never can go straight home and go to bed because there is always a workout to be done. Yell Plus, my family still needs me to be a wife and mom.  Once this is over I think I am going to sleep for a week!!   And then I will find another race to sign up for and start all over again. haha  Laughing

When I am done with this I am going to Disneyworld. I really am. Leave August 3rd. I won't be signing up for a race for awhile after this is complete.

Have my first triple tomorrow. 40-minute swim, 50-mile bike, and 6-mile run. It's supposed to be 52-63 degrees on the bike. That's the best I've had since November in Colorado.

I'm in Colorado Springs, which is great for hill training. The downside is it varies 10 or 15 degrees from one side of town to the other.

By the way, does anybody have complete data on the elevation changes for the bike portion. The website says something to the extent of "4,000 feet of climbing," but this map-my-ride map shows only 2,000 feet of elevation gain. Do you think "climbing," in reference to the website's words is both ascension and descent?

I have a sense that it is elevation gain and doesn't include descents.
