Got Wahoo? 5423 San Antonio | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Ha! I never quite managed to get perma-banned, though I'm sure I came close.... My .02: The expansion/segmentation of the forums/mentor groups created silos that took away from the sense of community. Kind of like a party at a resort where everyone is in the rooms but not in the lobby. It's a great resort, but it's hard to engage with folks unless you head to the rooms, and that's mildly awkward unless you are invited or know those sub groups. Solution: kill most of the sub forums. If someone wants to talk about texas tris, they do it in the main tri forum. All been discussed, I'm sure, but that was my personal experience. Also, some of us moved on to other interests. I will always remember Ron showing up for a funeral in Brandon. That's all I need to know about how special BT is. [Apparently, I no longer know how to edit a post.] I helmed our boat to a win within our class with an all female crew. My hubby (I got married, he is perfect for me) lets me take the boat out without him now. It's a very cool thing to know how to do that. I've never sailed before, but would love to learn one day! I'm learning to fly (well, I soloed and just knocking out requirements to get license) which has proven to be a rewarding challenge. Hope all finds you well!! |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Thanks, Mike. It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time. The more I learn, the more I realize there's so much more to learn. I enjoy the mental workout and focus that helming demands. But mostly, I just love being on the water. We did a long, overnight race last year which I will do again this year, but without my husband on board this time; also, an all female crew this time. 6am coffee with a cool Gulf breeze and sunrise is magic. Flying! Very cool. I know a guy who owns a corporate jet charter company, he's always looking for pilots. |

Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? I had a friend in HS that came from a wealthy family. They had a 72 foot boat that they kept in a marina around Kemah. He was allowed to take the boat out with friends, but my dad never let me go. I guess he didn't have faith in a 16 year old Skipper and an inexperienced crew. They never had any problems, but looking back, my dad was probably right not letting me go. Sailing a boat is definitely science, winning races is an an art form IMO. Well done. Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? (Sorry, fairly late in replying) Color me very impressed on your stomach for flying. I went up in this craft last year and my knuckles were white, death gripping on the bar in front of me. I have no interest in repeating this again. I am a big fan of terra firma and/or a boat deck under my feet. Champion 8903 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? I'd been a regular here, starting back around March 2004. I haven't been on the site for probably the better part of 6 years when I moved to Arizona. I went through a number of medical issues a few years ago but have come out on the healthy side of my surgery. I have given up doing triathlons, with my last one probably as part of a team at the NH Timberman. I've sold my tri bike. I recently moved back to MA to be near the grandkids and am back to my old past time of hiking and mixing in some (mostly off road) running. I've made the lottery for the road race up Mt Washington in NH in mid June. As I approach my 69th birthday this summer, I can tell I have slowed down, but still am staying active. I have no idea what brought me back here after a long absence...just a flight of fancy I guess. I'm sure the site has changed a lot since I was last here, and I'm not sure how much I will post (if anything) but hello anyways to some of the regulars who might remember me. |

I am a big fan of terra firma and/or a boat deck under my feet. That's so cool. I've never had the opportunity to go up in an open air bi-plane, jealous… I'm guessing the open air aspect of the flight might have been a contributor to the death gripping fear. I bet you'd do much better in a small plane without all the added noise and wind from flying out in the open air. Although my most recent flight was a solo cross country that was so rough, if it been my first flight, I probably would not have continued lessons. I hit a pocket of air that dropped me so quickly, I actually hit my head on the ceiling. Lesson learned; strap in tighter than I had been! |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? It was a windy day but the worst part was when we did a tight 360 bank around a piece of property that is a local curiosity. A German built a stone castle in the middle of nowhere in Wisconsin. I didn't care about seeing it, or just getting a glimpse was enough. Instead, he did a complete circle which had me leaning to balance myself. Even though I was cognizant that I wasn't going to fall out, my brain was not happy about the experience. It is a beautiful craft, originally built in 1947 and restored by father/son team who own the airfield. I learned about the legacies of families who own airplanes and airfields/ports. That was pretty cool. Cross-country solo. Kudos. That takes an iron constitution. Edited by Renee 2017-03-14 12:23 PM |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? I was pretty active here back in 2013/14 when I first started with triathlons. I finally found a few people locally to train with, so that got me off the internet, pretty much. Now that I'm looking at a full Ironman distance I'm back to learn more about it, how to train for it. I also kind of lost motivation after I became super sick the morning I was supposed to race Subic Bay 70.3. Trying to get back at some kind of maintenance program, but just not feeling it. I recognize a few of you. I wasn't around too long and participate much, but I learned a lot from you all. |
