Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread kstater39 - 2011-06-14 3:37 PM Bike dropped off today. Am I ready? Man I should have pushed those intervals more - damn hills to come! WHy did I miss those work outs - seems like it was due to work or family activities - but now I just see the missed work outs. It is for real now. Calm. Inhale! You are ready. No way you will quit! Who cares what the time is. Just has to be sub 17 hours. Calm. Inhale - just accept that this is doable and attitude is the key. The attitude of patience and overlooking pain or discomfort. Honey badger this b*tch!!! Now could be a good time for some high intensity short duration workouts. Maybe you can hit the local gym or Y and get in a Spin Class or two. I have been doing them all year instead of trainer rides and they are awesome. But, my instructor is a cyclist and most of our workouts are structured more like traditional bike workouts and less like an aerobics class. |

Extreme Veteran 833 Strong Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Somehow I managed to tweak my knee yesterday, and it wasn't even from training. I think it may have been when holding the baby and bending down to pick up the dogs ball...something I do a hundred times a day. Kinda hurts at full bend in either direction, but not excruciating, more like a deep muscle soreness and I can't really pinpoint where the discomfort is coming from. I have zero pain when running, or swimming....and no pain during the hour I did on the trainer yesterday to test it out, but it did hurt a bit when i climbed off the bike. After a few easy stretches I was fine to walk around and run.
Taking all of today off with lots of rest and icing. Have no problem taking every day till next sunday off if need be, but this is really f$cking with my mind right now....taking everything I can to not be really depressed. Son of a .....! |

2nd pic is after the 11:27 finish.

Regular 69 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread kiki_zen - 2011-06-14 12:33 PM I'm renting one of those My Athlete Live GPS trackers now too. I thought that's kinda cool, but not necessary. When I mentioned it to my husband he was like 'Yes! Rent the damn thing." I guess running around on race day guessing where your athlete maybe gets a bit frustrating. The funny thing is that this year our rental is in a good spot on the bike and run course so I bet they never leave after coming back from watching the swim start. They will be the obnoxious people out around mile 5 or 6 just before bennet bay on CDA lake drive drinking very good beer and ringing cow bells. If you look at the beer too long they will offer you some (it won't be defizzed ). sounds like my kinda people! i may have to tell my husband to hunt them down and he can join them with his own cooler |

Extreme Veteran 833 Strong Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Question on race day logistics for spectators:
We're staying at the La Quinta Inn on Sherman...about a mile and a half away from transition. My wife, mom, and my 3 kids will be our cheering section. Is there a place near the run/bike turnaround where they can set up camp for the day? The older kids will have their scooters to get around, but with the baby (22 months) I was thinking of bringing the wagon to load her, chairs, and all the other junk that our family carts around so they can get down there easily, then just stake a claim to a spot for the whole day...and walk back to the hotel if need be.
Thoughts suggestions? |

8 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hi all, I have been following this thread and not posting (now, i dont seem to know why) but I would like to say thanks for this thread and all of the info. This is my first full IM and it's nice to see that others are going through what I am. Also wanted to say train safely out there. There just was a news report about a kid who was training for an Ironman sometime next month (dont know which one) and was hit by a truck in Pierce County Wa and has had brain sugery etc since yesterday. I know I felt safer on my trainer today than I do on my usual outside rides. Hope to see you all out there. -Ryan |

I had a 7 mile temp run after work per my plan and it was 101 degrees with 30% humidity. It was like running in quicksand to stay below marathon pace. Looking forward to the CdA weather. |

Thoughts suggestions? That hotel is right on the bike course. They could watch the bike from there and then the corner of 23rd and Mullan (3 blocks south) is a good place to watch the run from. Then as you are heading out from there on your last loop of the run, they could make their way to the finish line. |
