mrwrite - 2011-06-15 3:50 PM In other news: MY WIFE HAS PNEUMONIA!!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!! Obviously, I feel HORRIBLE for her, especially because she is supposed to run in the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay this weekend. But, and yes this will come across as sounding completely self-absorbed, I'm scared to death I'm going to get majorly sick now. Any suggestions on how to not catch pneumonia from your significant other?

I personally would take the "Clown Fish" Approach. The Clown Fish lives in an Anemone and regularly scrubs himself with the stinging cells so that he does not get zapped by his own home.

I think you should spend as much time as possible getting as close as you can to DW; making sure that she has everything she needs to feel better. In the end, you will gain some level of immunity and won't get sick before the race

The clown fish undergoes a protandrous sex change from male to female, if that influences your decision at all.

Knowing that, maybe I should not have posted that picture of me with melons.

I forgot to add - my LBS in Seattle (Speedy Reedy) is sending most of their employees to race CdA this year.  So keep an eye out for them as well.  They'll probably be wearing their own kit.

Flared up some achilles tendinitis on a 19 miler Monday, guess the taper is going to be even sharper than previously expected.

Sorry if this has already been talked about, but I heard rumor that the run course has changed a bit. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, it has changed. There is no out and back on the road by the college anymore. We have to run farther up the 6% grade out by the lake that is also part of the bike course. I'm not sure if we go down the other side or not. Translation - a little more hill to climb.

For those using Tribike Transport, what are you using to tag your bike, wheels and gear bag with? I think I can get some  luggage tags but I know they suggested putting something inside wheel bag and gear bag too. Maybe I am overlooking something here.

Seems like a sheet of paper with your contact info would be plenty inside your bags.

Yes - you go all the way up and over and then down the other side a ways. Not fun but it is what it is.

I'm also starting to get sick. Started getting a sore throat this afternoon Skipped my bike ride, came home and took a nap and now I'm sucking down Vitamin C and throat lozanges. Any other suggestions?

Try a little zinc, too.  The Vitamin C/zinc combination helps some.  Also, lots and lots of fluids and rests. Hope you feel better soon!  Hugs.

Rest, rest, rest. I don't think skipping a day or two of training now is going to make any difference. Feel better soon.

Zinc  is good and I swear by Airborne. I mix it with OJ and water. I also read a study that says Vit C can help boost immunity in endurance athletes but not necessarily the general population. Also, lysine is good for repairing tissue, along with the C.

I just got back from the doc. Been fighting something for a couple of weeks. Got a dose of meds (zythromycin) from one of the cda docs who has done the race a few times. Also got some advice about the race. Also, I swam the lake today. Nice and cold still. Was told by the park staff that it's 53 to 55. I'm hoping some of the clouds will lift and give us some sun shine for a few more degrees.#1467

Another vote for zinc, specifically Zicam lozenges in my case. I started to get something last week and managed to head it off with these. I now take one before bed each night just because it might help if something else shows up. There's definitely time to get it taken care of before the race, just rest a lot and take OTC stuff to prevent it from seriously taking hold.

I think I remember reading on the Coldeez label you are not suppose to mix zinc with any acidity drink like OJ.
