Hey Gang!

Looks like everyone had a good holiday weekend.

I was on the trainer this morning watching the tour, and man those guys turn some serious rpm's.  I found it seriously hard to keep up with even in a much higher gear than normal.  Do any of you pay much attention to your rpm's?

Also question for the group?  What type shorts are you wearing for your long events?  I am having serious issues with my shorts pinching while in aero mostly.  I have been using my bibs, then went to oomph distance, but seems like a cheap pair of zoots with the felt pad are most comfortable, but just don't know if I can hold up with those for a long ride.   Any ideas?

I'm guessing you want a male perspective here, but I love my Castelli Vizio's.  For me, riding a trainer is different from riding on the road. I tend to shift around a lot more outside and these hold up well under those circumstances.    Apply some chamois cream and I am good to go for all 112m.  I change for the run into compression shorts.  If you don't want that hassle, these are not the answer.

Nice to hear from you Barry.  Hope training is going well.

That's always the trick for me, I put that stuff on thick before a long ride.  Most of my stuff is Voler for bike stuff and I have a hodge podge for tri stuff, but my Orca tri-shorts worked well in Texas last year.

I've been paying more attention to RPM's lately trying to figure out what works the best for long rides with lots of climbs.

Interesting - I'm the opposite. I tend to shift around a lot more on the trainer than outside. I found that the only thing that seem to "work" is just a pair of running shorts. No pads. When I have longer sessions on the trainer, I use my tri shorts. Very minimum padding needed.

Outside, I tend to favor my Sugoi shorts. However, I'm still not 100% comfortable with my saddle...it's okay for shorter rides and I don't have issues, but I haven't gone any longer than 35 miles in them yet to make a final decision...with my Century ride coming up in a couple months, I should know whether they work or not. Oy. I hate "TRIALS"!

I have my longest sprint of the year on Sunday: 750 meter swim, 17.5 mile bike and 5K run. (Triangle triathlon). It is in Harris Lake which is used to cool the nuclear power plant so I may glow in the dark next week.

No racing here.  Hubby just left to spend 9 days fishing in Alaska.  If I wasn't taking care of the damn dogs, I'd be out causing trouble somewhere :-)  Anyone want to dog-sit for me??   Should have plenty of training time.  I'm still trying to figure out the asthma incident I had in the lake on Tuesday.  Doctor has me scheduled for a lung function test next Tuesday and allergy testing the following Monday.  In the mean time, I have to be very cautious in the lake. Undecided  What exactly does that mean?  I will make sure I have someone with me and stay close to shore.  The lake I swim in is shallow enough to stand up most of the way.  Going to order a Road ID so at least they can identify the body and notify my family!

Doug:  Looking forward to some glowing-in-the-dark pics.  Sounds like a great race.  Good luck and have fun!!

DJ: Glad to hear you're back and at it!

Roni:  Beautiful Scenery!  Wow!

Kim:  I want you along the next time I have a flat.  Awesome job out there.

desoto 400 mile bibs the whole way at IMTX.   but why not throw down a couple long rides in those zoots.. don't know until you try.  good you're thinking about this now too btw!

whats the tour?  is that part of the women's world cup or something?

John,

did you have the desoto bibs on under the wetsuit or change into them at T1?  The "whole way" means you ran in them too?

Yikes! Swim fast, Doug!

I'm racing Muncie 70.3 on Saturday! It's looking like a no wetsuit swim, which suits me fine (should save me an hour in T1). The bike is flat and fast - so far no wind in the forecast - so I'll have to stay calm as I'm passed by about 1000 people and hope to catch up with some of them on the hot, hilly run.

imtx wasn't wetsuit legal.  yes, i ran in them... i put the bibs and tri top on prior to the start and took them off when the race was done.  the only thing i changed was my shoes. i smile when i see people post nonsense that you can't run in them.  they are so freaking comfortable.  i wear straight 400 shorts (ie no bib) for shorter distances. give em' a shot, they might work for you.

this guy did ok in them up at cda recently.... 5th amateur / 16th overall.  HA!

and since i love posting pics... here one of my favorites from cda.  "chillaxin" with julie dibbens post race. awesome!!!!

No racing here.  Looking forward to tracking some Muncie folks!  Lighter than usual SBR over the weekend and then Camping on M/T/W with the extended Family to start Taper week!

Good Luck Racers ......  REPRESENT!!!

On the Bib question:  Desoto also makes a tri-bib that is a real hit with everybody I know that has them.  Same exact material, etc. as the 400 mile bibs, just a different chamois.

No real racing.....started my taper today!!  10 days until Vineman with Kim!  Praying that the heat goes down - we hit 102 yesterday.

I AM doing a Splash & Dash tonight.  1 mile swim, 3.1 mile run.  OWS and wetsuit removal practice more than anything else.

Sunday we leave to go camping for a few days - all of the other families have boats, so that should be a blast!

Anybody hears from Tracy, let us know how she's doing!

Not that anyone in this group remembers me, but I'm still surviving, sort of.  Last weekend was life flash before my eyes event.   We were in the mountains of western MD doing some mountain training for Canada (Sam I rode the SavageMan half course - OMFG!!!!) and on the return trip were almost in a head on collision.   We were driving home on a switch back through the mountains of WV and this chick was completely in our lane coming around the corner.  Luckily there was enough of a shoulder that Doug was able to swerve hard right to avoid the head on impact. Her car crashed into and all down the driver side of our van.  Thankfully we are all okay ( and miraculously the bikes are okay too) but the van is totaled.

So in addition to having to pay for IMCA and the dumb dog's torn ACL surgery, I need a new car. Of course I am still without a job so I'm just loving life right now.

But to be positive I've had some great breakthroughs with training.  I rode 100 miles in the mountains on the Blood Sweat and Gears race (13,000 ft of climbing) survived a training weekend on the SavageMan courses, and ran my first 20 miler.  And with all the craziness of the car crash my friends have been super generous and supportive.  I am very lucky.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful race season.  Sorry I haven't been talking on BT but my mood is not one I should contaminate others with.   I have been stopping by to see how my buddies are doing.

Canada is getting close and I am excited.  I think about you guys all the time and should stop by more often.  I forget how much this group cheers me up.
