Judi I told Brenton you're a fan he was chuffed!

Did you check out my swim video - here it is again if you missed it

And his notes.

Jo Notes:

Body position - Bending at the hips/waist a bit. Instead push your hips forward and squeeze your bum muscles a bit. Be tall in the water.

Head position - Looking a little too far forward. Extend neck and tuck chin back, have the back of your head out of the water. Imagine you're being measured how tall you are against a wall. Looking down or slightly forward.

Kick - Small, tight kick with your heels breaking the surface every few kicks. Not too much knee bend.

Pull - Right arm is pushing out wide.  Enter, lower hand slightly to  get into a strong catch position then pull through. Just need to make that slight change with your arm as you pull, the one where we made your inside part of your elbow hace more down than up to the sky.

Recovery and entry - Coming across head as you enter. In the recovery keep the movement going forward rather than swinging around

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_i_yK1grIiSaFJnTEp3VmYzZEk/edit?usp=sharing&pli=1

I really like how he phrased your corrections.  Gave a great example of what you *should* sense in the correction he made.  The head position one is really key for me.  I tend to hold my head too low and if I were to use that mental image of trying to measure taller I might manage to hold my head up more.

I like the other cues as well--clear with specific correction.  D@mn, I need a Brenton Piglet here!

To fix body position and head he made us do a couple of laps with a straight leg kick clenched buttocks.  Wow I was way faster!   Look slightly forward but not too far (I tend to look up and forward because of squad keeping an eye on the 9 year old in front of me!)

Head - try and be a centimetre taller was a great way to feel this correction.

Pull - we did an underwater dog paddle, catch up and a top to bottom scull.  All really helped.

The session was soooo helpful and my coach loved it when I sent it through.

Geez Louise!  A guy doesn't check in for a few days and there are 27 billion new pages, 2 new members and all kinds of racing manatees.

No way I have the time to read back through everything, so I'll just say Welcome new Podmates... and congrats racing manatees.

As for me, I'm almost recovered from my bike crash (the elbow is still a bit tender, and the huge bruise on my left hip is too).  I did however find another positive to come out of this crash.

NEW BLUE HANDLEBAR TAPE!!!

Now? You think we're getting into this just now? Where have you been?

St. Jude, the swim cords are great and won't do anything to your form that you wouldn't be doing in a pool, broadly speaking. In fact, I think there's a lot about them that can be used to IMPROVE your form. However, get a decent brand like Aquavee or another that uses a waist belt with two cords. It's my opinion that one-cord bungee systems are not as good, and DO NOT get the kind that attach to your feet. NO NO NO. That WILL eff up your form.

He said being in aero should feel like I'm leaning with my elbows on the kitchen counter. That was our goal.

I'm hoping to ride tomorrow.

It's miserably hot and humid here. I'm trying to enjoy it. But, icky.

What saddle did you end up with? What did you think of the whole process? Enjoy the ride!

CALLING ALL MANATEES!!!   TRI-NEWBIE EMERGENCY:  NEED TIPS STAT!

My friend, Veronica, has done one sprint tri last year and is doing her 1st HIM this weekend at Welland.   She is in need of any and all tips.  She is not on BT (not yet at least) and does not train with many people who have done a tri.  If you were going to give a newbie tips on what to do and not to do, what would it be?   Anything at all, as random as you may think, would help.   What lessons have you learned?  What are must-brings?   What are must-do's?  Gear list?   DON'T's?

Come on Manatees, help a pup (is that what they call a baby manatee?) out!!!

I will start:

Don't wear heavily padded bike shorts:  You will feel like you have a wet diaper on, get chafed where one should never be chafed and probably end up with a yeast infection.

*I told V to stalk this group and read as the day goes on so please welcome our newest stalker too.

HI VERONICA!!!

This used to be the official BT Beginners Guide ... now it's buried in a bunch of crap articles, but eventually we'll revise, resurrect, and re-center it where it belongs. It's good stuff.

I try to look at bigger, overarching themes. For this, keep working on how to consistently & frequently get in the workouts and execute them well. A lot of other things can fall under this and become easier to see in the first place & remember later with that in mind. Such as with Jogo's example, have clothing and gear that works well for you. Take the time up front to find something that works well so when you go through the workouts, you don't have to think about it. Stuff is just going to work time after time. Learn what situations help with consistency too, such as working with groups or more individual. I do better on my own much of the time and set up accordingly. Many others do better with groups when they can, and do so.

Don't stress about learning everything at once! It doesn't have to be perfect to go well.

Geez... how can you say no to that description???? That sounds saaaaweeet!

I know, right!?!?!?!?!? Not sure DH will buy in to yet another road trip race. The ONLY redeemable quality is that it is an hour north of Moab...

Don't you just need to show him the mtb trails nearby?  I know you can sell this!

Ok everyone to make the JOGO spreadsheet much much much easier and less time consuming for Joanne can I make the suggestion that if you are participating in the JOGO on Thursday night or Friday morning you post your over all totals here in the pod so that she doesn't have to stalk through everyone's log and 100 pages of our conversations about napping, yoga and swimming.

So for example I would just post:
JOGO 15 from 17 or something along tode lines.

Seeing how I am the first one (a part from Jo) to hit Friday morning I will post mine as a reminder to everyone else.

Hi Veronica. I've not done any Iron distance events as of yet, but have found this write up from another group I belong to useful(yes, I am a group Hussie).

The Terry butterfly is a pretty popular saddle.  The male version, the Fly (the one with the Buzz Off lettering), seems to be relatively popular as well.

This used to be the official BT Beginners Guide ... now it's buried in a bunch of crap articles, but eventually we'll revise, resurrect, and re-center it where it belongs. It's good stuff.

Hi Veronica!

I don't have any tips for this distance (haven't done one yet), but you should totally get a BT account and hangout.  It can't hurt.  Well, actually, it can hurt if it starts cutting into your training time, but that takes a couple of weeks, at least;)  There are good folk in this group who know their chit.  Welcome:)

Hi Veronica!

On top of the links that have been posted already, there's actually a thread in tri talk that seems like it also might have a couple of tips for you:

For myself, the one that speaks to me the most is to not go too hard on the bike so that you have nothing left for the run.  I do this every single time, and it makes the last leg of the race a lot less pleasurable than it could be.

Best of luck to you for your race!
