KSH - 2008-07-20 6:25 PM Dang, there are so many people crossing the finish line at this hour! All I know is that come hour 16... I won't have crowds crossing the finish line with me.
Oh yeah!  Don't need to share that spotlight with nobody!

I'm proud of you!

oceanannie - 2008-07-20 6:31 PM

It started raining before the swim and hasn't stopped since.  Some of you know I have issues riding in the rain (it's how I hurt my shoulder 5 weeks ago) and riding downhills in the rain.  This was not my day today.  I DNF'd at mile 70- I had major, major issues on the big scary downhill to Keene the first time, when lots were passing by me.  I knew before the end of the first loop that I was't making the bike cutoff this year, but wanted to make it to Keene again.  I wound up being last and had to walk my bike down half the second downhill segment and the entire 3rd segment (there are three main parts of it).  I knew I was dropping out in Keene- I wasn't making the cutoff and I wasn't staying out in the rain in those conditions.  I was the last "cyclist" and had a state trooper following me.  I only staying in until then as I had to get there on my own power- it was something I had to do as I wasn't letting it beat me.

Lots have dropped out- lots were in the medical tent.  Miserable day today.  Epic day.

Sounds like a very tough day out there. I don't know how people go screaming down hills in the rain. It's so scary. You did what you needed to do. Great job on finishing what you did!

come on Jess come on Jess!

i'm concerned that I haven't seen a run split from her tracking yet on IM.com. I hope it's just a delayed post thing. She's had a great race thus far (based on her times).... and running is her original background and strength. I just threw up a quick prayer for her.

Jess is a BT mentor group fellow-member....one of Betsy's tri-bamf's! and yup..

it stands for bad @ss M...... F....

What's her race number? Thanks.

Glad you are safe. It sounds like you made the right decision. I lost 2 friends in a bike accident in the rain. I don't know if I could have stuck it out like you did. Taking care of yourself is all that matters in the long run. You are an Ironman in my book.

Annie - Thank you for letting us all know you are ok. I can't imagine doing the IM in pouring rain given the course in LP, you are a rockstar for making it as far as you did!!!!!

Actually, I finished Ironman Lake Placid last year.  So that makes things a lot easier as I'm already an Ironman and already an IMLP finisher.  And I can still buy a finisher's jacket, as long as it doesn't say 2008 on it, tomorrow morning (sold out before I got there last year)

June's totals:
Bike:47h 24m  - 700.15 Mi
Run:26h 35m  - 132.55 Mi
Swim:21h 20m  - 60000 Yd

With mileage like that, you are solid iron!  We all have different issues and yours was out in force today.  Good job hanging in there as long as you did!
