Pull the wetsuit down to your waist, stop at the wetsuit strippers, take a seat and they'll take care of the rest

bridgeland - 2009-10-23 10:34 AM BIB# 1923, Wave 13,  Good Luck to everyone and have a safe race!

Side Note: Any tips on peeling off a wetsuit?  I just got on and have used it three times, and can believe how diffucult it is to remove only when you get to the lower ankles.

Does anyone know if spectators can come and go (via car) on race day or if they will be stuck at the park until the end of the race?

Last minute plan changes include bringing along the kids.

Thanks!

It sounds like all parking will be at the arena (finish line), with shuttles running until 10 a.m. After 10 a.m. spectators will have to walk the ~1mile back to the arena. I imagine you can come and go from the parking area at the arena as you please.

LEAVING TOMORROW MORNING! See ya'll down there!
Heh, y'all.

Yeah, I'm gonna freeze tomorrow!!  That wetsuit I ordered isn't gonna keep me any warmer while it's in transit to my house.

The arena finish is going to be SO cool.

When you're out on the bike course, be sure and say hello to El Diablo as you pass. That's my wife Carey wearing the horns for the 3rd year.

Very great race indeed! Thank you so much Keith! Organized, awesome volunteers, and the finish was amazing! I say the arena finish is a KEEPER!

I was equally impressed with how many BUSES you had shuttling athletes to the start!

Great job everyone. I had a job volunteering at this one. Me and my 2 daughters were on the bike course somewhere around mile 25 at that aid station at the corner of Monkey and Elgin River Road. Pretty sharp turn there. I was so proud of my daughters for wanting to get up early and work with me. We live near Corpus Christi 3 hours away and went up to Austin Saturday afternoon. It was a great day for us. My daughters were great cheerleaders and the 3 of us can hardly talk this evening after losing our voices.

Let me say it was an honor seeing all of you race and I plan on being out there with you all next year!

I had a great experience today at my first Ironman 70.3!

Can't do the whole report yet (too tired) but in summary:
Goal: 6 hours
Official Time: 5:58:03.97

My swim was RIGHT ON target: 0:40:04.72
Bike was a bit FASTER than expected: 2:58:45.85
Run was a MINUTE SLOWER per mile than target: 2:11:44.80

Considering those hills, and the fact that I did a LOT of walking that 3rd loop, I am absolutely THRILLED with my finish.

Big thanks to my family for coming out to cheer, to my friends for their words of encouragement, to the BT site for my training plan, and to this Forum Topic (and all the other related ones) for the advice and encouragement. Oh, and I cannot forget to thank the Race Director, the Staff and all the volunteers out there. YOU WERE OUTSTANDING!

I cannot wait to do this again!

Cool

So much fun! But Keith, bro, you are sadistic...that downhill with a sharp right turn only to be met with a steep incline. Killed me. Actually, the layout of the bike course is great considering the hills are mostly at the beginning.

I said hello to Satan. Made me chuckle.

Endorfun is a 1st class organization. My 1st tri was Lonestar and it really spoiled me as far as events go. Longhorn surpasses Lonestar! I also do not travel outside of Texas for triathlons but the only reason I would consider doing so is if Endorfun was hosting.

The arena finish was definitely great. Another fantastic race by Keith and crew.

One off-site issue: my parents were bummed because they had major problems with the video. Not sure if the problems were at the site, with the streaming server, or on their end, but the video was pretty much unwatchable.

I agree, the race was fantastic.  This was my first HIM, and I have to say it was well organized for all those people.  I managed to complete it in sub 6.  The swim, bike and run was great.

I fumbled a bit bagging all my gear in T1 and T2, but it was still great.

The only thing that sucks is my run times did not get posted.  It's like I fell off the map after the bike.  That sucks bad since it shows DNF and I dont know my run time.  So I used by buddy that I caught up to in the bike, and I pretty much stayed on him and was a couple minutes behind him on the run.  His times posted fine so I am using that as a gauge.  Definately a finisher!  Hopefully the finish line pic will show my total time so I can know exactly.  Great race though!

I hate to see DNF though!!!! Timing chipYell!!!

Hands down the best produced event I have attended to date!  Excellent job, Keith and team!  The volunteers were great, provided a lot of inspiration, and were very enthusiastic the entire time.  Thanks for making my first HIM a great one!

...except for that last 1/2 lap on the run.  Though that's probably mostly my fault burning too much on the bike and probably not following a great nutrition plan.  Lessons learned for next time!

I second the arena finish being great. That was a lot of fun, and finishing at the expo center was a HUGE improvement! Keith and company - I know you guys put a ton of thought and effort into that, so thank you!!!

Dennis - as far as the video, I did have a couple people that used it and had no issues, so maybe it was a problem on your parents' end. Bummer that they didn't get to see it, though. I wonder if it is technically feasible to capture that video and chop it up into 5 minute segments that could be downloaded. Just to give Keith something else to think/worry about Cool

Thirded on the arena finish, that was a spectacular way to end the event. This was the best event I've been to of any distance; KSH & I were discussing on the way back how well everything was done, Endorfun really puts on top-notch events.

BTW my Dad was having the same technical issues w/ the video feed. I'm guessing it was simply an overloaded server.

I had a great time keith. I spent a good deal of the race thinking about all the time and planning Endorfun must have put into this event, as all their events, making sure everything goes right.

That was my first 70.3 and I went a 5:14.47. My half mary was great, 1:37 and I did better than expected on the bike, which continues to be my achilles heel, 2:59. 34 minutes on the swim.

I really appreciated the support and had a wonerful day, even my wife and mother-in-law had a great time spectating.

Thanks and I'll see you in Galveston for Lone Star!

Just glad the race was Sunday and not yesterday
What a miserable day of cleanup yesterday.....

Video seemed to work well. It'll also be archived shortly, and on the website, so everyone who raced can watch as well. The video dude was at my house all evening last night, downloading the footage. Will let everyone know when it's ready....

So, is the arena finish/two transition area a keeper????

I was hesitant about the two transitions and the bags but actually liked it. Made for a very clean and simple T1/T2.  Arena finish was great, my vote is it's a keeper.

Only complaint/suggestion for the whole race comes from the 3 loop run course made for some very crowded aid stations... not sure what the solution is but something along  the lines of a express & walking lanes might be good. I accidentally ran into quite a few people that would stop dead in front of me while grabbing water.

Thanks for putting on a great race!
