Heather, you have a full plate.  And I did my first half IM this year and I LOVED that distance.  Long enough to enjoy every part but not so long I needed a medical tent after

I added everyone as explained. But I leave my profile public.  No need I can see to do otherwise.  So visit as ovften as you wish.  I was religious about logging, but stopped during the IT band recovery because I was only swimming 3 times and doing strength and stretching.  Not much too interesting.  Restarted when I joined here.

Happy New Year.  May the water be calm, the hills small, the wind always at your back.

Ice.

Thanks Iceman Cool   Happy New Year to you too!!

suzimmer - 2010-12-31 11:16 AM Anyone have fun plans for tonight?
For us, low key evening with some good friends.
Although I'm so used to going to bed at 9 that I'm going to have to take a nap if I want to stay up to midnight.

Had planned a fun ramble/hike at one of my two favorite places to say goodbye to the old year but it is pouring down rain and t-storms.  While I don't mind getting wet, I think I would get yelled at for running through lightning.

As I type this the tornado sirens are going off.  IN DECEMBER???  Guess I'm staying home.

Heather that sounds like a fun race and nice way to usher in the new year.   A 9:30 pace pushing a 4 year old in a jog stroller is pretty good in my book.  I pushed my niece a few time last year and it's a workout.

Angi... yeah it was thunderstorming here this morning as well.  Very weird in December.  Of course now the yard is a puddle of rain and melted snow and the dogs just HAD to go in the mud.....

I'll be in bed well before midnight; have a long run scheduled for tomorrow am.  Friday nights just haven't been the same since i took up marathons!

Well guys I smoked my last cigarette EVER last night.  That's it for me.  I'm done!

I recommend washing EVERYTHING. I remember the first time I put a smelly towel up to my face after a day off the smokes. I was DISGUSTED! Then I realized... everything smelled that way... ew! So I washed and cleaned and scrubbed EVERYTHING. Now when I smell a smoker I'm so glad I quit. And when I see a smokers drawn, pale, sad face I'm glad I quit.

I never smoked at home though.  It was only when I was out having beer.  So I quit that too.

Finally added everyone to my friends list and I also installed the 20 week marathon training program.  I have a book called "The Idiots guide to running" and it turns out the author was a smoker! He trained for a full marathon to help him quit so I'm taking a leaf out of his book.  I plan to do the 26.2 Rock N Roll in Seattle in June along with a friend of mine.

I'm thinking of staying home tonight and doing my own Polar Bear dip tomorrow.  Did the same last year. Brrrr.

No big plans for us tonight.  We've had such a busy break that I just want to chill out at home...plus my official training starts tomorrow and I will be up and at it early!  Oh, I will indulge in some Ben and Jerry's tonight.  Tomorrow I am on a sugar detox!!!

Here's a 'what would you do' question for everybody:
Sunday I am scheduled to swim and run.  All of my swimming will be done in open water at a natural fed spring called Blue Lake--check it out if you're curious! (http://www.utahdiving.com/bluelake.htm  Anyhow, we are experiencing an unusual cold snap and the high for Sunday will be 22 degrees.  Do I A:  Cowgirl up and go, doing both my swim and run out there (I'll have a friend with me)  I do have a wetsuit, am a little concerned about the transition from the water back into the cold air and having to change into running stuff and still have wet hair, etc.  OR...B. Do my run at home and do and upper body strength workout instead.  Advice?

Thunderstorms and tornado watches here this morning too.  I didn't even realize things were so bad out until I heard the sirens going off.  Luckily most of it was south of us so we only got rain today - lots of wind last night though.  I went out to the grocery store after the worst of the rain went through and couldn't believe how warm it was!  Right now we're at 66*F.  So of course I had to take advantage of that and went out for a short run - in shorts and a T-shirt, on Dec 31!  Temps will be dropping to about 30* tonight though.  Really crazy weather this winter.

My daughter just headed out to go play ultimate frisbee with a bunch of friends over at the HS.  I expect that she'll come home covered head to toe with mud (like last time they did this).

Iceman (makes me think “Top Gun”Smile) – Could I get you to talk to my son?  At 20 he of course, thinks he’s invincible.  When we found out he had starting smoking he told us he would quit.  Turns out he didn’t – he’s away at school most of the time so it’s hard for us to know.  He knows we don’t approve and keeps saying he’ll quit but we have our doubts.  His attitude is “it won’t happen to me”.

n3dinc – congrats on signing up!  I started with the “what have I done?” about 10 weeks before my first tri.  But by race day I was more than ready and you will be too.

Shawn – we were at the same race in Carlyle.  I actually did wear earplugs that day because I’d heard that cold water could cause dizziness.  Seemed to help me – I may have been slow getting out of the water, but no dizziness.

Zee744 and corncub – hope you’re feeling better soon.

Well, you would think that having almost 2 weeks off work would leave me plenty of time for training, right?  Wrong!  I haven’t been able to get in nearly the workouts that I had planned, but at least I’m getting something in.  DH and I spent all day yesterday buying a new car (new to us anyway).  Such a long, drawn-out process.  I did manage to get in a short run and some strength training last night.  And now that the car issue is settled, I can get back to getting in some good workouts.  I’ve got a tempo run scheduled for tonight (6-7 miles total) – probably be on the TM since it’s cold and rainy here today.

Janet

Are yu going to do Carlyle in 2011?  I think I'm going to sign up before the end of the year.  I saw that If you sign up before December 31, 2010 it will cost $65.00.  Better than last year prices.

I would love to do it again this year, but I probably won't be able to.  Between the race fee/wetsuit rental/overnight hotel cost/etc., I'm not sure we can afford it this year.  I think I'll be sticking with local races, but it's definitely going to be on my schedule for 2012.

You are always welcome to stay at our house.  I know about the cost of training and travelling to tri's.

My wife and I will be doing that race this year.  My wife has just started her training for the Gateway Triathlon.  This will be her first tri ....EVER.  She was a runner a few years ago but between kids and her job (college prof.) and taking care of me Laughing she has slacked off.  She is smoke free and ready to train this year.

If you want to do the race you and your family are welcome at our house.  Just let me know.

Is anybody thinking about doing the HIM in Muncie Indiana July 9th ?  I'am thinking about doing this race but have almost talked myself out of this race.  I want to make sure that I'm ready....and as of now....I'M NOT.  My second and third race of choice would be Agusta,GA or Austin, TX.  These last two races are towards the fall and give me more time to train.

Any Imput on any of these races?
