I have a question for those that have done an afternoon start. What do you differently for nutrition? eat breakfast, than again an hour or so prior to race? Any thoughts/recommendations. It sure will be nice to sleep in (well at least not get up at 4am!) In my opinion, the late start is horrible. It feels like you are waiting around all day waiting for the race to start. I'd rather wake, do what I need to do, and race. I'll be to jazzed up to sleep in. I'll probably eat a bagel or two and some coffee like I do any other race morning. Sip a sport drink during the hour or so prior to starting with maybe a shot or two of gel just prior to starting. |

I'll have a normal, or slightly larger than normal breakfast, then bring a PB&J to eat while setting up transition. I also brought water with me to drink before starting the swim. There is some time hanging around so having something to eat and drink was good for me. |

I was planning on wearing mine but if the water will around 60 than I might not because they are kind of a pain to take back off IMO. Now nutrition. That is a tough one there but for me since I used to run Race to Robie Creek in Boise (starts at noon) I would eat my breakfast around 9 in the morning followed up with like a goo at about 11. Sipping water/gatorade during the whole time. But for this race I will probably do my normal routine of eating a regular breakfast: whole wheat bagel, 2 eggs, one banana. Than about 11 I will have a powerbar performance energy. I'll continue to sip water/hammer heed up till about 15 minutes before the race. Bike I am using perpetuem mixed with 24oz water, 24oz water, and I haven't decided if I am going to place another one of my water bottles on the bike or just grab one on the course. I am up in the air on that because why carry the extra water early on in the race when I can grab a bottle later on? I have a bento box as well that I will put another powerbar performance energy plus a bag of powerbar energy blasts. I also have endurolytes that I'll take 3 every hour on the bike. For the run, I'll have a couple of powerbar gels that I'll grab from my run bag. Grab fluids as I go on the course. I think that they said there was aid stations every mile? If so I will plan on walking through every 4th one as I can't take in a bunch of liquid while running or I cramp really bad. Anyways that's my plan or at least how I think I am going about it. It really is my first race ever where I have to actually think about nutrition and it seems that my stomach doesn't like to have a bunch of food or liquid in it. So far what I have described above is what has worked for me so far. Post race nutrition: Milk Beer Pizza More Beer More Beer |

I'm not. The water could be close to 60 and the drag they can create isn't worth it at that temp. If it was in the upper 40's or low 50's I'd consider it. |

Member 87 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Afternoon, all. Just wanted to report that the run course as it appears online looks to be the correct one -- not the one in the Athlete's Guide. The greenbelt west of Capitol Boulevard is under construction, so the course will instead run further east into Warm Springs Golf Course to a turnaround. |

If it was in the upper 40's or low 50's I'd consider it. Depends on what your goals are for the day. If you are shooting to just finish, be as comfortable as possible, and just enjoy the event, I'd probably wear them. If you have a time goal you are trying to break and you are going to be pushing it through the event I would not wear them. The biggest problem I have with them is running through a fairly long T1 with them on and I would not want to take the time to take them off. I have a pair of Orca's and even though you tuck them under your wetsuit leg they still will fill with water. Like a wetsuit they are designed to allow water in which heats up and insulates. I also do not kick as efficiently with them on. Lastly, you will need to stuff them in your T1 bag. One more thing to have to deal with. With water temps at 60, give or take a few degrees, I'll tough it out and keep things simple. |

Expert 932 Chandler, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I've got the Blue Seventy booties and didn't find them to cause much drag at all...They're actually really nice to run in and I was considering wearing them just for the long run into T1 alone. Dang it...The "drag" seed has been planted. I'm gonna have to do so time trials in the pool to see if they'll actually slow me down. |

How do you handle that final pump of the tires prior to race time? I'll be checking my bike in on Friday. They had a great bunch of bike mechanics there who would top off the air. There was a pretty long line of people utilizing them so allow extra time. I had a problem with a leaky valve extender and they just took the tube out, put a new extender on, filled with air and had me on my way in about two minutes. I was impressed. Umm well she will or one of the kids gets the pleasure of hauling it around till they get back to t2 .

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Weather is a crapshoot. In 2009, it was very hot and sunny the day before the race. Race morning was calm. Race afternoon torrential rains, wind, and cold air. Many people DNF'd off the bike due to hypothermia. |

I'm voting for sunny and 70's with no wind and a light sprinkle starting at about 4pm. |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I need some serious "not broken" vibes. My ankle/heel has been hurting for 1.5 weeks and no amount of resting/NSAIDs is making it significantly better. Finally broke down and went to an Ortho today and he sent me straight off for an MRI to rule out a stress fracture of my heel bone. Bright side: that's a huge/thick bone and I'd imagine it would be really hard to stress fracture Not-so-bright side: I have a stupid high pain tolerance and have run 10 miles on a broken foot w/out realizing it was broken. And your heel bone takes an eternity to heal. UGH. I get the report direct from the radiologist at 2 PM tomorrow. Hopefully its not broken. If it is, my race will become an AquaBike. |

I fractured my heel bone in Thailand once... It isn't a fun injury if you did. Mine was a stupid drunk incident involving an Aussie, an RC car and 2 fifths of thai whiskey... |
