Report to follow. Cost justification = roughly equal to a new pair of running shoes.

Looking forward to the report for sure.

@Mitch, just hoping to build a decent base in case I recover from my Injury to still try to do an Ironman in the next couple of months (before the NYC Marathon in Nov). However, today I rode 44 miles w/ good climbs (4500ft) on my tribike and my legs where not there and really had to push it to make it back.

First OWS this year. 56F in the lake with 1' wave is not 80f in a pool. It killed me. I have a lot of work to do to get back into swim shape.

On saturday after the 2 hour trainer ride, the entire family went to the local strawberry farm and picked 43 pounds of strawberries. That meant the rest of Saturday was spent cleaning and freezing a lot of the berries while also making 10 quarts of jam (YUMMY!). The end result was my old body was tired and sore Sunday morning. That's good because I had to spend the day opening my father-in-laws swimming pool. Lots of lifting, pulling and scrubbing.

I got around to riding after dinner (45 minutes pulling my 4 year old in the Wee Hoo). I planned to get my 12 year old out for a run, but she had a friend over and I had a bottle of bourbon that was beckoning me to sit outside by the fire and have a drink or two. I feel a bit guilty, but not too much!

I hope to find time today for an easy run or recovery ride.

2 weeks ago my neighbour Greg came back from IM Cairns where he took part in a team supporting a girl who at the age of 31 was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and was given only 2 years to live. Her last wish was to complete an Ironman and after months of preparations the supporting team fulfilled her dream. The story was shown here on channel 7. A truly inspiring story.

Adding in another 4 days of workouts. Friday I ran 7 miles and biked 11. On Saturday I did an 8-mile trail run with a friend. There was a rattlesnake (which was rattling, no less), and about 1700 feet of elevation gain in 4 miles. But it was good. On Sunday I ran 5, and today about 4.7. Tonight's run also involved a mountain lion. !!! There was a run last week that involved a coyote. And actually, Sunday's run involved a bird that was threatening to attack, presumably in defense of a nearby nest. I know that bird--it used to have a nest about a mile and a half north and I was glad to not have to dodge it in that area, only to discover it had moved. Anyhow, we basically jumped over Saturday's rattlesnake, mostly because I didn't see it and had no idea it was there until I heard it rattling, which was pretty much in mid-stride. Stopping wasn't an option by then. Tonight, I went out for a late run (left at 10 pm) and on my way back 45 minutes later there was a police officer. I asked if there was anything I should know and he said a mountain lion had been spotted on that street, right by the gas station I'd just passed. Apparently they'd had several sightings this week. Fabulous. Mountain lions usually stay in the mountains, so this is exceptionally rare. And scary--I live in suburban Denver, not the foothills! Anyhow, I turned on my flashlight again in hopes that bright lights scare mountain lions (ha!) and stuck to the street rather than the trail in the open space along the canal, and took a very good look at my backyard before running up the steps inside. (Our yard backs to the canal and open space, and it would take no effort for a mountain lion to jump our little 3-foot fence.)

Congrats to the new triathletes and Jackie on a fabulous win!

Still haven't decided what I'm going to do about a triathlon this August. If I register for a new one, I'm going to pick a sprint instead of an olympic. I'm starting a new part-time job tomorrow and that's probably enough to juggle. There's also a duathlon option for one of the sprints I'm considering, with the awesome option to pick either bike/run/bike or run/bike/run. If I do that option, I'd pick the run/bike run, since that's where my speed is.

Jim, for me the inspirational part was that few people decided to help her and spent months training, rehearsing and paid a lot of $ to help her go through the finish line. Kind of restores your faith in humanity.
Yeah, this illness is horrible.

@Lisa

I have a few dogs that I have to contend with on a couple of my running routes, HUGE carp in my OWS area, and Rednecks in pickups on my bike routes. But I am happy to say I don't have to deal with mountain lions and rattle snakes. Be careful out there, do you carry pepper spray on you runs?
