Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? I missed you! I think you were one of the only people who agreed with me that fishball noodles could be a great pre-race meal! Welcome back! I'm still in Vietnam and still eating noodles.... I hear you about how demotivating getting sick is. I got the flu two days before my second HIM (Vietnam in 2015). Did the race anyway, but nowhere near what I was capable of, and came very close to quitting the sport in frustration over my crappy luck. (It was far from the first time I'd gotten sick before a big race.) Ended up getting a coach who has at least partly helped me figure out my issues with overtraining and taper (and.....ugh....the bike) and ended up qualifying for 70.3 Worlds last year. Set a goal ("maintenance" isn't that motivating!) and take it step by step.....it'll come back! |

Champion 7553 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Welcome back Max! I've been away for quite a while, but started this morning on the long path towards active. Now in Albuquerque. I ran my slowest 5K ever (of course, that was my first run in over 6 months). |

Expert 1187 Ontario | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Returning to the site over the past few weeks, after a LOOOOONG absence. The forums do seem kinda barren, they used to be so active. (I was here mostly 2006 - 2011)After an injury and a family crisis I lost interest in not just BT but triathlon in general. I tried to keep up with running but had a string of injuries and haven't done much of anything the past couple years.Recently started a couch to 5k program in one last attempt to become a runner once again. So far so good. It's kinda sad to be starting over at zero when I used to do 5 mile runs after working a 12 hour day.I wasn't too active when i was on the site years ago but I see a lot of familiar names in this thread. I'm glad to see the site still around and plan to use the logs again. |

I am so much slower it is very frustrating but I'm so thankful to be running regularly again without pain. The logs keep me coming back here every day. |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Hello, BT: When I stated that I left for personal issues (back in 2015, I believe), it was because Her Yantiness passed me on the post padding. I went into a deep emotional abyss. I think I'm finally recovering. Life hasn't been the same. Then BirkieRunner shaved his mustache, since Elitists do that, donchaknow. It turned me off and I had to get away. Then when Kido proclaimed Crossfit was his new love, it tore me apart. A person can only take so many punches to the gut. *disclaimer: all statements are not true, except for the greeting and first sentence.

I haven't made it to day 2 in a while, so you're doing better than me. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? Max, come back. There's a 5k in your neck of the woods that I need to run with you. Originally posted by max I'd been a regular here, starting back around March 2004. I haven't been on the site for probably the better part of 6 years when I moved to Arizona. I went through a number of medical issues a few years ago but have come out on the healthy side of my surgery. I have given up doing triathlons, with my last one probably as part of a team at the NH Timberman. I've sold my tri bike. I recently moved back to MA to be near the grandkids and am back to my old past time of hiking and mixing in some (mostly off road) running. I've made the lottery for the road race up Mt Washington in NH in mid June. As I approach my 69th birthday this summer, I can tell I have slowed down, but still am staying active. I have no idea what brought me back here after a long absence...just a flight of fancy I guess. I'm sure the site has changed a lot since I was last here, and I'm not sure how much I will post (if anything) but hello anyways to some of the regulars who might remember me. |

My hips are bad enough that doing triathlons are not feasible any longer but I am trying to stay active. I've gone through a very traumatic divorce and come out on the other side with a better look at life. My friends are still with me and keep me on an even keel. I have my hash group friends that allow me to cut loose and be wild. |

Champion 7595 Columbia, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Where did all the BTers go? I recently returned after being gone for a while. I left a few years ago because life dictated that something must go, and spending time online was it. (I have more time these days.) I can't say I was sad to leave, though, because I was getting fed up with the 'musings' of coach wannabes who've read a book or two, or spent 48 hours in some bogus USAT 'training' session. Sorry if that's rude. It's the truth. I'm not pointing to anybody in particular. Even if I could remember who those people were, they are probably gone. I came back because while I've been keeping somewhat fit over the years, I haven't been really 'training', but now, I'm finally in a position to follow some sort of plan, and I find the logs here convenient to use. I've also posted a few times in the forums since returning, mostly about running because I happen to know something about running. I've even been to a few coach 'training' sessions. ;-) (No, I do not consider myself a run coach and would not agree to coach anybody, although I do actually hold some certifications.) Anyway, the forums are definitely much much slower than they were when I left. I will give it a go and post a bit and see what happens. On a topic earlier in this thread, I also ran several mentor groups in the past. While I posted a great deal in those groups, I also posted quite a lot in the main forum, as did several members of my groups. I sometimes even encouraged them to pose their questions in both places. I do think that the beginners in my groups learned a lot, and more important were made to feel more comfortable pursuing triathlon as a result. It is possible that mentor groups contributed to the decline of the main forums -- I certainly don't know -- but in my case at least I don't think that mentor groups contributed to my growing lack of enthusiasm for the forums. It was the other stuff. Edited by Experior 2018-08-07 8:03 PM |
