FYI - the Honey Badger taper project is almost complete I've spent most of the morning putting the finishing touches on so check here later tonight or tomorrow for the big reveal!

Looking forward to it. Going taper crazy and can't get off this darn site!

If one were to want to ride part of the course what part would you ride?  I'm assuming the part up in Hayden to get a feel for the hills, but any part in particular?

Also anyone know when TBT plans to have bikes ready for pickup in CdA?

I thought I read Thurs 1-5pm, and obviously Friday hours most of the day

TriRSquared - 2011-06-18 3:44 PM How "mandatory" is the "mandatory athlete meeting" after the dinner on Friday night?

In the past I have seen people walk out of the "room, tent" when the dinner and "cool" stuff is done when the meeting is getting ready to start.

They don't take a head count. It's basically a safety meeting and going over everything that is covered in the Athlete Guide. Definately not very interesting for your family.

Last year it seems WTC (IMFL and others I heard) went with video going over rules that is generic and not specific to certain races. Then after the video they do short talks by each swim, bike and run directors.

Enjoy tapering everyone!

In response to TriRsquared query about section to pre-ride:

Definitely the Hayden/hilly part. It isn't just the hills, it's the turns and adjustments you want to be prepared for: there are (at least) two turns that stand out in my mind and I was glad I had pre-ridden.

One is on the road around Hayden lake (?) tight ~120 degree right turn in a downhill stretch. There are warning signs/paint and you better believe them.  The second is past Hayden lake 90 degree left turn at the bottom of a hill that could easily be overcooked.

I will pre-ride the course on Thursday afternoon once I get in town. I just need to familiarize myself with the terrain again.

Bernd

Same here.   I wasn't sure my mom or wife would be able to figure out how to get the splits via the IM site on their phones....this makes it mom/wife proof.  :D

Whew! Glad I took my bike into the shop today for a once-over.  It's only a few weeks old and I wanted to make sure everything is tight and in the proper order.  I had been having a bit of a problem with the rear wheel aligning properly and the brake rubbing.  Turns out there was a loose screw in the brake (it's an integrated rear brake that I haven't yet tried to adjust) and a loose locking ring on the wheel.  No doubt that would have caused me problems on race day.  Now I can cross that worry off my list.

Absolutely adored the HB/IM video. Very creative!

I am having difficulty trying to explain this HBDC phenomena to others. It is like the "in-joke" that nobody gets or that I am not explaining properly.

I was at a different dinner last year, and left early to go to the "mandatory" athlete meeting. 10 minutes before it was supposed to start it was already over and people were leaving. That sort-of miffed me, but it didn't sound like there was anything huge covered that I missed. Still, if you publish a time for a meeting, please stick to that time, duh!

And last year I was able to retrieve my SN bags w/o any problems the next morning. I will plan on getting them back again but also will pack stuff that I can live without should they not end up back in my possession.

I watched a few IMCDA videos and liked this one as one of the better 2010 ones that gives you a true feel for the WHOLE experience. Well done. Its 7:30 minutes but worth it.

#2041 I will be one of the 497 guys chasing Slayer around the course. Still choosing my profession though: HB therapist or HB wrestler.

Nobody chases the Slayer, Bernd. The Slayer chases you. I give you all a good head start during the swim and see what I can do after that to slay you. Most likely, if you are a HB wrestler, you stand a better chance at survival.

Really looking forward to the meet up swims and I will shoot for the Friday pre-athete-dinner too. I wish we could hit Capones due to their awesome beer list but they seem really busy when I called the other day. A group as big as us may have to let the folks know in advance we are coming to have drinks so there is some space. HBDC

So I am the opposite... Not trying to belittle myself here AT ALL, just stating my reality: I swim fast and my riding isn't quite as strong as my swimming. As a result, lots of people will get a chance to see me on the bike as they zoom by! Give a shout-out hello!!! Green Scott Plasma bike, my number/name should be visible from my back side!! Getting passed by so many cyclists used to be a real mental mind-#&$ for me, but I've now embraced it and would just love to say hi to peeps (encouragement is always welcome too)!!!

I am right there with you on that one. I a usually one of the first ones out of the water....and then I just wait for the wave of riders that come flying by me. No big deal though...I just stick to my plan...and they can just do what they do

With 178 pages of discussion - sorry if this is redundant. However, for right now, both weather.com and accuweather.com have the forecast at 73 and sunny and 76 and sunny, respectively. That is what I'm talkin' about!

Hope everyone is getting ready. I've looked at the forecast 25 times, made my list of race stuff 25 times, went and bought Chris McCormacks new book yesterday....really getting ready for this one!

I'm looking for some suggestions.  I did an OWS in a cold Long Island Sound last Sunday and picked up a sinus infection.  My last workout was a 14 mile run on Monday.  I have been way too sick to do any more workouts since then so I've had to take 5 days off.  I've been on meds and am starting to get better.  I think I'll be 90% on Monday or Tuesday but don't know what I should do for workouts so close to the race.  Has anyone been in this situation before?  I don't think I should go the distances I had originally planed for this weekend.
