SSMinnow - 2010-06-02 5:43 AM Is it really Wednesday???? Then it must be "TELL US ABOUT YOUR RACE" day....so who's doing what?

For the rest of us, lay out your best tip on hill climbing?  There has been so much about biking lately, from Tony's kids to Kyla's super stud ride.....so talk to us!

First tri this season on Saturday with an OWS.  I like OWS better than a pool swim, wow, I can't believe I can say that!  Hill climbing:  don't blow up...and don't fall off bike : )

hey barry.  we can follow macca's workouts here at jordan hare the day before the lsu game.  and usc is off that weekend, they'll need a break after starting off 0-7,  so maybe linda can join us and get a first hand look at how a real conference plays.  or maybe she'll go to the duke / va tech game over in durham with tony.  you know, for that big acc powerhouse matchup.  oh wait, only acc powerhouses are in womens lacrosse.  ha!

Hill Climbing: Get better cassette. Start singing, "I Think I can I think I can" like the Little Engine that Could.   Or hell..slap on a motor on your bike and start it up every time you go on a hill to give you a a push. :-)

Hey Girl - everytime I jump on its like putting a motor on my bike!    Mostly because I make car noises when I ride

Are those car noises coming from the back end

Lots of races this weekend! Good luck Rob, Glen, Doug, Kyla, Tracy, George's wife, Jeff, and 2/3 of the Lindas! Did I miss anyone?

I'm running RnR San Diego with my cousin and her husband and thousands upon thousands of other people! My goal is to pace it smart for a strong finish. I'm going to run with a pace group, but I WILL ditch them (or let them ditch me) if they go out too fast. And, as always, I will love every mile I get to run in California!

No races this weekend but I may be doing a 5k next Tues.

As far as hill climbing - carefully read the course description of any race you are deciding to do.  If it looks hilly, don't do it!  Just kidding - I actually learned at my last race to shift the big (front) gear down before shifting all the way down on the backs gears.  I used to shift all the way down on both sides then drop the big gear.  Didn't leave me much momentum.  It was much easier to shift half way and still have gears in the back to work with.  I may not be explaining it right but that's nothing new.

Side note:  I'm also a little brain drained.  I just got back from chaperoning my first K field trip w/ my son's class in the hot sun and going 2 hrs. past their (and my) lunch time.  No snacks allowed.  And our bus broke down!

I have an Olympic on Sunday "Tri for Real" at Rancho Seco.  Weather is expected to be hot which should be good practice for Vineman HIM in July.  My goal is to go as fast as I can, no holding back, including transitions!  We'll see how that goes...

I was hoping to buy a new tri top by this race, but it looks like I'll be in that same Sugoi top unless I find something down the street at my LRS.

Good luck to everyone racing, wow there are a lot of us!
Safe travels, Julia, and good luck at RnR!

Holy Crazy!  I take a 1/2 day of vacation to do a little S & B and the group is on fire!

Very excited to see so many people racing this weekend.  Tis the season I guess.  I borrowed this, added to it and second the motion!!!! Good luck TWIN, Rob, Glen, Doug, Kyla, Tracy, George's wife, Jeff, and 2/3 of the Lindas! We want lots of details post race and quickly please.

As the lightest member of our group by a hair (Twins very close), I have a couple of hill tricks.  First as I am approaching the point where being in the big chain ring is getting a little tough, I gear up two before dropping to the smaller ring.  That keeps my momentum in tact.  Second, I sit back as far as I can on the seat so my weight is over the cranks.  This made a huge difference for me last year and continues to prove out in my rides this year.  Third, I stopped shallow breathing in favor of more deep breathes...gives me better control. Finally, I spin all the way over the hill and crank more on the other side.....living where I do, I would die without these tricks!

Ok, I am pulling an Andy today.....next post.

Today was my first day riding the IM course this season.  The course is basically a lollipop, a stick and a double loop gets you 112m.  Today was the double loop which is the kick A$$ part of the course, lots of hills, turns et al.  I started the morning with my OWS class, followed by the bike...had to pull a Kyla and take care of business before getting on my bike. With no bathrooms open yet, what's a girl to do? Didn't pull a Twin .  Biked the first loop and decided to do the reverse for the second...it is harder and I thought what the heck.....overall the whole th ing went really well.  Little light on nutrition, but the legs felt reasonable.  No brick run so I was a happy camper!  Today was the first day, I was actually able to see the strength I have gained over the course of one year. Hills that were really hard last year, were the same hills I was able to spin up this year....pretty psyched with the progress.  Plenty of work to do yet, but three months to do it!

The only thing I am still having issues with is sustaining an average Z3 Watts...my HR data says I spent 3 hours in Z3, but my power data has me spending 2 hours in Z3 and way too much time in Z1 which totally crushed my average....argh!
