I know at least one of us (SAM!) is really excited for the weekend to get here!!!! If you're racing, spill the details!

If you're not racing, tell us the mental strategy you use to get through those really long or grueling workouts.

What long and grueling workouts? :-P  Most of the time I just do them, then afterwards kick myself for not pushing harder. Nowadays, I'm just enjoying the process of doing the workouts. I'm not an AG'er, or seeking to break any records. Just gaining fitness and for the fun of it.

Wanted to wish best of luck to the racers this weekend and volunteers this weekend. :-)

Me on the other hand have been slightly slacking this week, and most likely will be next week due to all the final projects that I need to hand in. They're taking WAY too much time, and more time than I have.  All computer projects and some drawing projects (Interesting enough, my drawings will be Triathlon based!).

I was really sore on Monday, so took the day off. Still sore on Tuesday - in fact, my left hip was hurting, so I couldn't even cycle easy. (I suspect that due to the hike and falling on my hips a couple times made them sore...).  Yesterday I was just so exhausted, and skipped my workout.

Hope everyone is having a good St. Paddy's day, and have a great weekend!!

Dan do you have access to potassium iodide pills?

I didn't realize you could tie your running shoes if you have various issues with your sneakers. This link suggest some ways to tie your shoes, like if you get black toes (like me).

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-267--12334-0,00.html

Thanks for the replies on the injury.  Hopefully the treatment will work.

Suzy, the doc put 2 steroid injections before they put the cast on.  I have to go in next week to take off the cast next week and receive another shot and then keep the cast on for another 2 wks.  They're hoping that since the foot is completely immobilized and the injections will speed-up the healing.  Hopefully it works.  I miss the workouts.  Also I'm still going to the PT so hopefully he will keep me/my gait balanced.

Tuffli-  my plans haven't solidified yet but should by the weekend.  I think I'll be in Singapore the week of the 28th.  Hopefully we can grab a drink.  I'll PM you when my plans firm-up.  Any suggestions on hotels?  I've stayed at the Pan Pacific and the Marina Mandarin, both are really nice but a little pricey.

My Irish Dancers.....

Dineen: How old are your daughters?  Do you have any video???? I thought for sure based on your hairstyle that their hair was 100% natural!

Birdy: SO CUTE...thanks for stopping by.  Feels like it's been months.

Since tomorrow is Friday, I will wish all of our racers the best of luck.  You have all worked so hard.  Stay tough from beginning to end and enjoy the entire experience!  As always report back quickly!

First HIM this Sunday!!!!

I'm as ready as I'll ever be.  I'm still trying to get me arms around pacing & timing strategy.  I really won't know how my legs will feel by the time I start my run come race day... I may be reaching with a 2:05 run split...

Good luck to all the other racers!!!

Have fun and good luck.

Any suggestions on hotels?  I've stayed at the Pan Pacific and the Marina Mandarin, both are really nice but a little pricey.

It depends on where you want to be located and who's paying the bill .  I assume you need/want to stay within the CBD based on the two hotels you mentioned.  So, I'd also recommend The Fullerton or Swissotel The Stamford.  Both are great hotels in nice locations... although pricey.  But hey, you're in SG, nothing is cheap here!!! (except hawker food!)

If location isn't a huge factor, Shangri-La, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, or Hilton are nice choices.  You may get more favorable rates here..

Maybe.  My brother-in-law, who lives next door, is a doc.   I'll check with him.  Right now the winter winds are with me blowing strongly from the north.

Thanks for the update, Dan. Good to hear how things are going. I was talking with a friend yesterday who is a physicist (nuclear physicist, perhaps?!) who, before he was retired, specialized in disaster preparedness and reaction. His take on the nuclear situation is that it should be no worse than Three Mile Island which did not product any uptick in cancer over the last 20(ish?) years. He was talking way over my head eventually, but it was reassuring to hear him talk. Not so sure I'd still feel reassured if I were anywhere near there, however.

Funny story re: earthquakes and alcohol. In '89 I lived in the Bay Area and was at my bf's house in Sunnyvale when the Loma Prieta earthquake struck. (I was waiting for him to come home from work so we could watch the World Series -- Giants and A's!) At his house there was not any major damage, and he lived with 3 other 20- and 30-something guys. I kid you not, the biggest concern was how we were going to keep the beer cold. We set up a party in the front yard, blasting tunes from the car stereo, and just drank the night away. I was living at home at the time and was happy to have a "pass" to stay at bf's house as he insisted it wasn't safe to drive. Ha! I lived 2 miles away and the roads were fine, but it was a good excuse. Poor Dave was living in the Marina (fires) and had a nasty commute home that night...

Thanks Kyla.  Your physicist friend's view matches up with the more conservative perspectives that I've read and those are the ones that I prefer.

Re: earthquakes and alcohol.  Great story.   Sounds like something I would have done when I was younger.

I think that sounds like a good deal.  I think I paid $350 for my wired 2.4 on the exact same rim, etc.

(Sometimes wish mine was wireless so I could move between TT and Road bikes but in reality probably won't wouldn't do it that often because I have found that it requires a cable adjustment with every move due to very minor cassette differences....would be cleaner on the bike though!

Bacon? BACON?? Most intereting form of complex carbs I've heard of. (I'm loading up on coffee, too!)

You are not screwed. My legs are feeling the love from yesterday's ride. Maybe you and I can do our own little marathon while SpeedyLegs Ryan and Julia do an ultra in the same time!! See ya soon!!

there's not enough info here to tell if this is a good deal or not.  if it has a 12mm alloy axle then its not a good deal.  just ask the person what model.  if it the pro+, most likely is 12mm.    the biggest change saris made last year was adding a 15mm axle to all lines, i believe.  edit. it appears they did not change the size of the pro+ axle.  either way, guys your (my) size don't need to be on it.

and you don't need to train with power to understand this  ;-)

another option doug is rei.  annual sale started today.  you can pick up a new wired for 550 - any annual dividend.  in my case it would be 480.   i know it a bit more expensive than you can find used but just thought i'd toss it out.  and it has the lifetime warranty through rei.  it a no questions asked policy... i've "tested" it.. ha!

We waaaaay broke 2 hours for 13.56 miles! WOOT! Well, not WOOT as I did not plan to run very fast. Never do plan it, but always seem to do it when Ryan and Steve are involved. I think it's Ryan's fault. He just saunters along not breathing hard at all, so you just can't help but try to keep up!!

Awesome to see Julia again! Jealous of the Knoxville crew!

One to two more workouts and then I get to rest. I can't get over how much I love rest days during IM training. They feel so earned and deserved and, well, I just love 'em. Nuff said.

Happy racing, peeps! Looking forward to lots of great reports!!

No workout today for me.  I had planned a shortish swim, but I went to the eye doctor for an eye exam, he dilated my eyes, and I've had the worst headache since I left there at noon.  I found out I have occular migraines, which explains a lot.  And because of my attachment to laptops (mostly due to school) and reading, I am near sighted, and will be getting glasses next week.  Yessss, it has just been one of THOSE kinds of weeks, I guess.

Congrats on the awesome run though!  Pretty cool!

While it's true that Ryan looked like he could have kept running until Sunday, I have to point out that Kyla is the one who made us sprint the last mile. Wink Another great run with great company! Thanks Kyla, Steve, and Ryan for taking such good care of me this week!

Yep, it was definitely Kyla's fault... she got this crazy look in her eye and dropped the hammer.

Julia, I really enjoyed meeting you!  You're welcome to join us whenever you're in town.  Hopefully next time the trail run up at Cougar won't be so sloshy and wet.  The first time, you're the guest, but the second time, you'll get added to the beer duty rotation.

On another note, I'm especially pleased because Kyla did say that I have an open invitation to refuel at her house, since I run past her place on some of my runs.  Hopefully she'd be home, because otherwise that could get awkward, especially if I run into her husband: "Um, who are you and what are you doing in my kitchen?"  "I'm Ryan, I work out with your wife.  Where do you keep the peanut butter?"
