Am I forgetting anything, lol.  Tongue out

Yup, unless it is there in the bag and I don't see it.

Your target time of 12:30 finish puts you right on the bubble for daylight and you might want to bring some reflective tape or a few glow sticks. If you are really cool, there are companies that make blinkies that fit on your race belt which I don't see there either.  Race Belt helps unless you are going to switch shirts in T2 in which case, you get two numbers and can just pin them on.

They will hand out glow wands about the same time they wheel out the kettles of hot broth but they are not the same as having your own illumination. It can get pretty lonely out there in the dark and having something bright really helps. Sort of like your own campfire to keep the snipes from nibbling on your heels.

My racebelt is currently MIA...but I'm still searching.  No biggie to pick up a new one later today.  Hadn't thought of lights or reflection though...I'll throw something in my SN's bag.  Thanks!

If I remember correctly they require everyone have 2 pieces of reflective tape front and back regardless of when you finish. Around 8 or 8:30 they start handing glow sticks out.

Y'all probably saw this article from LAVA today but its killa and very helpful in its simplicity:

Hey peeps--guess who is rolling into CdA tonight!! I'll give everyone the low down once I'm in! Plan to feel out the water tomorrow as well, so I'll update.

Okay, goal times--of course, PR is always nice, but this is definitely more challenge than IMAZ, so if I put something out there, I'd say sub-12 for me.  Feeling comfortable in all 3 legs of the race, but if I PR anything, I think it'll be the run (given I'm smart on the bike).

A tip my coach mentioned for the bike given a cold swim (which we are going to have): even if you don't think the air warrants toe warmers, your feet will be COLD coming out of that water--once you get riding, the cool air will keep them cold, toe warmers can block that wind and help warm up your feet, you warm up your feet, and your body will feel much better.

Thanks for the tip.  I just put them in my bag!

I just mapped out the run course:

http://goo.gl/maps/Eh4J

The house I'm staying at is almost on top of the course (roughly 11th Street and Mountain Ave).  I should have a pretty good sized cheering section out there as we all go by.

Travel safe, everyone!

Sorry, as I work on my packing and organization lists, I keep running into IM newbie questions. Today, I'm wondering what you can put on your bike race morning. I understand helmet and shoes have to go in the gear bag. I sssume it's ok to put on your food on the bike although I wonder about the squirrels then as well since you're not supposed to food on the night before for that reason. Anything else that can or can't got on the bike prior to the swim?ThanksBrad

I brought my bike in for a final tuneup last week and have been too sick to ride since.  Today I went to get my rental wheels at a different bike shop and told me that a 9 speed chain was put on my 10 speed bike.  Went back to the original bike shop and they are out of 10 speed chains.  I should mention that I didn't ask to have the chain replaced in the first place.  I went to a third bike shop to get my chain replaced again.  I'm finally feeling better so I'll ride it today before I box it tonight to fly tomorrow.  I hope nothing else goes wrong with it but I already am thinking the front derailer is screwed up.  Between the sinus infection and my bike, I'm getting a little nervous at this point.

Race morning I go to my bike
- Inflate tubes
- Cover disk cover valve hole with cool sticker of choice
- Put two bottles of infinit in bottle racks
- Put computer on to mount
- Turn computer on
- Make sure bike is in proper gear

Then I walk away and come back at least 6 times to make sure I did everything.

If I was going to mount food to bike I would do it that morning.  I wouldn't worry about the squirrels as there will be enough activity in transition to keep them away during the morning.

My bike shop did the old 9 speed chain on 10 speed bike.  I couldn't figure out why it wasn't shifting as nice as it used to and then I figured it out.  I was not very happy.

If you're nervous - bring it by Fitness Fanatics in Spokane Valley (about 25 minutes from CDA). They are absolutely awesome there.

jamesarr - 2011-06-21 11:03 AM Who else is staying at the Super 8 in CDA? I'm checking into the HB suite Thursday.

Two rooms booked at the Super 8. The conceriage told me I have the HB floor with private entry so the suite must be one floor down. I told them have beer cold and the band ready for the post race party Sunday Night. Laughing

Not that I know of. AZ, LP and CdA have not provided it in the past and since the swag is starting to get thin at these races, my guess is they won't start adding it now unless someone sponsors it somehow.

They do sell plenty of it at the expo though.

Another newb question:  if I turn my Garmin on before the race, is it draining the battery to be left like that?  I am planning to use my 305 on the bike and my husband's on the run, due to the short battery life.  It can sometimes be annoyingly slow to locate satellites, so it'd be great to already have it locked and loaded before I hop on the bike or take off on the run.

Oh and that's pretty exciting to have another famous pro at our race!

My Garmin 405 usually lasts about 8 hours without doing anything (with GPS off). But, in my opinion, I'd rather wait the 10-30 seconds for the satellites to be located instead of risk the battery being dead. I'm actually doing the same thing.

Why not do like I'm doing, strapping my garmin to the bike, then turning it on during the last few miles of the bike, and strap it on  my wrist before T2...that way it's all ready to go.

I use a Garmin Edge (705?) on the bike for distance and watts.  Turning it on before the swim is no problem since it just needs to last for the bike.  I use a Garmin FR60 for the whole day; time the swim, time the bike, distance and pace on the run, and overall time.

At one point I used a Garmin 210 for the run and turned it on in the changing tent.  It really didn't pick up satellites  correctly until about .10 mile into the run but for the other 26.1 miles it gave me current pace beautifully.  Doesn't matter how far it says I ran; No matter what I'm stopping at the finsh line
