Hum, I just learnt that on my first HIM they are allowing you to use MP3's during the run.  Not sure how I feel about that.
"MP3 PLAYERS / IPODS / PORTABLE MUSIC DEVICES: Music devices will be allowed for use on the run course portions of all of the Pacific Crest events. This applies only to Pacific Crest, but not to the other multisport events owned by AA Sports, Ltd."

Guess I got to go get someHammer  Heed products if I plan on living off the course.  Not sure I've done another course where Heed was the product of choice.  Oregon...always has to be different

No, my daughter is not getting married anytime in the near future! Yes the 1st communion was awesome.

A couple of bike questions:

1) has anyone ever had trouble with knee pain (behind the knee) after a bike ride?  I know the issue has to be with the fit but I haven't figured which direction I need to go.

2)  Am I the only one that feels like I am learning to ride a bike over again?  I am trying to bump my average cadence up to at least 90 RPM and this seems to be against my nature by a bunch.  I am sure with practice I will get better but has anyone else made a conscience decision to increase cadence and struggled?  I am balancing cadence and and my power goals.

I can't speak to the knee pain but if I was a betting girl I'd say cleat position.

As for cadence, I did make an effort to ride closer to 90 once I got my cadence monitor.  It did not help my speed any but saves my legs.  The biggest thing it did for me is teach me to not power through hills etc and to shift more for the conditions.  I now bike closer to 80 as it seems to be a good trade off between speed and how my legs feel.  I think it is a bit individual as to what the optimal cadence is.

Now...if I could just find my headphones I could go run.  I'm having my own issues.

Dan- I agree!  We definitely need like buttons on here!

Keri and Ken- Your daughter is definitely a little cutie!

Kim- My tri yesterday did not allow ipods or mp3 players of any kind.  I managed to get lost without one so I'm pretty sure I'd still be wandering around in the woods somewhere if I did have one Wink

Congrats! It sounds like you're officially hooked now. You should be very proud that you pushed through all those obstacles and made it to that finish line.

Emmanem - 2010-05-15 2:30 PM I am officially a triathlete!  Had the time of my life today!! It was definitely tough but it was just the best experience ever!  RR is up!

Everyone I've known struggles initially to hold high cadence, it's not in our nature.  Even today as my mind was drifting on my long ride my cadence dropped to low 80s and I felt it.  It just takes practice and listening to your legs to know when you're pedaling to slow. It'll also help you 'feel' the course and you'll make better gear choices because of it which will allow you to run faster

Keri and I are off to Taos, NM tomorrow AM.  Be back on Saturday for packet pickup for my first TRI.  Time to get wet!  Hopefully the vacation will allow me to think about other stuff and not stress about the race.  I will get a bit of running and a bit of swimming in and a short bike ride on Saturday.  Mostly a taper from hell though.

Hopefully we will come back to everyone training hard and healthy.  Good luck in advance to all those racing next weekend.

The RR is up. Feeling pretty good today. Calves feel good and not sore really anywhere else but the traps/shoulders. Had a fun race, eventfull but fun. I even pulled an Ev on the run. I have also come to the realization that the time I have been spending on the trainer has been way to pansy like. I need to push it better like I was last year.

Spent last night at the ER with the baby. She got in an ant bed and got bit about 20 times. She is pretty alergic so we rushed up there. Looks like we will be getting an Epy pin for her now. Once she got a few shots and an IV it was all good. But holding your kid down so they can IV them is never fun.

Oh how I miss Ski Apache. I have skiied there about 4 times and it was fun. Have a great time there. Dont act like 2 parents who are kidless for a week you dont want to be sore for the race.

Yum, chowing down on a bowl of oatmeal with banana, peanut butter, and jam mixed in.  The jam totally makes it.  It's the first time I've added jam in there.

Another day off work today, although this one is kind of forced.  And I had forgotten about it when I took Friday off to go hiking but I am going to do my best to enjoy the 4 day weekend anyways.  So where I went hiking they found 50 illegal immigrants coming across the border.  Yes, the exact same trail.  And a few weeks ago there was like 10 or so they got.  They caught a small number of them and a border patrol guard got bit during the whole thing.  Oh yeah, they have had quite a few bear encounters on that trail recently as well.  Previously I had hiked that trail by myself.  I am now forbidden from hiking down there by myself.

I love that Nicole thought this meant you puked... That was only 1 race (so far) missy!

I've also never gone off course on a run, yet Maybe that will be added to my list this year along with sighting off wrong buoy and missing a bike turn. As long as it's not at Clearwater I'll be alright with it.

That sucks about the ant bites, gald all is ok... Now get your butt on the trainer and stop listening to that pansy Metallica/Linkin Park stuff and blast some BT haha!

Bummer.  Get well.  Lots of rest.  I find it helps to be spoiled by your other half, even if they whine while doing it.

Eh...just taking up space for another 2 weeks around here at work. Wishing I could be out training or something productive.

Getting ready for the weigh-in tomorrow...not really sure what's going to happen with that. I've relegated myself to trying not to have expectations or get my hopes up because for me, hard work and a clean diet don't necessarily equate to any substantial weight loss.

Heading to the pool for a longer swim this afternoon then some weights and core this evening. Nothing too exciting on my end of things.
