Claire, it sounds like $400 is worth at least asking your hubby about. If that covers all those expenses, that means he could share the room and then just pay for his flight and his food right? Then again, this is coming from the dude who can't even do a 5K less than 1K from the house because his 9-Month Pregnant Wife gave him the death-stare when he asked her about it last night...

Nope, flights and hotel are not included in that $400. Aside from the money, it is so last minute for me and as a person that has up through 2009 planned out its hard for me to throw everything aside and just go for it.

Watch out for that death-stare, that is funny! So when is the due date? How exciting!

Aikidoman-  my name "shiggy" has a looooooooooooooong story behind it and has nothing to do with "getting shiggy with it".

GomesBolt - 2008-05-01 9:51 AM GARMIN 305 I loved mine until it just stopped picking up the satellites. It's pretty frustrating. I am getting ready too call Garmin about it to say WTFO? The cadence sensor has never worked because i think the distance is too great between my rear wheel and the mount which I put on my Aeros thinking I'd rather see my speed without taking my hand off the bars. If anyone has any idea why it says Loading Satellites for 45 minutes and still doesn't pick-up a single one please let me know. Other than that, It's great!!! Claire, it sounds like $400 is worth at least asking your hubby about. If that covers all those expenses, that means he could share the room and then just pay for his flight and his food right? Every time?

It could take that long if you are inside (duh) OR you have moved a long distance from the last time you used it.

I think it kind of "remembers" your location and kind of knows which satalites to look for.  so if you used it somewhere else (over a couple hundred miles away) it could take longer.  But really, it should only take about 45 seconds (mine does, anyway).  Maybe a minute longer if I haven't used it in weeks....

Aikidoman, I forgot your real name again.
But I did use it in Texas and then come home to FL.

I went outside and turned it on and then it asks if I'm indoors and if I've moved hundreds of miles. I say No to the inside thing and yes to the moved thing and then it starts crunching. Next thing I know, I still don't have a location and it's 45 minutes later. I've used several other Garmin systems and a few military ones and never had a problem. That's why I think it could just be broke. I could check against my old Garmin 3 (1998 version) and see if the satellites it's picking up match with the ones the 305 is attempting to pick-up.

9-months pregnant does give her the right to give the death-stare, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it scares me. I was in Iraq from week 6 until week 38 (of 40) of the last pregnancy so I've never seen the whole pregnant death-stare...

I totally understand what you mean. That's a big undertaking, especially with your plans already set. Not just time wise, but also finance wise. It's a great opportunity, but not like winning a lotterly slot for Kona. For that, I would probably shift some plans around!

Yeah, could be right - since you have experience with GPS and all.  I might leave it outside for an hour and see if it comes back.  If not, you may have a problem.  Sometimes mine takes a while, but if I hit the mode button, It seems have enough satalites to still do the job (pace, dist, etc)

Wow!  All this talk about a Garmin!  How fun!  I love gadgets!!!  Too bad it's just not in the budget right now.  My current Polar needs to break first.  Hmmm.  It has been acting funny lately!

Well, I just received my saddle-mount, rear bottle holder!  I'm excited to put it on my tri bike!  I might do it tonight after work.  Do any of you have these things?  Do you like them?  Any pointers?

Have a great afternoon everyone!

I used to use a Garmin GPS for work.  It did the same thing.  I'm gonna have to dig into the depths of my brain to remember what I did to get it back.  (That could be a scary trip!)  It worked fine afterwards.  I think I had to re-do some settings.  I'm sure yours is not broken.

Yep, just the inexpensive Profile Design version.  I think it's great and looks cool.  Less clutter on the down and seat tubes.

The only trick is getting used to getting the bottles out, and even harder, getting the bottles back in without looking - just by feel only.  You can look down at the cages on the tubes, but not behind you (or at least I'm not brave enough to try it!).

There was ONE time I got home and a bottle was missing - still don't know what happened.  Maybe didn't get it all the way in.....

Could just need a cold boot or reset.  That's my default course of action on most electronics.  From computers to the WiFi to the cable box.  When things get screwy, take all power away, and do a cold start.  Fixes the prob. a lot of the time.....

If you want your polar to die, take it to Texas and back. Maybe that's the thing. What goes in Texas, stays in Texas. Oh, that's Vegas...

It's gonna be a long night. Big presentation manana. I'll be around.

fortunately for us we are both tri junkies and gear junkies.  unfortunately, i am ALSO a clothes, shoes, and purse junkie.  i've cut back on the purses a lot (haven't bought a new one in probably a year!), and the last pair of shoes i bought were both fabulous (green croc pumps - faux of course) AND on super clearance for $15 AND super comfy.  soo...all that's left is the tri stuff, and he can't fault me because he buys stuff all the time too .  i just got a new jersey, and today i picked up two running skirts from target c9 to try out.  woohoo!

I actually managed to break one of these with my butt. No joke. When I get tired on the bike I start to slide more and more back on the seat. This was a plastic rear bottle holder with a hinge between the seat attachment and the bottles, and I got more and more tired, slid more and more back, until all of a sudden the hinge snapped and the bottles were swinging and dripping water everywhere. Had to put the bottles in my jersey to get them home.

Now I have a rear bottle holder made of steel. Maybe it is weighing my bike down, but at least it will hold up to my slack-a$$

That is what is known in South Carolina as a "Sweathog" a feral pig released by the Spanish in the 1500s and 1600s in Florida that spread throughout the Southeast. This picture was taken in Coke County, TX at a local taxidermy shop. The state of Texas allows the culling of those pigs pretty much all year-round because they will gore people, cattle, dogs, and they're very much overpopulated.

My squadron mascot in my last unit in the Marine Corps was a Sweathog so I chose the picture. I used to have one of my son, but it drew several questions since he was crying really hard. I'll post it sometime.

Well, I'm all done for the night. 11pm, not bad for a pre-presentation night. Now I'll get some sleepies and then get-up and go to the pool. Hope everyone has a good night and good workouts tomorrow.

Oh, one question for the group!
When you import a workout plan, does it start immediately or does it give you a way to select the date of the event?
I want to import the Full Marathon plan but I'm at week 25, not week 20 like the plan entails.

Traci, you wanna do the same program starting the 8th of June? We can keep each-other on-task up until the MCM. Only thing is that there's about zero time for swimming/riding.

yes, you can have it either start on a certain day, or end on a certain day, whichever you wish.  pretty nifty!  good luck with the presentation!

Oh my!  The death stare is making me laugh!!!  A friend of mine was pregnant while her husband was away.  I did lots of things for her that her husband really should have been doing.  She just about bit my head off one day!  I wanted to go crawl in a corner and vanish!  She was wearing a new sundress that I thought was really pretty and looked really comfortable.  I told her that she should go buy another one so she wouldn't have to do laundry as often.  She then proceeded to say....."WHAT!  DO YOU THINK I'M NOT GOING TO FIT IN THIS ANY MORE AND I NEED TO GET A LARGER REPLACEMENT!!!!"  Holy cow!!!!  I've never been pregnant but I understand the "death stare".  Don't screw with it or you're screwed!!!  (We laugh about this all the time!)

I understand the carbon footprint thing, too!  I studied spotted owls for several years.  I can't even begin to explain how much paper I went through while capturing, surveying, and printing up maps!  I'm sure I was personally responsible for eliminating critical habitat!
