Mr2Tony

I am staying at the Sunspree. I am arriving sometime on Friday, driving down from Raleigh. I am just sort of lurking around because I am only doing the HIM, so not as tough or is it crazy as all the others on here.

I'm in for Fri @ 7:15.  My husband can help pick up unless he decides to come swim with us!  Our hotel is walking distance to both places (we are at the Summer Sands Suites).  (but maybe not walking distance while wet and in a wetsuit and booties : )

jamesehatcher - 2009-10-26 4:13 PM Alright...Swim on Friday Morning.

Heres what we did last year.

Someone needs to leave a car or truck at the marina and then ride back to the Blockade Runner.  We can then do a group swim to the marina (about 30 minutes) to test the water and the current.  If we start around 7:45 it will be about the same time when you hit this section of the course Saturday Morning.  I am thinking my friend who is traveling with me to the race will car pool us back to the Blockade.

Is everyone up for meeting around 7:15 at The Blockade?

I am also planning on a 15' Bike/Run Brick Friday afternoon if anyone cares to join me after lunch.

GOD PLEASE DON'T LET ME GET SICK OVER THE NEXT 12 DAYS!
I'll join you for the bike/run. I'm going to need to get in the water at some point Friday but likely won't be in twon from Raleigh early enough on Friday to make the group swim. Hey who's staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree?

I'm staying at the Sunspree also.  I would love to get in a swim but I'm not arriving until late in the afternoon.

Can't wait for Friday morning.  Hopefully the weather will be "warm".

I am staying at the Holiday Island Spree at the beach also.  All of us staying there should coordinate Saturday morning to ride together to T1.  They have shuttles that will take us back to the swim start but I plan on checking my tires and loading up my nutrition (perpetum) on Saturday.

Also, the dinner on Thursday night was not too great last year.  Anyone up for something better on Thursday night let me know.

Oh yeah what is everyone doing Friday night for dinner?

I AM GETTING EXCITED!

Hey everyone.  I am sooo nervous about this race- my first Ironman.  I've gotten up to 20 mile run (one), and gotten 3 century rides, one 6 hour trainer ride, one 5 hour CompuTrainer ride, and several 2.5- 3 mile pool swims, but am still soo nervous.  I am staying at the Blockade Runner and would love to swim Friday morning as well.
Ben

The Blockade, is that a hotel or location?

Oh, the 15/15 is that 15 minutes or miles? I know the run is minutes, just wondering about the bike.

Blockade Runner is a hotel if I'm understanding correctly---what's the parking situation there (can we leave cars there or some place close by)?

I am arriving around noon on Friday and then going right to bike check-in and planning on the 2pm athlete meeting. No workouts for me that day, unless I decide to do some running strides later. I'm still interested in the Friday dinner at 5pm at Fat Tony's.

I am liking today's Accuweather forecast for Nov 7th
Times of sun and clouds
Low: 56 °F
High: 77 °F

It's getting real folks. Annnnd I just puked. OK I'm rallying ...

I'm staying at the Sunspree but will not be arriving until Friday morning. We're staying in Raleigh for the night since my friend isn't getting in town until late Thursday evening. Anybody want to schedule a second group swim somewhere for later in the day?

I called the Holiday Inn Sunspree several days ago as I've been working on my race weekend plans.  The woman at the front desk that I spoke to said that they will have shuttles running from the hotel to T1 on race morning though she wasn't sure of the times.  I followed this up this morning, and they told me that the shuttles will run beginning at 5AM (for athletes not for equipment) though they were unsure of the frequency.  There was also some question of whether the shuttles were going to T1 or to the swim start.  Someone is calling me back to verify this.  I will let you know.

Maybe the BTers staying at this hotel could meet in the lobby at a set time and take the shuttle over together.

The Coastline Convention Center, 501 Nutt street, Wilmington, NC 28401.  I don't think it's far from the Battleship and the Hilton.

Here is an email I just received from Jennier at B2B....

Good morning!

Race day is quickly approaching and we are working hard to make sure as many details as possible are considered and taken care of before you arrive for what we all hope will be a wonderful event. Just last night, Jeremy said that he ordered 60-degree weather for the start, a high of 65 during the day, and 60 degrees at the finish -- with no rain or wind at all…

My world of details involves registrations and I’d like your help to make sure that the buses are full on race morning. If you are getting this e-mail, it means I have confirmed with you a spot on a bus for you and any others in your party.

If your transportation needs have changed and you no longer need a spot on the bus or if you inadvertently reserved a spot for a family member, not an athlete, please let me know so I can begin filling those seats with registered participants who are on a waiting list. No need to reply if nothing needs to change.

Your athlete packets should be arriving any day now and the same file is available to download from the website under FAQs. If those resources don’t answer your particular question or concern, please contact me and I’ll do my best to help out.

Travel safely and have a great race!

I believe that the shuttle she is referring to is from the Hilton in downtown Wilmington (not hotels in Wrightsville Beach) to T1 on race morning.  Other shuttles will run from T1 to the swim start between 5:30-6:30 and no reservation is needed for these...at least this is what I have gleaned from the athlete packet that I downloaded.

Just for  an FYI a buddy of mine who did  B2B last year said he used  Body Glide warmth and applied it to his arms and feet and kneck before the swim(he wore a sleevless) and then reapplied  in T1 for the bike and it was like a shield against the cold water and the wind when biking.

That Hot Body Glide looks like the real deal....Seems like I saw a K1 Lube ad with the same details

Shuttle Bus leaving the Sunspree at 5:00 AM....Lets have a BT Bus Party over to T1 for those of us staying at the Sunspree.....get all of our stuff ready on the bike.....then take the shuttle down to the beach together.

This is going to be a blast!   Anyone up for dinner on Friday Night?

I am planning on a 30' EZ Ride followed by a 15' EZ Run at 1:00 on Friday after a light lunch.  Meeting in the parking lot of
the Sunspree.

My phone number is 706-878-0758.  All of my BT Friends are welcome to call me with questions about locations etc....

My wife is not able to come and one of my riding/drinking buddies is making the trip with me.  Saturday Night could get really really ugly!!!!!!

Haha, funny. I hope you are feeling better now...?

Fat Tony's is an Italian restaurant within walking distance of the Hilton, so very convenient if you are staying there. So far, I still have just a few interested, so was not going to try and make a reservation. Shouldn't be too hard getting a table for 6 at 5pm.

I feel worse but the doc assures me this 5-day Zpack will cure all my ills. I ran about 7 last night and felt OK so I'm hoping it's leaving my body.
