Wow...you all had some good #'s!  I'll have to keep up w/ Feb to contribute for the next round.  Don't think my #'s for Jan would be anything like the power you all cranked out.  Good job and keep it up!

Everyone's rockin along it seems....awesome.  All my bike was on the trainer.  I really need to get better at doing my long runs.  I was sidelined first half of the month with some wicked tendonitis in my right foot/ankle. Can't wait for longer daylight!

Bike: 11h 50m - 248.89mi
Run: 5h 58m - 28.95mi
Swim: 9hr 45min - 22125m
Strength: 5hr 22mins

How do you determine your trainer miles? Is there a formula?

My computer is a rear wheel mounted one, so it tracks speed and miles on the trainer just like it does outside. The speed is probably off some based on the tension on the wheel, but the distance should be accurate.

I have a power tap and Computrainer and they often says I'm going like 11 mph inside when I ride. I pick a number based on the effort level.

No way when I am doing 4' hard intervals I'm averaging 14 mph.

I don't care the miles really but need to do the work.

I have a powertap and look at power, cadence only. Speed is relative to outside and even that you are better off looking at your ave power during your ride and do so according to a set plan your coach might have set up for you.

It's important especially in a IM because if you keep your power numbers in a certain range you won't blow up by going to fast or not exerting enough power. It's so easy to get going with the adrenaline of the race and go out without focus. You might be faster and be all concerned on being passed but it won't do you any good in the marathon when you are walking it and that chick you passed is running by you. This will be my 3rd IM and believe me this advice is for me too.

My training in January is going very well. I can't wait to test again on the bike. I have feeling my FTP will increase by 10-15 which would be awesome. The 200's are around the corner.. : ) My running is going so well too. I have my running legs back ! I changed gym and now run on a track . For me it's so much better than a treadmill. It's like you are not in cruise anymore but you are driving. I also find the treadmill to cause me pain ( shins and toe). My weight is also down. Eating clean for me is the way to go. Looks like everybody is doing really well !! Good job !!!

phatknot - 2010-02-02 6:53 AM Must be tough for you folks living in hotels!

This was an exceptional month for that for me, normally a week every couple of months.  But the 2 week vacation the first part and a longer than normal business trip left me with only 4 or 5 days at home.  The toughest part for me is the bike and swim.  Sometimes I can find a pool with convenient hours, sometimes I can't.  Biking is usually limited to the stationary bike in the hotel fitness centers.

Lot of time till November and the race, so nice to get this stuff over now!

Well somebody's got to bring up the rear:
Bike:8h 00m  - 103.88 Mi
Run:4h 04m  - 22.83 Mi
Swim:2h 08m  - 6250 Yd
Strength:3h 44m
Skiing:40h 30m
Yoga:2h 00m

I am excited though, because I've finally gotten on a schedule and started to work out for real.   My barefoot running is coming along and after almost a year of dealing with it, my achilies no longer hurt.

Only 9 months left...

It isn't  very fun.  I've now been in this hotel almost 8 weeks and I will then be in Iraq for 6 months....

I booked our place for IMFL tonight!!

I will be staying a week and renting 3 bedroom place at Shores of Panama...great deal. IMFL housing is so much cheaper than IMLP. My family will be coming later than I go and I plan to meet up with 'Catwomen'  Renee from BT for my first few days.

You can book SWA to Panama City now...so much easier for our family to get there now.

When is everyone planning on going to Florida for the race?  i can decide.  I want to make a week out of it since it is pretty far, but I think going back to work on the Monday after will be too soon.  I'm thinking we (DH and I) should go Tuesday night to Tuesday morning or something like that.  My Dad is renting a condo in PCB for the month of November and we are staying with him so check-in and out days shouldn't be an issue.  (My aunts and uncles always go down for November and this year my dad is going to join them ).

We are going Tuesday to Tuesday. Family probably Thursday to Tuesday.

IMLP we went up Wed. for Sunday race which worked good so duplicating that time frame.

IM Canada we got to race city Monday but it was long way to get there...we flew to Seattle spent a day touring Seattle then drove up to Penticton. The extra days before the race was great but not possible with an IM during school year.

I like registering first day and avoiding the hoopla as much as possible the two days before the race.
