Big training week for me.  I did a 17 mile run Thursday, 4500 yard swim with a short run after on Friday, a 112 mile ride with a 6 mile run off the bike yesterday, and just a yoga session today.

They are filling the lake with water!

I've been flushing my toilet over and over so it fills faster.

For those with experience swimming in Tempe Town lake.  Is Sleveless wetsuits Ok for this race?  This is all I have right now but I am willing to buy a sleeved suit if I have to. I still have time.

As a reference, I am a decent swimmer, I did Silverman last year with my sleveless suit and felt good.  I think I am Ok with low 60's water for HIm distance but not sure about the full 2.4.  Also, I did Alcatraz will a rental full sleeve and I overheated (47 minutes and not sure what the water temp was).

You might be okay. It was low 60's last year, and only a few folks swam sleeveless. There were lots of people suffering from the cold, but most of them took more than 1:45 to do the swim. If you're out of the water in under 1:20, the cold won't bite you as hard.

As I recall from last year, the water was in the low 60s last year and most people were wearing fulls.  I didn't have a problem until I got out of the water and realized my hands and feet were numb (I wore a full wetsuit).  I'm also not used to training in cold water.  If you overheated at Alcatraz I'm sure you can handle the temp at Tempe Town Lake wearing a sleeveless.

The open up the lake to participants a couple days before the event as well.  I suggest you get in a swim as soon as they open  the lake to test out the water temps.  Last year it began at 8am on Thursday through Saturday.

Tempe Town Lake is closed for swimming outside of events. Sorry.

On a positive note, there is water in the lake now.

As far as wetsuits go, it is really what you have been able to handle in the past and the temps then.  I did IMAZ in 08 and swam a 1:11.  My body temperature went down considerably at about 3800-4000 meters.  My turnover slowed way down and I was definitely getting cold.  I had a full suit on.  When I go out I shivered for 8 minutes trying to get my bike arm warmers on.  This year I am swimming with a neoprene swim cap.  Again, it really depends on you.  I am always cold on swims even in the pool.

Even though the lake is normally closed to swimming outside of the events. When I did this race in 2006 they allowed swimming starting on Thursday through Saturday. It was only open for swimming to Ironman racers and it was I think from 8 am to 10 am. This is a normal practice for the swim course at all Ironman race to be open to racers before the race. I am pretty sure this will be allowed this year. I will wait for the offical word from the athlete's guide that should be out soon.

For the folks who are traveling by plane, are you shipping your bike, bringing it with you, or using some bike transportation company?  I want to use Tri Bike Transport,  but I have to drop my bike off on the 10th.  I used them before and they are great.  I don't have any big rides during that time and I can always borrow a bike for some short rides.  I think the pros of doing it out weigh the cons.  I was just curious to see what other people are doing.

I am taking it with me on the plane in my brand new Bike Case that my wife got me.  I used Bike transport for Hawaii 70.3 and they were great but IMAZ will be cheaper to travel with my bike (Southwest=$50 each way)

Also, I am getting there on Friday morning so i will have plenty of time to put it together and test ride it

The local news station just reported that they have dumped 70,000 Israeli carp into the lake. Yay for swimming friends.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a pre-race swim on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Since Gatorade is out and I heard they paid the city to allow for swimming on those days, I am wondering if someone else has sponsored the swim.

Im using tribiketransport..
a)because I don't own or want to own a bike box.
b)Im going on vacation out there for the following week; the last thing I want to do is lug my tricrap around. (Im having them transport my gear too for the extra whatever I paid for it
c) DO NOT USE UPS TO SHIP YOUR BIKE YOU WILL SERIOUSLY REGRET IT!!..a good friend of mine from bean town shipped hers to  Nationals and they broke her fork, saddle and aerobars..bike store didnt insure for the amount she requested..in order for her to recoup claim against them they wanted her to send her bike back in the damaged box to Alabama so they could inspect it..

Just called tribike transport and I can do 1 way for $150 and I don't have to take anything apart.  Bargin in my book.

So what is everyone doing this weekend as far as workouts go?  Should be getting close to peak training here.
I am riding 140 miles or 7 hours, which ever comes first, and a 3 mile race pace brick.  Sunday is 21 miles on the run.  Let's see what others are doing.

I am going with the airline.....$50 one way on frontier.  Not taking my bike apart would be nice, but not worth the extra $200 for me.

This was a recovery week for me.  8 mile run today, with a ~ 2 hr mtn bike ride yesterday.  2 more weeks of big mileage, then 2 weeks of taper.....its getting close!
