Glad to hear that you are ok.  Like the others, I'm amazed that someone could hit a cyclist and then keep going.

Hope both you and the bike aren't too bad when you assess things in the morning.

I'm sorry to hear about the bike but am glad that you are okay enough to post here. Yikes. It makes me so mad that some one would drive off. I hope they catch the driver.

There needs to be someone like the "Bounty Hunter" for hit and run drivers.

How scary!!!! good to hear you didn't get badly hurt. I can't believe the jerk just drove off. I hope the police catch him and that you aren't too sore tomorrow and that you recover quickly.

Houstonrider - 2009-12-18 5:35 PMWell it happened....... I was riding down 528 having a great ride, 22 miles into my 90 minute ride and cruising between 20 and 21mph when an on coming car decided to turn in front of me to go into the Kroger parking lot. All I saw was it's tire then him trying slow as I swerved around his front end. I then felt his bumper on my leg as I slid down his hood and then went over the handle bars when my front tire hit the curb. I went over the handle bars still clipped in and luckily landed in grass. Instantly my left leg cramped up and I couldn't unclip. I watched the car slow down, then proceed to leave. At this point I didn't even think to look for his tag numbers. In the end I have a cracked fork or cracked wheel, don't know which but the bike makes a creaking noise when weight is on the front tire and the wheel is turned.

I guess on the bright side it happened early in the season and still gives me time to get things repaired.

Justin - Ken called me right after he talked with you and my heart sank.  I am so glad you are OK!
If I lived close I'd bring by some Arnica - you know me and my voodoo.  Take care of yourself tomorrow, rest up!

Glad you are not to bad off. Sliding across the hood and flipping over and a little sore. Sounds pretty tough man.
Houstonrider - 2009-12-18 5:41 PMThanks for all your well wishes. The police just left my house, with a description of the car, but I must say I made a horrible victim/witness and couldn't provide much detail. It is a small town and if the car has damage maybe the person will turn up.

My hip and calve are starting to get stiff but other than that I'm in good shape. Once again thanks for the kind words.

Just got off the phone with fattyfatfat, and he suggested I get a new helmet. Well what do you you know...... my helmet is dented 3 inches above my right ear. I guess when I hit the ground I did hit my head. The more I think I about it, the more I realize I was very lucky. Good thing I'm slow and my guardian angel could keep up.

Went to what I thought was a birthday dinner last night...ended up being a surprise party.  Long story short- I drank waaay too much and don't feel much like a triathlete today!!  Thought I was going to do a long run today- definitely not happening now.  At least I didn't do any PUI-ing last night.

Just now catching up with all the posts.  Justin - I hope you aren't too sore this morning.  Glad you and the bike are okay.  Doesn't really surprise me the guy didn't stop.  It's so sad really.

A beat down..huh?  We will see about that John.  Maybe I'll even run backwards when I pass you so you won't have any pace booty.  Oh wait ...that means you would have to be in front of me!  Not gonna happen!

* There needs to be someone like the "Bounty Hunter" for hit and run drivers. *

Good thing this wasn't a ride I was on with Justine.  I already went nuts on some 300+ lbs dude and he didn't even hit us (changed lanes to get pretty close-buzzed for sure).  After I realized Justine was ok, Ken the Bounty Hunter would have been looked for the driver.

It sounds like only a spacer and a helmet need to be replaced and Justine is not too banged up.  Thank god for the Ninja like reflexes that allowed Justine to avoid hitting the car head on.  Really glad you are ok.

I'd like to get in on this Betsy / Fattyfat race.  However, I am hoping to be waiting for both of them at the finish line though Smile.  I am sure I will get a kick in the @ss on the way by if not.  Of course Eric will already have a shower and a change of clothes by the time I get there.
