I'm lurking! Waiting for the kids to finish homeschool so I can head to the pool for my first swim with a partner! Excited to have found someone to swim with. Will let you know how it goes!!

Awesome - training partners are the best!  It can help the motivation to get out there by leaps and bounds and cut the excuses!

I made it to spin class today.  The roads were horrible from the snow/sleet/rain mixture dumped on us today so I'm glad that I motivated when it could have been so easy not to go.  We found out in class today that we are getting new spin bikes by next week.  They will have monitors that display heart rate, calories burned and distance.  So psyched for that data!!

I am starting to like running on the treadmill and that worries me Surprised lol

Never thought I would enjoy it, but it makes it easier to do speed work.  No losing focus, slowing down, or talking to others while I run.

Will see if it improves my speed come spring.

didn't get my 2.5 in, only had 20 min to crank out on the treadmill and I did 2 miles in 20 min.!!!!!  I cannot believe it!  That is a record for me!

oh and I weighed in and only lost .2!  What is up with that I don't know.  I tracked and ate good and didn't go over my points and only .2  I wonder if it is because i ran right before I went and weighed in.  I was still sweating....who knows.  Going to keep pushing though!

So, i just went to go out for my 10k with hills with my running partner and we called it off because it's WAY too icy.  It's raining but that doesn't stop us but the poor traction as the sidewalks are a treacherous icy sluch. Ugh. Rescheduled but now I have to convince myself to go to the pool after some supper.

That sucks. I am lucky, we get snow and cold but never an icestorm. Hope they get some salt on it.

I am a data addict. When I forget my garmin I am almost lost. I had a race in September and my garmin. Died right before it, I had to go out and buy a new one I knew I just could not race without it. Looking at the data totally makes my workout seem worthwhile. For better or worse I suppose.

My swim partner has strep. Sort of invented my own swim workout...got it done, the quiet was nice! Hoping I can find someone to partner with for at least one of the disciplines soon. DH had to go run 9 min miles just to show me up yesterday - won't be running with HIM anytime soon!!!

Goood morning all!  Had a run last night and for some reason my right knee's been bothering me, quit after 2.11 miles. Was feeling down on myself but when I got home I determined to get a good lift in, which I did.  Did tris, chest and abs. Off to work now, have a great day everyone!

The best is when I am out running without it and I keep looking down at my wrist, too funny.

nice

I had a really good run, super smooth. did 6k at 5:18 which was a little faster than my 5:19 goal pace, but I felt I could have gone faster and further. Feels good to leave some in the tank you know.

Ahhh, the joys of a Garmin & a type "A" personality.  Fussing over a second per km!!

Gotta like it.

I have a confession...I am a member of the Tri-geek club as well.  Never run without my Garmin 310XT.
During bike season, it is strapped on my bike or wrist as well.

I download every run & look at my km splits, because I "have to".  It would be against my nature, not to!!

Anyway after that side-thread, Good run Darren!!

I only recently tried these and they are tough!! And really eye-opening in terms of pedalling efficiency!

Hi Guys,

We seem to be slowing down when it comes to chattiness here - so i thought i might as a question.

About movitation - if you're finding you're hitting all of your workouts and feeling confident - what's your motivation right now? What is driving you?  And if you're not, what seems to be keeping you from getting out the door?

I have a coach which helps tremendously.  He writes all my workouts for me and I generally follow blindly trying my best to do as I am told, I trust him.
My husband also tri's, this helps as well.  Right now he is training for his first HIM and I am training for my 2nd Oly, they are a week apart and our first races of the season.  Having something on the calendar is HUGE for me!  If I hadn't already signed up for races I'd likely slack on training.

The other motivating factor for me is I want to do well in the races I have coming up.  I did this Oly last year but was coming off an IT band injury, my run fitness was nowhere near where it should have been and it was a suffer fest.  I want to feel comfortable, confident and happy when I cross that finish line!

Hi Guys,

We seem to be slowing down when it comes to chattiness here - so i thought i might as a question.

For better or worse my day is not complete unless I get my run in. Right now, for me, running is like sleeping, when it is time to do it it has to be done. Simply is a fact of life. It has been this way since last summer. It is really a strange feeling.

Thinking about it, concentrating on running is likely easier than tri training though as it is just one thing I have to do each day. Juggling three sports is much more difficult, and there is always that thing where you trade your hated swim workout for an easy ride on the bike, or you already ran in the morning so you are going to skip riding today. Also, I found, when you miss a couple days of tri training things seem all gummed up, I mean you miss two days and you might miss out on 4 workouts, maybe missed your long bike or run. Then you are thinking about making that up, and really you are never going to, the training schedule is packed too tight. Then I used to get discouraged. Psychologically it is easier for me, if I miss two workouts, well, I just missed 2 runs, no biggie comparatively.

Of course, really, there is no difference. An interruption in training is as little or as big as you make it. I think I see that clearer now than I did before. When I first started I remember missing a couple days or a week and it felt like a big deal. And, in some ways it was as if you are only training for a month or two and then are off for a week, well that is significant, whereas I just had a break of almost 6 weeks at the end of 2010 and just picked her up again in January with no problems.

I feel like I'm in a really inbetween area right now.  Half marathon training is supposed to start in a few days which will bring my run workouts up to 4 or 5 but I'm having a lot of pain in my knee recently so I'm headed to the doctor tonight.  I can't imagine having to take off awhile from running, it's actually upsetting.  I know it's not the end of the world and there are other things I can do, but it's really frustrating and I'd hate to not be able to run this race or run it underprepared.  On the other hand, this wedding has really got me motivated to lift more which I think will be beneficial to all areas of triathlon.

I guess for me I just got tired of sitting around.  We have been trying to get pregnant since June and I had in my mind that i was going to half a** it because I was going to be pregnant.  Well, 9 months later I am not and now i have changed my mindset.  I just can't sit around and wait for somehting that may or may not happen.  So why not train and be healthy and if I do great, I can still train and if I don't i will get the body i had before I got pregnant the first time back.

I really am ready to do the runs I have lined up in March and April and want to find a descent sprint in my area possibly for May.  So I am sticking to it and ready to go this time!  And a lot of women train and race while pregnant tooLaughing
