Veteran 184 | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread kenb - 2013-05-06 6:19 PM I did my longest ride yet of the season, 74 miles, just long enough to realize my nutrition plan is completely lacking , and after 50 miles, I think I would rather eat dirt than gu ! What do some of you veterans do? For race day last year I used Perpetuem (a concentrated 6 hour bottle) in one cage, water bottle in the other cage that I swapped at the stations and a bento box with Honey Stinger waffle pieces and Honey Stinger chews to mix it up. Perpetuem covered my bases, the others were little rewards/extra calories depending on how the day was going... |

Ken I think with a 6 hr. bottle of Perpetumn it is highly concentrated mixture of powder and a water. You drink the Perp. mixture and follow it down with some water. I have been using two hr. bottles of Perpetumn; 2 packets of powder in a water bottle mixed with water. In my case I drink the perpetumn and drink water at other times as well.

Yep, enough scoops for 6 hours- it's pretty concentrated, but not too bad. A sip of my bottle and a splash of water every so often and I get calories and fluid. I leave a bottle in special needs with half the powder in case I drop my bottle for some reason- good to have a back up plan! It works for me since I'm used to training with Perpetuem and when we do long rides around here I can just duck into a gas station to grab water if needed. |

Extreme Veteran 725 | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Hi Joe - I tend to do well with a high training volume. My big training weeks range between 22-26 hours. Vineman will be my 8th full iron distance race. I am building my volume now. My training for this race is going to be a bit different since I am using it as a long training day and prep for my race in October (double ironman). I will hopefully be building more volume than I have had in the past. Feel free to check out my logs for the previous years. A typical "good" training week: 3-4 hours swim, 200 mikes bike, 40-45 miles run. Hope this info helps. :-) |

New user 10 San Diego, CA | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Double, that is just crazy!!! Good on ya Amy. For nutrition I have been sticking to EFS and salt stick capsules. Chalk hill would not appear to be much based on the elevation gain? Can anyone confirm, 400ft gain? I am down in San Diego and there are hills everywhere though. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Nice 60 plus mile ride today with my Tri Club. Pushed it up and back. We averaged 19 MPH on the way back over 30 miles. What I didn't get for time (suppose to do 4 hrs.) I got in intensity. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Got a heel lift last week from my PT and I think it is actually helping. Although my periformis muscle is spasming and is sore my hips and lower back are not as achey or sore as last week. Felt better the last couple mornings as well. I usually struggle in the morning but this hasn't been the case the last few days. Keeping my fingers crossed that this as well as exercising is helping. |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread The swim was great! It is nice to have the distance done so that mentally I know I can do it. Good job on your swim too, Brian!
Tried to go buy the Perpetum that you all were talking about, but our local bike shop doesn't have it anymore. They only carry Accelerade. I didn't get it because it was a lot higher in sugar. I guess I will have to call around to try and find it. |

Not sure how I feel at this point. I feel like I should be more tired, but with my Periformis muscle hurting and spasming I am trying to hold back some on my run.I need to get up in the am to run and bike to get my workouts in early. My wife is starting to stress me out. She means well, but this whole thing is not her cup of tea.Edited by TriGuyBri 2013-05-14 11:55 PM |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Hopefully things are starting to turn around for me. I had a couple weeks where I was mentally in a low spot. However, yesterday I read a gal's race report from her first ironman and it totally lifted my spirits. She was the last female and the 4th to last person to finish, but she was so positive and excited that she finished. It made me remember that finishing is my goal. Who cares what my watch says as long as I make the cut-offs. Perhaps one day I will want to work hard enough to be faster, but right now I just want to stop dreading each workout and the race itself. I want to enjoy the journey. Then to top off my attitude shift, I had a pleasant 10 mile run last night. That is a miracle because running and I just don't get along. haha. My knees and hips still ached, but I wasn't dying. Yay!
Brian, way to keep plugging along! How is your wife stressing you out? Too much time training or she wants you to train more? |

Expert 767 Littleton, Colorado | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I have a HIM this Saturday, and of course am sick AGAIN. Heading to the doc in a bit to see if there is anything they can do. I don't know what is going on, but I feel like I have been sick every other week this whole spring. It's really hard to get in the training groove. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Finally figured out what was making noise while riding. It was my seat. I loosened up the seat and put some lube on the rails and it stopped the cracking noise. I changed my crank to a Shimano Hollowtech 105 finally with a new chain. First time doing that with this style of bottom bracket. It was rather simple. I still have to install my 10 Spd. 105 Brifters, 105 Front and rear derail. and get a 10 spd. 12-27 or 12-28 cassette. That will come in due time. I ordered some tools to assist with the change over. Rather do it myself than pay the Bike shop. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Finally got my butt out of bed to run this morning. Wasn't the prettest run I have ever done. My lower back and periformis were not cooperating that early. End up walking the first 1.5 miles or so. After that I finally settled into a decent marathon pace whihc for me is 11:30 - 12. I told myself I was going to walk the whole 75 min. if I had to. Off to my first OWS of the season tonight at a Reservior in the area. Will be a bit cold but doable.Have a great training weekend everyone. Getting closer and closer. |
