Bummer Whizzzz It would have been a blast to have you kick our butts up and down the bike course. But the Grand Columbian looks like an AWESOME venue. You pulling the full IM?

Sounds like a great idea and a lot of fun, but it's too far for me to travel right now.

No... Chris is... I'm doing the half. That's more than enough for me with the Chicago Marathon coming up!

And then there's that semi-planned move I threw in a few months ago.

My race report for today's race is in - no splits yet, but my final time was 1:58:34. I hoped to break about 2:!5, so I was pretty psyched!!! THanks for all of your help and support, Whizzzz, and everyone else!!

How's everybody doing?? I have my "A" race next weekend, an Olympic distance, my goal is to finish. I think I am going to be DFL. Truly. And I don't care. I just want to survive.

What's up with all of you?

Race report is up.

Tri number 2 is in the books. I learned one very important thing during this tri--you can make it through the swim no matter what it just might not be very fast. Overcoming issues is the key on race day. Lots of work to do on OWS in a wetsuit and transitions (ugh, I am not good at them at all).

Disappointed with my bike time, should have been faster. The run went about as well as expected considering I look like Festus from Gunsmoke when I run.

I will post a lessons learned later.

OK, crazy woman that I am, I signed up for a half Ironman next year before I even finished my first Olympic distance!! I figured that after my Olympic on Sunday, I may not want to do this again, so I have no choice, since I already am signed up.

Yikes!!! I know I can train for and handle the swim and the run, but the bike is intimidating to me. Ride, ride, ride.

Race report up.

Random notes

- I enjoyed this more than the sprint. Partly, I'm sure it was familiarity with the environment, but the distance was a better fit to me.

- I think that the shifting to day shift prior to race weekend would have worked to help me sleep the night before except I had some things come up this week resulted in my mind racing making sleep hard to come by at any time.

- It's not practical to fast for an hour before Mass when the service starts 5 minutes after you finish racing.

Excellent job, Laura, especially on the bike!! Good work! And the run was not bad, considering you walked parts of it. Nice work!!

No, you can't join my mentor group - duplicate memberships unnecessary and we're already in the same group.

I've got one more tri on the schedule in September and then the Army 10-Miler and the Marine Corp Marathon in Oct (I did a Coast Guard run already, so if anyone knows anything sponsored by the Navy and Air Force it would round things out nicely)

Hi all. After taking some heat for my "brief" race report, I've edited the Silver Lake Triathlon report for the race on 8-25. Please take a look if you're interested. Tribadger.

I agree with Nancylee. RTT and I are going to register for IM Wisconsin '08 on Monday after the race (AREN'T WE LORI). First, it's hard to get in anyhow, but once we're in, it's done, then all we need to do is train, train, train. I think if I waited to do a HIM before I decided about an IM, I could get discouraged and talk myself out of it.

Uh, oh. I am officially a bike junkie. Take a look at the new addition. Triple chain ring and a little more aggressive riding position.

This is Eric's new ride. Thanks to his mom and dad who gave us a very nice monetary gift that we immediately blew on bikes!

I am officially thoroughly disappointed in Tribadger and RTT. What happened the the moral superiority of steel! If you're gonna do it, I suppose a Madone is probably a pretty decent way to do it!

I am seriously doubting my ability to do this Olympic distance race tomorrow - I am regretting ever signing up for it. I hurt my finger last night, and was hoping to be able to pull out of it because of it, but a little blister doesn't seem sufficient to drop out of a race I have trained 5 months for.

I am going to be the slowest person out there. Everyone says I should not care, but they have never been last, or almost last. The feeling of the police car slowly following you is terrible. It makes you want to go faster, but you can't go any faster.

And the run - I have not yet run more than 45 minutes, and that was at a 15 minute pace. I will take at least 4 1/2 hours out there, which I have never done. My longest brick was 30 minutes swim, 2 hours bike, 45 minutes run. I am figuring 1 hour swim, 2 hours bike if I am lucky, because I am not supposed to push, and 90 minute run. I may die. I know I will come in last.

Besides from disappointing my coach and my family, why should I do this race? If I screw up, it may end my triathlon adventure. And I don't want that to happen.

Nancy,

You have gone through so many emotions just this season... just in the few months we have known you here in the Posse... doubt, fear, pride, elation, joy, happiness, sadness.... EVERY emotion on the spectrum of feelings!

BUT...this crazy stuff we do is all about testing your limitations. Making yourself hurt, cry, laugh, doubt and seeing if you can do more. You might be last... but someone has got to be last... I've been last... just bring up the rear with style and flair and be sure to wear something cute. Heck, I nearly set a 10K PR for myself and I was STILL last. I wound up running with a man who was shot in Vietnam! We were the last 2 finishers of this 10K, but I can't be disappointed because it was nearly my personal BEST! (No mediocre runners showed up to sort of buffer me from the great runners... even if I would have run a PR...by more than a minute per mile... I STILL would have been LAST.)

As long as you go out there and do your best... there is no reason your coach or your family or any of US would be disappointed in you or your effort. I honestly think your coach would be more disappointed if you pulled out of the race because of a blister on your finger.

You may come in last. You may not. You don't know who else is going to be out there! You have been training for this. You have done lots of work this year and come a long way, baby! Wink. Don't doubt yourself now.

I suspect you will be faster than 2 hours on the bike... and faster than an hour in the swim. Take the race piece by piece. Concentrate on what you are doing in the moment. Get off the bike and take the run step by step. Perpetual Forward Motion. Stop when you reach the end.

Then, give yourself a hug and a little break from training. Return in the off season refreshed and renewed and ready to tackle next year's HIM training. (!!!!!)

Nancy,

Do your best and remember it will be a PR no matter what.

I would bet your swim will be better than 1 hour based on your last race.

I think that I made an awful lot of women look pretty good last week when compared to me. I figure until I get better at this my goal is to have fun and make everyone else look fast!

You will surprise yourself.

Good luck and have a fun race!
