Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bumpity, bump. How is everything going for all of you? What races do you have planned early this spring? I will be meeting with our coach in the next few weeks for a running gait analysis. Should be fun since I am not a very "pretty" runner. Functional, yes, but I am sure I can pick up some speed with some tweaking. Eric had a great experience with her when she did his analysis. I will have him share some really good information that he received from her including some exercises to balance out muscle groups. This will be our last week on our own. Here comes accountability!

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() School here is pretty overwhelming. I'm not behind like I was last semester, just have lots of reading and papers to do. Training has taken a hiatus this month so far Today, I'm struggling with the knowledge that many young people are saying goodbye to a sweet soul. I want to be there but can't be. My heart is breaking for my son who is trying very hard to cope with losing someone he really liked. Although it has been awhile since they have seen each other or talked, he was constantly asking her grandparents how she was.
Anyway, I need to go do some more work. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Training is going pretty good here. My swim speed is slowly increasing, but I'm sure I could shave at least 30 seconds per lap if I actually knew what I was doing. OK, maybe not 30 seconds, but you get the idea. Marathon training officially started today. I need to back off the intensity a bit and just stick to the plan. Running fast during the build up phase won't do me much good if I'm injured for the race. What about the bike? Well, it's still there and it looks lonely. Maybe I'll be able to take it out for a spin by July when the ice melts. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did a running gait analysis this morning. Very eye opening to see yourself on video. I thought my back was straight, it wasn't. Coach Jess taped me walking first. She tapes both front and back views and then tapes you running--front, back, and side. Lucky for me, nothing really to fix and no major form flaws that would contribute to injuries. She told me I was a very efficient runner but I could be a lot faster (though I don't need to be for IM WI). Posture in running is very important. My shoulders tend to be rotated forward which causes a slight collapse in the upper body. Why is that important? Your lungs are constricted which makes getting oxygen more difficult. The "hunched over the computer" posture is bad and contributes to being tired in the afternoon. She recommends a Versa Disk for your chair at the computer. Pretty amazing little device that causes you to move if you are not sitting with good posture (using your core muscles). Fast runners normally have a slight ski jumpers posture, leaning forward with your chest up and no bend at the waist. Your head/chin also need to stay up (I tend to look down on the treadmill). She gave me two running drills (hamstring kick, and knee lift) to do prior to running and I must work toward getting my running cadence to 90 (count only one side). In addition, core exercises using the ball will help with my posture and strengthening/balancing running muscles. One stretch for loosening the pectoral muscles will also help with my running posture. If you are struggling with injuries I would highly recommend spending the time/money to get this done. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() More snow for me - this is getting really old. Can't even get to class at the Y, probably. I have been working on a blog - it is very raw, but fun. Check it out if you like - I will be adding lots of info that I have come across on tris, etc. http://www.nancyleestris.blogspot.com/ Have a great day, all!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi guys! Unfortunately lately work has been extremely busy, and I haven't had time during the day to respond to any posts or do much of anything, really... except (gasp!) work! Just wanted to make you all aware that Lori and Eric start their IM training plans TODAY! I'm already proud of you guys! Work hard. Reap your rewards come September! Anyone else have anything exciting to report? Aside from Nancy's blog? (I'm going to check that out later tonight!) Have a great week, guys. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() April is almost here. How is everyone doing? Enlightening day with Coach Jess today. My bike fit was wrong, the cleats on my shoes were not in the right position, and I am a slow swimmer. My pedaling stroke on the bike was pretty good. Wow. The good news, my nutrition is not too far off (carbs, fat, protein balance) but I need to drink and eat more during exercise. Hmmmm, string cheese, cottage cheese, fruit, protein drinks for snacks? My teddy grahams and cookies days are over (sigh). Has everyone's injuries healed (BAMBAM, Episcopit)? Any changes in race plans? I have been checking your logs, spring is here and we can get outside and train. Let's have an update! |

I have been checking your logs, spring is here and we can get outside and train. Let's have an update! Hey everyone! I'll give you the update on me... Right now I'm ((STILL)) trying to regain the full ROM in my gimpy knee. It's functional, but not like I'd like it to be.... I'd suspected some imbalances were making my RIGHT hamstring start to act up, and according to my ART doctor, I am correct. My right side has been compensating for my left gimpy side for a long long time... (From way before my surgery) as a result, I've compressed my hip flexors and jammed my right side in a way that has resulted in a nearly 2 INCH difference in length between my right side and left side... (Arms, legs, etc!) So now we work to balance this back out. Also, I've just been put on a new medication to treat my hypertension. The first medication brought the top number down, but didn't do an adequate job of treating the bottom number. I'm now on an ACE inhibitor as well as a diuretic. I feel old! Training, is going fine. I just want to iron out all of these different anomalies so I can get right on with my IM training next year. I don't want to be doing THIS kind of stuff while I'm trying to build volume for IMWI next year. Am hoping to have all of this crap completely sorted out by then. You guys!??!?

whatcha think? You will love the Aquabike. Do it! You will LOVE it. Swim like a maniac, and bike like there's no tomorrow. You don't have to save anything for the run. It's LIBERATING!!! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Two inches difference? Wow! If you get that fixed you will be running 7 minute miles. I have heard of 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch differences but 2 inches must be a new world record! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've done my indoor tri as a way to tell me what training I haven't done over the winter. I learned that my swim still extremely slow (this would improve if I would actually get to the pool) and my bike is horrible. Now that I have a new road bike I hope to be on it a lot more and to have a better time than on my mountain bike. I am planning on doing Evergreen Oly this summer and hopefully Naperville again! Need to see how Naperville falls into summer activities. School ends for the semester the weekend of Mother's Day--YEAH!!!! I student teach in the fall and graduate in December. I'm going to throw myself a party and you are all invited! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone still around? I got my cholesterol levels, and they are through the roof (but my HDL is good) so i need to get motivated. If this group is defunct, I hope no one is offended if I try to join another group. Thanks, Nancy |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I wouldn't go so far as to say defunct, but we have definitely not been as active as we have been in the past. How's everything else, Nancy? I checked in on your logs some time ago, but it was blank...
