Excellent Swim, Nicole!  I've been concentrating just on running to get ready for my half marathon, as running was my weakest sport. I can't wait to get back to swimming and biking! I just hope I haven't fallen too far behind.

Have a great day, everyone!

Try to take it all in stride and stay focused and flexible. It's important to not let these sorts of things keep you from achieving your goal.

Hey Rodney,

What's happened to you? I don't see you posting any workouts? Have your family duties got you too busy to train? I hope you can carve out some time for yourself!

well it ended up a good race day . the worst thing was the wind it never let up at all and made things tough in parts . like the last 3 miles it was head on . people were in packs like on a nascar track the whole race .
but i guess the best part of the day was i dropped 7min off my PR ! finished at 1:31:35 . and i beat that guy who had been talking a lot of crap on how he was gonna beat me . he found me first thing soon as i got to the race and started in but the funny thing was i looked for him after the race and he was no place to be found !
so hows everyones training going ?

Congratulations, Mac! Glad to hear the race went so well, even with the weather and having to work. Awesome Job!

How was your 5 miler Sarah?

I'm back in Kalispell, and ready to get back to my normal routine. We had a big snow storm this weekend, so it looks like it's going to be the indoor track for awhile. We've got about 12 inches of snow on the ground. I also gained some weight while out of town, so it's time to get serious about watching my calorie intake. It sure isn't difficult to put it back on.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Roni

Nice race Mac! Send me some of that mojo!

Roni -- let's keep each other inspired over the next few weeks. I went on a cookie binge this weekend and am up to 175.5lb. Ack!!

I did not do the 5-miler this weekend. I ran a little while on Saturday and the knee throbbed a bit. This morning I did 3 miles and they are okay, but not fabulous. Even worse, whatever crap was trying to kick my butt the last couple of weeks has caught up with me. My tonsils are swollen, my ears are infected, and I have a fever of over 100. I probably shouldn't have ran this morning, but I figured since I was awake... On the upside, I now have a plan of attack for Sunday. I can run a 12min pace pretty easily and my knee doesn't usually show it's fangs until 3 miles of solid running. So I will run 12 minutes, walk for a minute, run another mile, etc. It's going to be a long day, but I will finish. Even if it takes me 4 hours.

I have the day off work so am headed for a hot bath and then to bed. Sorry to be such a downer!

Did everyone else have good weekends? What's on tap for the week?

I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family. A little bit of training should help to keep you sane during a difficult time. You'll definitely be able to get in some cold weather runs; my run this morning was at 21 degrees.

Take care.

Nice race Mac, sorry to hear about the death.

I have been buisy and out of town some. It has been around neg 5 F in the am here with a daytime high of oh mid 20s with about a foot of snow on the ground and ice everywhere.

I am at about 94 miles run this month, 200 miles biked and last week was a recovery week. It is time to order new shoes, I have to tweek the seat on my bike prolby 1/4 inch to try to find the right spot, I think it is off slightly and causing some slight knee overuse.

I am not sure about events, but may do a 10 event in Redding on 3/1 and was hoping to do a half mary later in march, though I have to see how my body holds up to increasing the milage again.

I had to cut back on my distnace some, but hopefuly I can tweek my long runs back up. Been doing 3 10ks per week, 3 25 mile bike/tainer rides and lifting well I fell off on that, but back in to 3 hours of lifting a week. I hope to get back into a longer run once a week (10 ish) anda longer ride (40 ish). I have been changing elevation too much and it thwacks my endurance at the higher elevation. Oh well, nothing to be done about it.

My wife made pizza lastnight and I just had to eat it hot out of the oven. 2 hours 45 min later I had to get my workout in, was not enough time. No more eatting before I run! Oh well finished the workout at Midnight and have to get back to work here. Catchya all on the flipside, 25 mile bike tonight.

Wow, that's quite a workout schedule. How do you find the time for all of that? Do you schedule in rest days and easy weeks?

Sorry for your loss, Mac

I love your idea of having to run double to make up for treats. I'm definitely going to start using this!

Oh, and talking temps we're in a deep freeze here. High today was 12, Monday's low was -13 without the wind chill and yes that's fahrenheit. I've been running indoors, but I'm not sure what to do about my long run on Saturday. The idea of doing 2 1/2 hours on the treadmill or indoor track is dreadful.

Sarah, how are you doing? I hope you're recovering well.

Take care everyone, and happy training!

Roni

Been really finding it hard to get going.  am  work on changing that. I done  a little more reading into bmi and body fat and such...I am pleased to know I am not morbidly obese..as some site have said I am. I am in fact pretty fit not that I could not stand to loss 25kg. I put on easy and have a lot of muscle mass not the best for this sport but I do still plan to train and do this race.  My food has been great which is something I am thankful for. I finally got the sleeping though the night thing down a glass of warm milk and a banana right at bed time and I been sleeping 7 hours.

I am sorry to hear about your loss...

hope every one stays or get health and good training

Mac, welcome to the Mid-Atlantic cold. This weekend is particularly cold. Glad you are enjoying the hills, too.

I'm heading out very soon for a bike ride. It's currently still under 30 degrees, which will make this the coldest ride I've ever done. Gonna give those chemical hand and toe warmers a try.

I got out for 24+ miles. It was my coldest ride ever; 30 when I left, 33 when I returned. I was dressed well and was never too cold.

2 layers of SmartWool socks+chemical toe warmers+Lake winter bike boots=happy toes.

Warmers in my gloves kept my fingers mostly warm.

Had to stop twice to adjust the saddle because I was slipping off the front. I'm not sure this is the right saddle for me.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that...I FINISHED!!! I had a fantastic friend that ran with me the whole way and offered lots of encouragement when I wanted to quit. I didn't have to walk at all, but I was pretty dang slow. Just under 3 hours, but hey, I got the same medal as everyone else. :-) I'm too tired to get a race report up, but maybe tomorrow. Right after I make an appointment for the knee... Haha. Thanks for all of your good wishes, you all are great inspiration!
G'night,
Sarah
