turns out it was the brake.  so i replaced that and it seems i'm good to go.  the only pain was fishing the cable through the aero bars.  i put a hangar through first.  then tied fishing line to that.  then the cable to that.  took all of about 20 minutes.  then i could slip the housing over that and pull the cable back out in order to cut it to the right length and put it through the handle.

replacing the brake itself took about two minutes.

picked up a chain tool today so will get to the chain tomorrow.

lol.  saved a bunch of money and learned more about the bike.  if i can do it so can you!

Wow!! Impressed with your bike prowess, Fats! Me, I tweaked a wheel in my graceful T2 fall yesterday -- or tweaked something. Took bike to the LBS and he fixed it for now (easy fix, just dropping wheel down a bit) and tightened up both sets of brakes. Likely rear wheel is now out of true, but they were swamped today, so I'll ride it on Monday or Tuesday and take it back later in the week when they are less busy to true the wheel. Bonehead move.

For those of you who read the RR (which describes above bonehead move of trying to stop my Garmin and falling over onto my bike -- post dismount, inside of transition, in the mud) and asked to see pictures of my cut... Well, OK. Yes, it is right below my @$$ but my hubby snapped a photo that I cropped to make it look as, um, "medical" as possible. Not sure if I have sized it right but am trying to attach it here for your viewing pleasure. Nice, huh? I didn't even know I had this until my son asked at the pool, "Mom, what are all those weird red marks on your leg?"

Hi guys!

Just reporting back from my Tri for Real Oly today.  Turns out I snagged 4th in AG and p.r'ed the race by 4 minutes or so.  2:45:xx!  Very excited as my bike average was over 20mph for the out and back.  Swim was similar to last year 36:xx or so, which is slow for some of you fasties, but a very nice time for me considering I had some trouble sighting the 2nd big buoy, it was white and right in the sun...should've worn my mirrored goggles!

Run was 8:10 mile pace which on this run which is a hilly trail run, I was super stoked about!  Will do rr when race results come out.  Foolishly, I thought I stopped my bike computer but didn't so it kept running for 2+ hours!!! Darn it.

I am going to use my 34:20 for the first 12 miles of the bike.  hehehe

Over a 20mph average?! Awesome, Kim!! Great work all the way around!! A hilly run must have been, um, fun on those bike legs. Clearly they are super strong with lots of endurance in there. You rocked it!!

Oh, Kyla, I am ROFLMAO!  So I did exactly what you should have done...I wasn't sure if I actually turned it off while I came to the dismount (I hit it, but I didn't hear anything), so I ran it over to my rack and then while switching shoes, just said f'it, if I didn't do it, it has auto pause (which I forgot to set)...so I get back to my bike and it says 2:05 and running or whatever it was after the run!  Stupid, but uh, at least I don't have an imprint of my cassette teeth on my a$$!!!!

Awwww, loves me my MG gals who got my back.

I wear my pale skin proudly. Can't help it if the sun doesn't shine here -- it doesn't stop me from getting out there and getting 'er done, does it?!

Wow...the mg had an awesome weekend.  Congrats to all the racers.  You all kicked a$$!

I am recovering from a weekend of too little sleep, too much food, a lot of cold water, and just the right number of beers!

Wife completed her first tri today.  Was pouring all morning but only rained a little during the race.  She struggled with the swim but got a little more relaxed half way through it and really enjoyed the bike and run.  Don't have any times yet but she was somewhere around 1:45 (750 meters, 13.8 miles, 5K) and really happy with that.  We now have another triathlete in the family (and an addicted one at that!).

Kyla, maybe if you dropped trow a little more often instead of doing the slide, you could get some more sun there!

velcromom - 2010-06-05 10:10 PM Nice job, racers!!!  Gotta love the podiums. Kyla, find the hardware.

Last hard ride today.....68 miles, but over 8000 feet of climbing.  Tunitas Creek, Old La Honda, Alpine Rd. - Tour de California roads!  almost 3 mile run/brick.  That hurt, it was close to 90 today.  Bit of a sunburn!  Long run tomorrow, then it's TAPER TIME!!!!!

Tail end of the bike, got a call.  Son took off his car's front bumper on his sister's (parked) car.  (Correction, they are both OUR cars.)   Is SURE that it is her fault.  Somehow.  Gotta love teenagers.

Linda, this is a great ride!  I did it before my HIM last summer as one of my last long rides...but I only had 60 miles total.  Can I hit you up for a  route map?  Am thinking of doing Old La Honda/Tunitas Creek again on my next 3.5-4.0 hour ride.  So Beautiful!!!  Great job, enjoy your taper!

Hey, Kim.  Happy to share.  We went with friends so we looped (50) from the Saloon parking lot, then we added on 18 up Alpine - way more climbing than we expected at the end, but gorgeous, quiet and a fun downhill!  We usually leave from Bicycle Outfitters, and that's an 80 mile loop.

Do you stop for artichoke bread?

Spent 2.5 hours this afternoon at the the LBS where they had to FIX their tune-up.  Had to do mid-ride repairs on the shifters yesterday.  Really thinking it's time that I learned some basic repair stuff, outside of changing a flat!  John, you could lead a course!!

Congrats to all of the racers.....what a weekend!

Hey everyone! I don't have time to go back and read all of the last few pages right now, but I wanted to let you know that I am OK. I'm only a little bit bummed about my crash and burn this morning, which wasn't quite as horrific as it looks from my splits (below). I knew that my time goal was ambitious, especially after some problems late in training, but I went for it knowing it might not turn out so well. I was right on goal pace until about mile 21, and then the wheels started coming off pretty fast. This is about the time I saw a runner down and being treated by medical staff. It was getting pretty warm out there with unusual humidity and no shade. I thought to myself that this wasn't worth getting hurt over, so I just listened to my body and went with the crash.

As I shuffled along, realizing that it was going to be tough to make my B goal (PR), I saw a runner by the side of the path who was clearly in distress. He had one guy with him and another running off to get medical staff. It was a no-brainer - I stopped to help until medical arrived, which took a disturbingly long time. I don't know how things ended up for the guy, I hope he was okay. Once medical arrived, I was able to run the last 1.5 at a more reasonable pace and finish with a smile on my face - hard not to do when they're blasting "Eye of the Tiger"!

Thanks everyone for the inspires and for tracking me - it was incredibly motivating to know that you'd be tracking my splits!

Hi gang - Congrats to everyone on their personal accomplishments, PRs and podium finishes.  Life has been a litte crazy for us lately so I haven't had much time to post.  :-

Hopefully Tony and I can get to the 5k tomorrow.  It's the same race that I did last year in the high heat of August.  So same course but earlier in the year and the weather is supposed to be lovely.  Maybe a 5k PR!
