kkcbelle - 2011-07-19 5:19 PM  ETA: BTW, let's talk porta-potties at IMs. I can handle plenty of grossness, and I can pee squatting, if need be, over gross seats. But when you stop during a 13-hour race, sometimes those quads are a bit shaky when you are squatting over a toilet. I don't know what the hell the other sex does in there, but IM porta potties are a MESS!!! At my last stop on the bike this past year, I literally asked the men coming out if they turned circles around inside while they pee. It's EVERYWHERE. How hard is it to point your business into the provided urinal?? Good grief!! We ladies can't pee into that mounted urinal no matter how hard we try. For us, please keep the seat clean! Trevor, if you need to use the porta-potty at IMC, think of the poor women using it after you.

I thought that was a purse holder!!  Laughing

nope.  purse holder = spouse!

True story: At a dog show once, an elderly lady came up to the super and complained, in all sincerity, that someone had urinated in the purse holder. Oh dear.

George, why don't you explain to your colleagues how you choose to relieve yourself in races? Better yet, explain to us here. Why is it the ladies (well, really, just Kim) who are always describing the vivid details of this?

Feeling like it's happy hour. Wish I had some company besides my kids (hubs on the road)...

Okay, I am ROTFLMAO as quietly as possible...as my dilating (no, not that kind of dilation!) patient is sitting in the other room probably wondering what sinister things I am plotting next!

Purse holder???  That was hilarious, Dino!  But more hilarious is Kyla's senior friend at the dog show!  There was a news feature a few years back that showed that the bottom of womens' purses were some of the absolutely dirtiest, most bacteria laden things out there.  UGH!!!  Maybe Suzy should also have a policy where all purses are put into an auto-clave unit!  With my shoes of course.

I won't explain it to them but for you...I pulled off the peeing while swimming thing about 400 yards from the swim finish. Took a little concentration but was in a groove at that point. No pee on bike. Used porta potty after leaving t2 before starting the run. Didn't pee after that until around 7. Not sure if my scale was right yesterday morning but it said I was 9.5 lbs lighter than race morning.

That was very entertaining and educational.   I don't understand why the areas around urinals get so messy.  It is a constant problem at my health club - either those guys can't shoot straight or they're trying too hard and creating a lot of splatter (but that's just like peeing on your own legs).

Love the "purse holder" story.  It reminds me of my favorite urinal story.  This happened about 12-15 years ago.  I was in Tokyo and coming home pretty late after having dinner and a few brews with friends.   I had to change trains at a fairly large train station and decided to make a pit stop.  The urinals in this particular station were the wall mount units that go all the way down to floor level and then have a trough that is slightly below floor level.   Anyway, some young guy must have gotten too drunk and passed out.   His friends had wedged one end of his briefcase into the urinal and then laid him out with his head resting on the other end of the briefcase.   He was wearing a suit and tie and looked like he had been laid out in a funeral home.    It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.   Unfortunately it was pre camera phone days and I did not get a pic of it.

Lots of fascinating (???) information re: urinating etc, I'll never be able to look at female triathletes the same way again!

I have to ask, don't your shorts/knicks stink after a while on the run?

Anyway, glad it works for you...

I'm having a "recovery week" which really means I'm avoiding any exercise in the vain hope that my knee will settle down and won't turn out to be anything serious. So far, so good; I couldn't weight bear on Monday but I can almost walk without a limp today. I think I'll avoid running for 2 weeks and just do swimming and cycling next week.

It's a new day and time to start talking about something other than peeing your pants and letting it dribble/gush down your leg!

Let's talk RACING!  Who's in? if you're willing to spill your goals, we're listening!

PS. Note the apostrophes!

No racing for me, we're leaving to go camping on Sunday (just in time for the midwest heatwave to hit the east coast) then to the beach for the rest of the week.

No racing for me this weekend.  Like Tony said - camping and the beach.

And I was all proud of myself for perfecting snot rockets while running and biking this year.  Looks like I have a new skill to work on.  Or maybe not - I'm afraid if I start there will be no turning back.

Good luck Linda and to your daughter.  I'm a little bummed that we are missing Hagerstown.  It was my first tri and I've done the race every year since they started.  I hope you are going off early.  :-)

This is too funny.  Tony sent me this link to a new tri series forming.

http://www.slowtwitch.com/Interview/HITS_has_horsepower_2208.html

I am very familiar with Tom Struzzieri as I spent many years at his shows in Florida in the winter and Virginia in the summer.  He puts on a good horse show so it will be interesting to see what he does w/ a tri.  He is a super organizer and knows how to cater to the clientele.  And a bonus that is a triathlete himself.

Also nice to see more options popping up to compete w/ IM.  I think they need a little cage rattling to keep improving.  And there will more opportunities to sign up for races instead of camping by your computer.

It'll be interesting to see if they can pull it off.  There are two venues that are of interest to me, Galena and Cable although the timing is not great if IM WI is on the schedule.  I can see testing the waters with an Oly for sure--maybe an MG event?

So this morning I heard the noise no biker likes to hear-screeching tires and locked brakes.  Somehow I managed to unclip and stay nearly upright as I headed into the grassy ditch.  Wrenched my right knee a little and nearly peed my pants from sheer fright (but then I remembered pee on my seat is not an option).  Girl decided it was more important to try to pass me on a hill as a gravel truck was coming the other way.   She quickly decided against it.  Really getting sick of the drivers in this city, especially since I am so careful not to pi$$ them off.

We're off to Minocqua for the weekend where the roads are pristine and the drivers are not impatient buttheads.

thats cool and i hope it works.  15% military discount is so f'ing awesome!!!!!  and it appears he did not overlook something that so many do... you have to have a military ID, NOT an active duty ID.  in a day and age when such a huge percentage of members of the reserve and national guard are out there serving right along side active duty members in these bullsh+t wars, well this is AWESOME!!!!

looks like he's going up against wtc directly in some locations.  good.  and so cal is cool.  marble falls is very cool.

having said that, a brief review of the pricing structure still shows wtc lower than them (and REV3).  i always found that argument funny from the wtc bashers.

I'm racing this weekend.  Well sort of.  I'm doing the 2 mile swim Doug is volunteering at - see you there Doug!!!  Then I have a 100 mile bike ride and 2 mile run immediately afterwards.  Hope I don't  melt.  I like the idea of freezing the water bottles - I"ll try that this weekend.  I'm also going to skip any liquid nutrition and stick to water while increasing my gel intake to compensate.

Speaking of peeing (and for once it wasn't me who started the conversation) I would be very grateful Trevor if you didn't pee on the seats at IMCA!!   I have a friend who raced Placid and actually had a lady complain that the men were peeing on the outside of the port a potties in the grass.  She said that wasn't fair.  Only when the men pointed out the port a potty was left empty for the women by the men peeing outside did she realize that was a good idea.  Personally I have no problem with dropping trow in the bushes (or side of the road for that matter) if the port a potties are full.

Second peeing point,  I would encourage everyone to practice peeing while swimming.  It is rather difficult to do.  However if you can get a good pee in the last 500 yards of the swim it makes the bike ride so much more comfortable.  CAUTION ON DRAFTING ME IN THE SWIM TREVOR!!  Wink

i think so.  its in the heart of the texas hill country.  ~40 minutes from austin.  many would consider it the nicest part of texas.  life slows down there.  and you can probably go know on lance's door and ask him if you could go for a dip in his lake.

Virtually Totally untrelated to tris: So the people including my coach in my Monday running group are dog people. Tassie (Marty's dog) often runs with us. So they are talking about the thunder storms we had last week and how the dogs were scared. Samantha says that she has had good results with something called a thundershirt, which is supposed to help keep dogs calm. I thought the name was a cute take on undershirt and thunder.

Hearing this my mind does its normal weird flip and I ask "Is that like a woof-beater?" Except for my coach Marty, who said "did you just come up with that?" I got absolutely no response. Come on! That was one of the best puns I have ever come up with! Maybe I should have started singing the theme to cops..."Bad dog, bad dog, what you gonna do..."

(And yes my humor is a slightly skewed.)
