Fu$k you.

But at least it does a good job of illustrating the issue.    I look much better now, especially with my new short hair cut!

Suzy: nice to have you back.  The salt/kidney stuff sounds pretty dangerous.   I am glad you figured out what was going wrong.     I recall that you justified your salt supplements because of meds you are taking.   There are a couple Science of Sport articles series that are worth reading if you (i.e., anyone considering salt) are considering salt supplements.    I know there are lots of folks including some pros who insist taking salt keeps them in the race, but research so far doesn't support that.

Anyway, the "Exercise and Dehydration" series and the "Muscle Cramps" series are worth a read.   I would start with the first two articles in the Muscle Cramps series.

Who's racing this weekend, goals, strategies!?!?

While some of us are already in the off-season and others are a couple weeks from their A race, most of us have, at some time, had a race they were disappointed in. What strategies have you used to pick yourselves up and get back in the game?

I'm doing a 15k trail race with hubby in West Lafayette on Sunday.  Need to see what Julia is up to.  I'll be in her neck of the woods!

If I'm disappointed on race day, I try to remind myself that happens.  It's just one blip in the big picture and there were a lot of good training days before and there will be many more after.  I also take comfort in the fact that you all understand about the good days and bad days, and you love me anyway Kiss

Jayne! That's so cool! PM sent!

ETA: my avatar pic is from the Heritage Trail half in 2010! Where I smoked the field and won the 1/2 marathon race!!  It should not be quite as muddy this weekend.

Alway been a Blackberry guy. Work provides it.

For some reason, I got caught up in the hype and picked up the Iphone 5 yesterday for my own 'personal' use.

I wanted to clarify one thing, I did not use the NA load to prevent cramping.  Sodium has the ability to increase blood plasma and allows you to reduce dehydration (done properly).  I've not ever had cramping issues during IM.

For those of you who are working to perfect the flying dismount/mount (very useful for quick transitions and cyclocross) watch this video.  I had to watch it several times to even see the bike exchange happen!

Watch as former World Junior Cyclocross Champ (Quentin J.) makes a bike-change in the middle of a ROAD race. **(Remember, those are road shoes/cleats he's wearing.....not cx.

Gear question:  I have a 2XU transition bag that is falling apart.  Not very happy with the product quality but that's a side note.  Anyone have a brand of trasition gear bag they use and like?  I'm trying to get away from my standard gym bag b/c it isn't large enough and I end up with several smaller bags + my gym bag all cluttering my car.    My Doug uses a TYR bag that seems pretty good but wondering if there were other recommendations from the team.

No, after the $600+ on IMCA race kit, finishers jackets, t-shirts, hats and wind vest I decided to exercise a little restraint.  Undecided

I like my TYR transition bag, it's very handy with lots of compartments and a wet section for wetsuit, towels, etc.  Very reasonable especially if you can find a discount coupon...fall/winter they always do a 40% off promotion, so you can end up paying only 40-50 bucks for the bag.

I also have a Speedo backpack that I love, $48 at Swim outlet, it comes in my favorite orange, but I don't use it as a T bag, more to shlep to the pool and it also has the wet area with lots of nice compartments.

Another CX race for me on Saturday.  Back to the normal WI scene which means backs to the starting line with some "Expectations."  I have been happy with my start to the season, now I just need to keep it rolling through October!

To all our racers this weekend ........  REPRESENT!!!

I also use a TYR backpack bag for all my racing.  I have been very happy with the bag although it can be a little large for running to the pool.  (Back when I did that sort of thing!  Foot in mouth

Jayne,  I have a long and proud history of peeing in the wetsuit.  I call it "turning on my personal water heater."

Roni - so scary about Jason.  All my fingers and toes crossed.

Doug - MN?!!?  WTH?  You can't leave me!!!

Sounds like people are rocking as usual.  More marathons, sprints, cross races, hard core!    Keep it up!!

2nd interview down and it looks good so far. I am posting this in response to Tracy just to let her know that this job is here in Raleigh and is almost the same commute I have now. They want me to come in for an in person interview!

Very glad you are ok. I think that was a very worthwhile post to make here to the MG. Nobody knows everything and we all respond differently.

I have  Rocket Science transition bag -- it's old, can't find a comparable one online. I love it. Huge, zip-off bottom can be separate pack, wetsuit storage. I use it for my pool bag when I'm not racing (holds fins/pull buoy), and it's an awesome scuba backpack when Dave and I travel.
