So, sitting here drinking my Decaf Chai tea, and eating eggs with black beans, mushrooms, onion and salsa.

Doing some sort of week long cleanse diet with Sam, no Dairy, no Caffine, no Sugar, for some reason oatmeal is off the list also.

Mixed nuts, Bananna for snacks today.  Chili for lunch, Looks like Salmon and fennel with roasted lemon vinaigrette for dinner(magazine article sitting out on the counter)

Making me re-do breakfast, normally oatmeal with stuff in it, snacks, normally cliff bar, and lunch, normally some sort of frozen kashi type lunch.

Should be interesting.

Is this by chance the reset I did a last week?  Sounds oddly familiar.....Sprouted Grains are ok too.  I fell in love with Food for Life English Muffins with a sniff of ghee.  New pre work out food has worked well so far.

Yeah I think Sam said she got it from you.

Doing ok but think I am having some caffine withdrawal right now and it's only been 2 meals and a snack so far.

I actually crave spinach daily, kind of weird, so I do eat it every day as a salad. I rarely eat red meat so I guess the body is saying, "Give me iron!".

Interesting about Advil. I take Alleve, but not too often. Recently I have been reading that we should not take anti-inflamatories after races or workouts, just let the body's immune system work against the inflamation.

Got done with the bulk of my taxes and find us way too far down the page.

How's everyone today?  I have planned my VO2 bike workout to coincide with the Stanford women's game tonite.  Gonzaga is going to be hard to beat, their point guard is amazing!

Suzy, Sam and Tony, are you giving up caffeine and alcohol on this change in diet?  Is there any way to get oneself alkaline without giving up those two things?

I looked at our sourdough bread this morning and it says Sprouted Wheat Sourdough.  I am thinking that it is a good thing.  Off to the dentist!

Yes, you can definitely move towards the alkaline side without giving up either.  I'm done with the reset Sam/Tony are enjoying so I do enjoy a morning cup of java and an occasional glass of wine.  The real key is ingesting a lot of foods that fall on the alkaline side which means quite a few vegetables and most fruits.  Based on what I know of your diet, I wouldn't be surprised if you are already there....if you want me to send you the list, I will.

PS. Of couse, I know you won't be making any changes until after Boston.  Things have been going so well for you thus far, NO ALTERATIONS!

Hi gang - yes there will be 4 of us in TN.  Drew is very excited about thekids race on Sat.  I think we have finally figured out what we are doing to.   Julia - our kids are 7 and 5.  Make sure to pack swim suits esp. if the weather is warm enough b/c there are water/spray fountains for the kids to play in right at the finish line.

On another note - this "reset" thing sucks a$s.  I'm sure Tony would agree.  We are both having major caffiene withdrawal.  We also both drink way too much caffiene and for as long as we can both remember.  I kind miss other foods but it's the caffiene that is really getting us.  I'm hoping another day or so and it will pass.  Of course, we may kill each other first.  Tongue out

3 things:

1) I'm super jealous of you guys all getting to go to the same race.  It sounds like a blast!  I wish I could be there!

2) My parents came up to visit Ryan and me yesterday, and they took us out to eat at Maggiano's.  If any of you have one near you, you should go and eat the family style.  I was so full after eating yesterday at like 5pm that I wasn't hungry until noon today, I slept like I had a food coma last night, and I have leftovers for a month!  I know where I'm going to carbo-load before races now.

3) I made one of the toughest decisions today, and it's been really hard on me.  I'm selling my bib for the half-mary.  Luckily, Ryan's cousin decided she wanted to do the race like yesterday, so I figured I might as well just sell it to her now instead of holding onto it and trying to get rid of it at the last minute if I still feel hurt.  I'm VERY frustrated.

That is all, back to work!

Suzy, thank you for the info. on Reset.  I think the alkaline vs. acidic food very interesting concerning inflamation.  Looking at the food list there are some surprises too...like bananas. Bananas are my pre and post workout food of choice but they are high in sugar too.  The current diet of most people contains a lot of refined carbs and that puts the body in a more acidic state which is hard for the metabolism to keep neutral. It is not easy to eliminate all of those "convenient" items, but worth it to try to cut some out gradually. BTW those Food for Life muffins look really good.

Linda

Personally, I wouldn't eliminate bananas if they are a good digestable food for you.  I would shoot for a variety of fruits and vegetables to nail all key nutrients.  If you want to get into an alkaline state on a regular basis eat spinach daily.  It works well for me--smoothies, salads and steamed.  PH paper will tell you if you're there.

PS. Advil is very acidic....not sure you take it, but a lot of my friends do.  They call it Vitamin I.

I only take Advil when I have a severe headache.  I *never* use it during exercise or cycling.  A cycling friend has warned me about how Advil can really wreck havoc on your kidneys when you're cycling. Has to do with metabolism or something of the sort.   So since she told me about it, I don't take it.

Awesome today!!  Got to play video games that has been collecting dust for the last 11 weeks due to school.  Nice to get a break!   Went out for my 30 minute run and TOTALLY felt awesome and fantastic throughout. Not once I felt like I was too "tired". Just wanted to toot my own horn.

Oh yeah - Happy 12th Birthday to my oldest cat, Mocha.  (She's 65 in human years!)

I feel your pain. I gave my entry to Rev3 to Tracy due to other responsibilities. So I do not get to do the race or meet the MG gang. We will get through this.

Hey guys,  I am hating the thought of pulling out of the Knoxville race, cause I was really wanting to meet you guys and hang out for the weekend.  It basically comes down to the almighty dollar.  The Gulf Coast HIM is May the 7th, so I feel like it could be a several hundred dollar swing to go there as we have a condo right by the start line, so there will be no room costs etc.

I know you guys will have a blast.  I am sure it will still be fun even without me

I'm here.  No workout yet today.  Still pretty sore from the workout with my trainer (USAT coach) last night.  Did a lot of core and kettle bell work, and this morning I am happily sore all over.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I met Marmadaddy at the Multisport World Expo last weekend.  Very nice guy, and enjoyed talking with him about his tri experiences.

I'm here also, my headache is finally going away.  Funny my mind isn't craving coffee, but my body seems to be.

Suzy any breakfast and snack ideas on this cleanse?  Really missing my oatmeal and clif bars.

For Rev3 we are getting a house so maybe if dinner out doesn't work we can make something there.

Also for anyone interested in mental prep I found this site.

He writes for pezcyclingnews a cycling website.  He writes a mental prep. article there and his site has links to all the articles.  LOL, I keep reading stuff like this because my mind agrees with my body too often when I start to suffer I shut it down real quick, so looking for ways to help my mind cope a bit longer before giving in.

Agree.  Felt a little pathetic, to be honest.  Went with my youngest after church at 1030, and was back in the car to leave by 11.

dalessit - 2011-03-29 10:46 AMI keep reading stuff like this because my mind agrees with my body too often when I start to suffer I shut it down real quick, so looking for ways to help my mind cope a bit longer before giving in.

ya know its funny.  i've been thinking about the 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago a bit lately, in particular the first 2 miles and the last mile.  i don't usually run with any type of watch (shut up suzy).  so on flat courses i have a pretty good gauge of my pace.  not hilly ones though. so i was in no mans land that day, just decided to feel pretty good until later in the race then decide what to do.

well what happened was i almost felt bad for the first 1/2 mile or so because everyone was passing me like i was a standing still... were all these people thinking  ahh there's a jerk that put down a wrong time to get in a forward corral.  then i remembered something,  this is a freaking 13.1 mile race, not a race to the the first mile marker.  and then i started smiling thinking to myself see you suckers in about 10 miles.  and then, keeping in mind i was totally unfamiliar with the course, i realized we had been running downhill for quite sometime.  THEN i started the smack talk becasue i knew what was going on... most of these people ain't pacing this right and are gonna blow.

if you read some of the race reports or talk over in the GA forum you'll read things about the climb out of peidmont park late in the race was like a walking dead zone.  so many people were cooked.  not me man, i was easily on the fastest pace of the day.

anyways, my point in all this is sometimes its good to have a reminder that perhaps pace drives some of these hurdles more than anything else. so maybe you just need to slow down to go faster.

Hello - just got back from a nice little run through the Cherry Blossom Trees.  They are not quite in peak form yet so next week should be quite lovely.  NOw if I can only figure out how to get rid of the tourists!

And I am feeling slightly better.  Aleve helps!  I have been too miserable to crave anything.  I pretty much want to curl up and die.  Wow - I think I really do have a caffiene issue.  Of course after this week or two, I feel like now what?  I don't want to chuck everything back out the window but I'm not sure I can do just one cup a day plus there are other caffiene foods that I enjoy like dark chocolate and tea.

So that will be the next step planning all of that out.  I really wanted to get a grip on my sugar eating of late and that is tied to my coffee b/c I can't drink it straight.  Anyway I hope to wake tomorrow feeling like a new person or at least a person w/o a giant sized headache.
