So 2013 World Masters Top 10 rankings are posted.

4th 35-39 1500 Free (2014 time was 14 seconds faster...)
9th 35-39 200 Fly (2014 time was 1.8 seconds faster ... )

My 800 time in 2014 should also make top 10 as well.

Sigh. Just slow thrashing around here. 3,000m for total of 97,850m. Will probably swim tomorrow--I don't usually but my Saturday swim is nixed due to a meet at the school pool, and gym pool is closed for repairs--and that should get me to 100,000m. A "ladder" of 275-250....on down to 25. No idea how to calculate the rest on something like this. I just did 45-ish seconds on the longer stuff, and 30 on the shorter. Felt yuck the whole time. Not sure why. Fine biking yesterday and had a good swim on Saturday but lungs just didn't have it today. Have some work to do but really just want to go to bed (@7:40 PM!)

swam 2500 today. First hard swim post sinus surgery and felt GREAT (finally). Was able to do my 10X25 really fast and could have swam a lot longer had I not ran out of pool time again.

At 60,000 yards. So, probably won't make it but still going to plug away at it!

Hey, someone said they raced. How was the race?

I had two races last weekend, a duathlon Saturday (5k,15mile, 5k) and a sprint tri Sunday (440m, 22km, 5k).

I won overall in the duathlon (my first overall ever), and I placed 16th overall and won my AG in the sprint.  The highlight of the sprint was having the 10th fastest swim in the field.  It's nice to see my swim turning into a weapon.

Whoo hoo! Congrats to you! That is AWESOME! Sounds like you are off to a great 2014 racing season! And, you were racing back-to-back days which is just crazy anyway. Way to go!

Congrats on the races! Cracked 100,000m today with 100,300m. Included a 30 minute swim--the goal was to see how far you can swim but I managed to mess up the count by 50. 1700m? 1750? One of those! Grrr....Whatever it was, it was exact, I was flipping at the wall and my watch alarm went off! Fortunately felt better today than yesterday after about ten hours of sleep last night.

Nice going! Managed to get over 16,000 yds last week even with the meet in there. Bo showed with his too, but mine was also ~8,100 over the 3 days of the meet. I probably could have done a little more towards the warmup and cool-down too.

Another 3000m for 103,350. Can't swim Saturday due to all-day kids' meet so got my swims in Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Main sets 10 X 100m (easy/build/easy/hard by 25m), 16 X 50m descend 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16. Got bored of all the freestyle I've done this week so did four of each stroke, IM order. Broke 50s on the last fly--Bo don't laugh. I could go faster breathing every 2 strokes but ventilation not great today and lungs not up for that. My arms are tired!

71500y.

I hate it when I'm the only person in either of the two pools at the Y. For some reason, it just makes me want to get out. Can't get through my workout fast enough at that point.

I LOVE being the only one in the pool. That used to be the case most of the time at our school, but now faculty swim shares the pool with HS swim practice (most kids train in the AM, so numbers aren't huge, but still adds a lot of splash) and recently a learn-to-swim class for local staff as well. For some reason, many of the latter seem to think swimming involves beating the water as hard as possible. There's so much splashing it's often like OWS.
On the plus side, this arrangement allows me 1:30 to train instead of the previous 45-50 minutes, and the coach gives me a lane to myself since I'm usually doing longer sets than the HS kids, who don't race over 200m, so I'm not complaining.

On Saturday I often have the place to myself for my longest workouts--have done as much as 4000m solo. It helps to plan a workout in advance and separate it into different sets; save the stuff you like most (in my case, IM's--I get bored with those big distance free sets that seem to be in all tri plans) for the later stages when motivation starts to flag.

Another 3,000m today for 106,350m. Mostly easy stuff today as my lungs were not happy after yesterday's ride. I'm more prone to asthma issues after I've had a cold or flu and between that, pollen, field burning, and traffic, thought I would die if I did anything more vigorous than Zone 2-type efforts! Actually felt better during/after swimming--hope that keeps up as the last few days have been miserable. I'm fine during the workout--supposedly it actually dilates your bronchial tubes if you don't have EIA, but, then start wheezing and hacking afterwards and at night. Ugh!

You are all amazing. Now, tell me this...how many miles are you crazies running and biking every week too right now? This mileage on the swimming alone seems long, but adding in two other sports. WOW! Can't wait to hear more about what you do for triathlon!

Okay, so piddly me...I am at 67, 118 meters and recovering well from sinus surgery. I have to go in for chemical cauterization on Thursday so no idea
if that means I cannot swim that day or Friday. Will find out soon enough. Had a TOUGH 2800 meter swim yesterday with a friend that is trying to qualify for Olympic Worlds. She is pretty amazing, too. Swam it in 51:00 and that included ALL rest breaks. I think that's fast for me. I AM NOT FAST!!!! Keep that in mind!

Happy swimming.

Not running and riding a ton (based on last seasons Ironman build up) but the legs are coming along nicely. I have a 5k race coming up in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed for sub 20.

FYI

My 5k PR in the pool (LCM) is 57 minutes. 1999 Cdn OW Trials in Montreal. They did not want to take any OW swimmers so the standard was set at 53.40 as they knew no one would make it.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
