Some amazing stories as always, I can't even imagine the emotional overload just from being there. I was able to watch. Some very inspirational stories. When the dude missed the swim cutoff by 7 seconds my eyes started making this strange, watery discharge. Not sure what that was about! I didn't realize how close Lieto was to the finish when Alexander passed him. That had to suck huge. |

![]() | ![]() Yeah some great stories and tear jerking potential for sure! Great racing! I can't imagine how the pros go like that for that long! Crazy!!! The cut-offs are heart wrenching! My wife saw a couple of those at Florida, first hand and the devastation on the athlete's faces was just... well words cannot really do it any justice! I DVR all of the IM races and watch them again on the trainer... I get so motivated by these races! One of my favorites was the 2007 Clearwater race, when Andy 'Mr All-American' Potts won! And my favorite female racer... #2 in Kona! Miranda Carfre! That girl can frickin' run! love it! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dan, Universal Sports frequently rebroadcasts IM races...although they seem to have moved on to winter sports for now. I cry for babies, old people, animals and IM competitors that miss cut-offs. In addition to the heart transplant recipient that missed the swim cut, did you see the young, double amputee (no quads or hams) that just missed the bike cut-off? Heart breaking. Also incredibly inspiring. My measley aches & pains just do not compare. Should I ever make that journey, my story will be I'm racing with just one lung....having coughed the other one up in December of 2009. Fever has finally broken. I may get out of bed tomorrow. Or maybe not. |

He spoke at the awards banquet and is an amazing kid (at 21). He so impressive and I have so much respect for him. I'm convinced he'll be back to finish Kona. |

![]() | ![]() Universal sports is good, like Kim said. Try everymantri.com (I think...) they do a rebroadcast on-line, but I am not sure when. (Something I learned from BT last year when I missed 08's Kona.) http://www.everymantri.com/everyman_triathlon/2009/01/2008-ironman-world-championships.html Edited by Trin2bfast 2009-12-20 6:48 PM |

I was so impressed by all he's accomplished. I agree that he'll definitely finish Kona. He definitely has that "never give up" mentality which has already gotten him really far. I'm sure he'll make it the next time. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Monday! Thankfully this should be a shortened week for most of us. Is there anyone lucky enough to be off the whole week? Question for the day, whats your favorite sport in triathlon and why? My favorite is the bike because I enjoy going out for long rides in the country and the feeling after completing an interval workout. It's funny cause I used to hate biking and especially long rides because of how much time they took up but after a while I learned it is great to have that 'me' time. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gooood morning! After a long weekend of pickling and marinating in a concotion of wine, whiskey, and whatever else I thought was a good idea to drink once already drunk, I'm ready to give my liver a rest and get back to training. I missed the Kona coverage yesterday due to sleeping on the bathroom floor (I know, I'm an animal) but have it DVRed for a trainer ride at some point in the near future.
To Eric's question- I'm going to go with cycling as well. Lately I'm running quite a bit more due to the upcoming half, but I really enjoy a nice long ride on a beautiful quiet morning on my favorite bike trail.
I hope everyone has a great start to their week. I'll be in and out at best, due to a wonky work schedule, out of towning, and the holidays but will be back in full force next week. |

![]() | ![]() I get to work all week, but that's the way I like it. I'll actually manage to get some stuff done cause no one will be hassling me. My planned schedule always ends up going out the door as soon as I wake up pretty much usually so this tends to be a good week to get some necessary stuff. I am not really sure I have a favorite discipline come to think of it. I love long group rides out in the sun with my friends. I love the simplicity of waking up and heading out the door with my dog for runs, and the swim constantly challenges me which is awesome. So I like each for their own reason really. |

![]() | ![]() Merry Monday Morning MG Peeps! After 5 days of nothingness, I will pretty much be doing nothing for a couple-to-few more days! This week is (as with my weekend) is broken up with 'hey, we need to go shopping, to hey honey, can you do this or that'... I had opportunities to fit in some activity but did not make it a priority... I will find my way soon!!! JP ~ don't mess around and get snowed in up there and miss Christmas. I have a friend who is up that way on business last week, and was supposed to come home yesterday... she is stuck until Wednesday now... INSANE! Favorite sport of the three... like Kim, I am very fond of all three, but if I had to choose, it is running. It is my strongest, I know my body & effort the best in that discipline... but with improvements my swim is climbing the ladder and after IMFL... my bike is definitely moving up my short list of faves! ** Japanese Steak House was very tastey on Friday, but we didn't make it to the movies to see Avatar... so no movie review to report. ** |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been MIA from BT all weekend and just catching up now. Justin....so sorry to hear about what happened and so glad you weren't hurt!! Hopefully now that a couple days have passed you're feeling better and ready to get back at it shortly! It totally blows my mind that the driver (and other drivers in this position) didn't even have the decency to make sure you're ok and just took off. I hope they catch him/her! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Swimming, hands down!!!!! So, I've never been a swimmer, and until last year couldn't swim with my face in the water. During my first year of tri's I pretty much always dreaded the swim and at best I tolerated it. My goal was just to get through it. Last winter I got a swim coach which was some of the best money (tri-related) that I've spent. On top of that worked with an awesome tri coach last season, and gained HUGE confidence in the water. Seeing the improvements that I've made (going from hating the swim to be a FOP swimmer) has really added to my confidence and makes me want to work even harder. I also find swimming to be really relaxing and I feel totally at ease in the water. evondo - 2009-12-21 8:38 AM Question for the day, whats your favorite sport in triathlon and why? |
