Just checking in as the month draws to an end. I should be meeting my goals for the month, I am at 104/100 miles run and 246/300 miles biked with 4 days left.

I am finally building some distance back on my long run day. I did 9 miles lastnight, 1 mile cool down followed by a lite bike ride of 12.5 miles. Getting some food in me around 45 min out seems to help alittle with not crashing out shortly after the 6 mile mark. I still find it hard to eat or even drink anything for that matter when running, but it does help. I haven't tried gues or anything yet, but then I haven't been putting in the kind of distance running before where that has been an issue.

Work has been really stressful lately, worst in the past 6 years and I have been doing some comfort eating (birthday cake at the office, snacks etc.) I would really like to take off that last 6 pounds, but I'm kind of ok where I am at so it's not that big a deal. Hopefully things will ease up a bit in the next month or two. Working weekends is not something that I usualy have to do on my job. Ya I have pulled my share of 36, 48 and 72 hours shifts in the olden days, but now that I have changed jobs it is now annoying to be the only one at work playing catch up on "special projects" that I am the only one to get assigned.

Oh well, speaking of work... back to it.

Looks like I will be on track for my 10 mile race on 3/1

i was at work today and something hit me like a ton of bricks . i leave in one week for Tampa !! oh i think i could be in for it . i mean i just dont know if i have trained right for the races . i have never done a marathon without a 20miler in training and looking back over my logs im like way short . yea the last two weekends i have done a 13.1 and a 14.5 but thats just the saturday races what about sunday ? i have no time it just came to me that im in the taper i dont know where this month went . i guess what it comes to is how i want to run the 15k and the 5k on sat. cause i would really like to give the PB for the marathon a shot but it would take under a 3:39 . any thoughts guys ??? on how you think i ought to tackle this cause its to late for anything else training wise . me well i think its gonna come down to just dealing with it but i could be missing something . thanks yall

Mac, since there's no more training you can do, what's left is mental preparation. You know you've done the distance before so you need to convince yourself that you can do it again. Since your training was somewhat lacking you may have to choose between finishing and finishing with a PB. Is that something you'd be OK with?

i been thinking about that and went over to the web site to see what im looking at as far as age group times . although i would like 3 great races i think what im gonna have to do is run the 15k to finish cause the times are to fast for me to try and place in that race . run the 5k to try and place. and just hope things are not to sore for for the marathon sunday and shoot for a PB. one thing im good at is keeping the head together (i think the USMC tought me that ) when agony sets in . what i think its gonna come down to is quick recovery supplements saturday . fuel and keeping the legs together sunday . thats the best i can figure it .

How's everyone doing, and what are your plans for the week? I'm adding a couple swimming sessions to my training schedule, after having the hard realization that taking a few months off of swimming while training for the half marathon was not the best idea. I went to a fitness swim class on Friday and was shocked by how hard it was after not swimming for so long. I was completely exhausted! I love swimming, so I thought taking the time off wouldn't be a problem as long as I kept myself fit, but there is really no substitute for getting in the water. In the future I plan to keep at least 1 day a week on my schedule to maintain my swimming fitness. Loved the class though, and it did inspire me to get back in the pool and to do the Feb swimming challenge. So, all in all, it was great!

Happy training,

Roni

Hi Roni, whats your challenge goal? I did swimming challenges in Dec and Jan so now I'm doing a 30 mile running goal for February (run team 2: "Running with Scissors"

I did a 26 mile ride yesterday and a 3.2mi run this morning. Tomorrow I swim.

My swimming goal is 4 hours for the month, since I'm just getting back in the water. Also, I'll be tapering most of the month for my half mary on the 23rd (really hope some of the snow melts by then). Love your running team's name md, you're off to a good start already, but the "swimming rocks" team is right on your heels

Shaun, you can find the challenges in the forums under other resources "challenge me!"

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm only counting my fitness swim class as .5 hour, since we also tread water, do push ups, etc

Mac, in the BT forums there's one called "Challenge Me". At the end of each month I guess they post the challenge for the next month. I just found out about this in December.

Hey, how's everyone doing? I'm feeling back to my normal self after being sick, the half mary, etc. Back to my usual workout routine, but only pool running until I find out what's up with the knee. My doc appointment is on Friday.

Hope you are training hard and happy!!!

Today I did a bike ride on the rollers. I'm getting pretty good with them but my legs felt tired today. I think that's what happens when I don't take a rest day each week. Swim tomorrow, run on Friday, bike ride outside on Saturday.

Hi All,

We seem to have lost a few members. I hope that this is temporary and that everyone will get back to training, logging, and bragging about it here.

Roni, what pool tether do you use? I've been thinking about buying one. I don't travel too often but I'd rather have it waiting for use than have to scramble to get one right before a trip.

Hi everyone,

Swam for 30 min today. I didn't have to rest, but I don't quite have my rhythm back yet. I found a gym with a lap pool to go to here in Salem, because I forgot my tether (realized it about 2 hours into my 11 hour drive). Anyway, now I can use their weights and stuff too.

The tether I have is the aquacise swim-in-place. You can find it at swim-in-place.com. It took a little getting used to at first because it feels like someone is constantly tugging on your waistband, but after a couple swims I got used to the feel. Now I really love it, and it actually simulates open water swimming better than doing laps.  I like the design, and it is made really well.

Going for a 45 min run outside this evening, can't wait. It's funny because I never in a million years would have thought I'd look forward to running, now I do.

Hope everyone is doing well, and training hard (or not so hard if your tapering, shaun  ) Hey, and good luck on your races this weekend! I'm heading to the coast tomorrow and don't know if I'll have internet access or not, so might be away for a few days.

Roni

well yea its been a slow week here im ready for this weekend . maybe more for it to be over i think . its gonna be rough for some reason i got that feeling . my sister is down and our friend and we are leaving in the morning . but my buddy who i signed up with is injured . he did it on a trail half marathon two weeks ago and the airforce aint letting him run . so the moral support i thought was gonna be around is now side lined so im going solo . my sis is doing the 15k,5k, half marathon . and our friend is just doing the 5k.
so how did i figure out how im gonna run the races ? well im just gonna see while im out there take them as they come thats all i think i can do .

Just checking in. I went on a short ski day trip last sat... worst driving conditions ever, at one point on the highway we had to completely stop driving becuase visibility was nearly to the front of the car and that was it. I got out of the car to look around and saw that I had stopped 3 feet behind a 4wheele drive white Police stomper that had also stopped, with another one in front of him. It took maybe 5-6 hours to drive 120 miles. Unrelated to the skiing I got sick that night and was completely out of it. I slept 24 hours on Sunday and Monday, but then had to stagger in to work to finish a project for today and such.

Just starting to clear up today so I went for a 10k run with a 1 mile ish cool down. Was like night of the living dead for about a week. I could have used another 50 hours sleep this week. Oh well time to start rebuilding for the race on the 1st.
