I don't know.  One of those heard good things, but maybe they didn't have the most recent info situations.  I'm not in the market for a new ride, so I had not researched any.

Andy -

Have you checked-out the bike route for Saturday's race? Last time I was on Portland Ave. that far south it wasn't like...semi-paved with lots of potholes. Surely it's been repaved.

Well bad news on the race front....just got a note from the RD that our Lake has Ecoli so there is a 99% chance they will need to turn it into a duathlon.  Not my cup of tea with the cross country run so I have asked for a waiver from SJ if it happens.

The one I really feel sorry for is Dino, one of his focal races.....

PS On a positive note, the Radio Shack Jr. team is doing the Trek 100 with me .  My massage therapist is their massage person and she drove the team car back from CA today.  Photo posted on FB.

I've done the bike portion two years ago in a relay but they've changed it since then.  The run is part grass trail and part pavement.  Swim is in a lake that a electrical plant uses so it's very warm.  The year I was there they still managed to be wetsuit legal but barely.

This is an Endorfun (Keith) race so he does it right.

Are you thinking about it?  I'll jockstrap for you or do the bike portion and we can relay.

I've always wanted to go to Austin and thought this might be fun.  For some reason, I thought this was an early Spring race.  Just realized it is late October...by that time I've already shut down the season, especially this year with LV on the horizon.

Dunno about the Keith part anymore, since Mooseman and Lonestar went over to IM he has really taken a beating, not too good reviews about the Oly at Mooseman, if you read the NH forums.

Austin has a billion races if you like the shorter stuff too.  CapTex is a spring race that winds through downtown and goes by the Capitol etc..  Very crowded race and the weather is a crap shoot.

1st off, Suzy will you quit Pooping in the Lake!

And on a serious note:  Anybody have any advice for a run to bike transitions?  I have done lots of tris...but never a du, so I have no experience with this one.  Do I try to run with a really fast cadence for the last 1/2 mile of the first run, so my legs are ready to ride?  Ha Ha.  Laughing

Oh well, adapt and overcome, as my Dad always taught me.  I am running this race in his honor so maybe this is fitting.

Dino:

I have only done 1 duo and that was 18 years ago. I would not go all out on the first run, for obvious reasons. Get warmed up and take the first run at medium effort. Then do the rest of the race as you would normally do a tri.  Good luck!!

How long has she been coaching?

What are her qualifications?

What is her background sports-wise?

How many athletes does she coach?

What is her coaching philosphy?

Can she give youe some clients as references?

Dino..that first aquathon in Lake Mendota scared the crap right out of me! So sorry.  I've done several duathlons although this one is a little different because the first run is shorter than the last one.  If I do this my strategy is as follows, run the first leg as hard as I possibly can without twisting an ankle, probably Z4-5, be totally disoriented when I hit the bike (which is exactly how I am coming in from the swim), bike at as close to LT as I can, jump off my bike totally gassed and run the last 5K as fast as hard as I possibly can, probably Z4ish.  Hit the finish line, throw up and wait to watch you finish!  So simple and really no different from a typical sprint for me.

Another few questions, is this her full time job or a side hobby?  how often has she coached newbies? how much contact are you allowed via email, phone, text or face to face?  I am always leary of coaches that are super cheap.....

local boards down here as well.  hate to say it but the endorfuns tag doesn't mean as much to me now.  and it sucks because it seems like the corporate wtc side is whats screwing thing s up, just my perception of course, but he still bears the burden.

but then i think of how well run buffalo springs was and maybe the onus is more on the rd rather than wtc.  i don't know.  very curious to see how augusta goes.

Happy Friday peeps!  Been a crazy week here so haven't posted too much.  I started a new job a few weeks ago and it is starting to pick up now.

Dino/Suzy - I don't have any advice on the Du but if it turns out that you swim is cancelled, I look forward to hearing about it because I think I am going to sign up for a Du next Sunday.  I think I like Suzy's approach of going hard right from the get go.  A local tri group has started a run bike run night here on Monday's  I am going to go on Monday so that I can get a feel for it.  The route is around a 2 mile run, 9 mile bike, 2 mile run.  It helps to work on some of the transitions and gives you a good high intensity work out.  Looking forward to giving it a try.

Weekend plans are up in the air.  I hope to get ~20 mile ride in tonight after work and then 40 miles in tomorrow morning with a group.  I also might do an OWS before the ride.  After that it is a lot of yard work assuming we don't get rained on too much.

Have a great weekend and good luck to all the racers!!!

Like you say...so simple.  1 mile run/ 12 mile bike/ 3 mile run = sure kick some serious VT numbers, especially with all the "Irongirl" endurance training you have under your belt.  Work on transitions and go! Wink

2 mile run / 25 mile bike / 6 mile run = going to need a little different approach!  Still hoping we will be able to swim and am confused if the current rain helps or hurts the situation.  I am not going to change my strategy until I know for sure.  If the swim is cancelled, I think I will run the first leg so I enter T1 in the same condition that I would out of the water after a mile swim.  Which in my case is pretty relaxed with HR around 135 to 140 max.  T1 ought to be rocket fast with not having to deal a wetsuit, etc.

However, it sure makes things interesting.

I have heard different opinions on the rain as well, but since run off is the culprit for e coli it seems to me it cannot help the situation, only hurt it.  You will see the vast majority of beaches in Madison are open, but the DNR covers Nelson State Park.  I talked to someone there a couple of minutes ago and she said it is VERY UNLIKELY the swim will take place because the levels are alarmingly high. Her comment was a miracle could happen, but.....My advice, hope for the best, but plan for the duathlon.
