kickitinok - 2010-06-10 6:16 PM Andy -

Have you checked-out the bike route for Saturday's race? Last time I was on Portland Ave. that far south it wasn't like...semi-paved with lots of potholes. Surely it's been repaved.

I am going to check it out today after packet pickup...  I think I heard that it had been repaved - how many loops do you think we are going to make? - I am thinking thee...

She works at BikeSource in Columbus part time. THat is how I met her. Her website is http://justtri.net

Cheap is good for me, i cant afford much over the 50 and even then I can only do it a month or two. I do have another ride set up on Sunday with my buddy who has done several tris.

I think she said coaching is her primary job.

For those who fly Delta, it might be worth watching this if you plan to ship your bike.  Makes my FED EX experience look pretty darn good.

SSMinnow - 2010-06-11 7:16 AM Hey good swimmers, woud you ever try this?  Brett is one of the coaches in Chicago that I know and he teaches all sorts of advanced techniques for OWS...his athletes are all WAAAAAY better than me so I personally wouldn't be doing this one.  Just hope I am never on the receiving end!

Is this something considered legal and common practice?  Me, I would not be pleased if someone was rolling over me like that.

So here I am in OKC already.  Found out that my daughter fractured her arm again (right arm this time, it was left arm in October...) jumping off the bed on to pillows at her Grandma's house so we had to pack up and come up early.  Got in a two mile run this morning - tried to go faster than usual to simulate race tomorrow.  Have to swim and bike later today and packet pickup and get to the movies (new Karate Kid movie is out today!) busy, busy...

SSMinnow - 2010-06-10 7:27 PM Well bad news on the race front....just got a note from the RD that our Lake has Ecoli so there is a 99% chance they will need to turn it into a duathlon.  Not my cup of tea with the cross country run so I have asked for a waiver from SJ if it happens.

The one I really feel sorry for is Dino, one of his focal races.....

PS On a positive note, the Radio Shack Jr. team is doing the Trek 100 with me .  My massage therapist is their massage person and she drove the team car back from CA today.  Photo posted on FB.

1st off, Suzy will you quit Pooping in the Lake!

And on a serious note:  Anybody have any advice for a run to bike transitions?  I have done lots of tris...but never a du, so I have no experience with this one.  Do I try to run with a really fast cadence for the last 1/2 mile of the first run, so my legs are ready to ride?  Ha Ha.  Laughing

Oh well, adapt and overcome, as my Dad always taught me.  I am running this race in his honor so maybe this is fitting.

Dino

That's a good mantra. I'm going to remember that one.

I don't have any advice, but wish you good luck whether it's a tri or a du!

I was taught to treat others like you want to be treated.  Besides someone could really freak out in this situation and an ows is not where you want to cause someone to freak.

Personally I would never intentionally swim over anyone!  My opinion is if you don't like the situation change it, but at your cost.  Speed up, slow down, go around, but never go over someone.

I hope it is a joke!!!

Can you all please help me with some wetsuit advice?

What are your experiences/thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of sleeveless vs. full sleeves? The water around here tends to be just below the cutoff for wetsuit legal, so I'm a little concerned about being too warm in a full sleeve. I'm also concerned about shoulder flexibility, as I have a pretty long stroke and would go crazy if the wetsuit limited my reach. On the other hand, I've read that the sleeveless suits can scoop water if they don't fit perfectly, and that would drive me even crazier. Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a sleeveless suit for the reasons you mentioned......water is pretty warm where I race (only worn my suit twice) and I am really weird about feeling resctricted in my wetsuit (clothes for that matter too).  I don't have an issue with water scooping ... I keep the neck pretty tight.

My 2 cents is that I think the questions that others have identified so far are good ones.  From the website you identify, she lists her own accomplishments.  She does not list her coaching accomplishments (e.g. "coached a first time triathlete's season from sprint to half iron"  "worked with triathlete to improve his PR for an Oly from 3:05 to 2:25" or whatever).

Maybe it is just me, but I feel that people who have the experience and physical abilities to compete as she has done might not necessarily understand the challenges and issues a schlub like me faces.  Hence I would probe on those issues.

Sorry for not posting much.

First it was my kitty, Keno - I just found out that she has FeLV - Leukemia, so it's been a bit rough for the last couple days. She's "okay" now. Just very anemic.  We have a couple months left with her.  It's been tough because last year we had to put down Blackjack (BEST CAT EVER!!) after just a year of owning him because he succumbed to FIP.  Now Keno - we had her since November. :-(  We're working on treatment options. So far, the only issue she has right now is she's anemic. Her brother, Reno, has been tested negative. There's a chance that he'll be a blood donor.

I'm doing good now and thinking positive, but it is a bit affecting my mental abilities the past few days. I am expecting to have a bit crappy training for the next few days. I am getting "uh I don't feel like doing anything" pangs and starting to feel blah.  I do have finals next week, and I'm off from school for 3 weeks, so hopefully with a much less demanding schedule from school, I will start to feel better and get my groove back.  At first, I was going to just give myself a week or so off from any training, but then I know I will have a bit of a hard time getting back into it. Luckily, my training schedule is not that all demanding as it used to be, so I'm happy if I have to cut a workout short or whatever, but at least I'll get it done. Is that okay?

Second reason why I'm not posting as much is the fact that I'm having problems viewing BT's site on my laptop. My Firefox kept crashing on me, and I tried everything, and decided to download Google Chrome. BT site won't show up, and it won't show up on IE either. So it's very weird, so I'm working on trying to figure out why I can't do stuff on BT (I can view the forums and people's logs, but can't post anything because I'm using Pagewash.com).   So, If you don't hear from me for a while, that's why. :-) I'll try to chime in if something catches my eye. :-)

Mett - Good luck with your coach consultation! I think everyone else covers the bases. If you don't click with her, look for someone else. Ask for client recommendations. See if she has a "trial" period. Most coaches charge monthly, so ask if she has a cancellation policy. Give it a try for a month.

Good luck to all the racers this weekend!

I'm thinking three, also.

It's going to be hot, humid and windy tomorrow morning, so I'm gonna double-up on hydration.

SSMinnow - 2010-06-09 5:34 AM YOO-HOO.....it's Wednesday!!! Race plans please and include your strategy to cross that finish line strong!

For the rest of the MG, what is the one thing you will NOT forgo putting in your bike jersey when you ride? and is it the same thing when you race?

I am racing on Saturday - Oklahoma County Community College Super Sprint (500m, 14mi, 5k)!!!  Definitely a "C" race for me though.

Plan - swim hard - 500m in 50m lanes - cruise the first 250 and then try to negative split the last 250...  Bike - push throught the pain - rpm 85+  HR 155-165  Run - hang on for dear life  - no not really - go out at a decent pace and then push it from the turn around back to the finish line!  EMBRACE THE SUCK!!!  (maybe I can improve my VT times for the guys team)

Holly and Trina are both supposed to do the race as well, so it looks like a MG race!  Plans for the rest of the day - lunch with the MG'ers and then an 80min RPE 6 ride around the lake and a drive home to Frisco (about 3hrs).

I will be there!!  Going to go pick up the packet this afternoon.   Got a short swim in this morning & I am ready!  Andy, Trina - if you have time, post your race #'s so I can find ya.  I will post mine when I get home this evening.  We still heading to Charlestons after?

DJ- hope you guys are able to make Keno nice and comfortable...it really sucks when our babies get sick, and the furry ones can't really tell us how they feel.  Never feel bad about missing training or cutting stuff short to be there mentally and or physically for those you love.  Tri/training will be there when life gets more manageable.

As for the BT site being weird, I can access here at work, where we run Firefox/Mozilla but not at home on my Apple which I've tried Safari and Firefox.  Weird!  Well, I should say, i can access it, but it is Super slow.

Julia, I am thinking a sleeveless might be better for me, too!  At my swim this past weekend, my shoulders felt sooo restricted, even though I pulled the sleeves way up to mid-forearm.  I am thinking of renting one before a monday night swim and just see if it helps with that.  The other thing is that my current wetsuit is on it's 4th season, but for how little I use it (snicker, snicker...only in races it seems)  it should still be in good, stretchy condition, I would think?  It is an entry level blue seventy.

Suzy, that video is crazy.  I'm assuming he teaches this to athletes to give them a method if someone is really being an a. but wow, how do you know if it's that or just some directionally challenged person like me?  Yikes.  I don't even like to tap on peeps feet accidently when I come up on them, usually try to veer off a little.

Good luck to all of our racers and praying for good weather for all of you!

We are throwing a big BBQ on Sunday and I'm excited to make our baby back ribs (low and slow on the grill...) for the big gang.

Thanks Linda and Kim for the wetsuit advice. Sleeveless sounds like the way to go, and it's nice that they cost less, too!

Steve and Kelly, I'm sending you both good running vibes. I really hope you're both out there running again sooner than later!

Good luck to all the racers! Have fun and go fast!
