SSMinnow - 2010-02-23 1:19 PM   Barry, you're killing me with your "can't ride in this weather" comment!  While I am a weenie some of my friends have been riding outside all winter in WI. May 8th is like 10 weeks away.... If your plan is calling for a ride, hit the trainer...get mentally tougher and slug it out, you can do it!  Signed, your personal supportive cheerleader!  Cheerleader 2
QUOTE]

I hear ya sister!  I have been feeling a little guilty myself trying to bump up my volume for HIM in May.  This weather sucks to ride bikes in, and my biking has suffered.  I am doing well in the pool and trying to nurse my running, but last week I just felt tired, so I said "screw it".

Took a little rest and now feel recharged.  But, I was getting to the point where I felt like I HAD to get on the trainer and I hate the trainer, so I am just going to do what I can and what I enjoy, but when it gets to be work and not enjoyable ...  But I am with you on Augusta.  Plenty of good weather between now and then.

Thanks

No races for me.

Olympic sport?????  First of all it would be something in the summer games, but since this is Feb.  I'll say downhill racing...Super "G",  Men's Downhill, Giant Slalom.

Speed, combined with strength and even though you might break some bones...heck, I do that running , unlike hockey, you get to keep most of your teeth.....and the chicks dig it!

My real secret desire is to be the manager for the Swedish Women's Curling team...don't have to compete....I just want to hang out with them and watch.  ....ummm watch the curling....that's what I meant.

Hope those of you that are racing this weekend have a great time and awesome weather.  Be safe.

Steve

I would also say something like snowboard or ski cross or one of the ski racing, super g type events.  My wife just told me this week that she thinks I could do really well in them especially if I had more time to dedicate to that alone.

I also look at the x-country people and know how fit they are because that is really tough work they have to be in great shape.

On a side note, I got to work this morning and got an email from my manager which is a forward from a business user complaining about a service and spelling out that I did absolutely nothing and keep giving them the run around, when I have had absolutely no communication with them at all.  There are any number of things in this that are making my blood boil, so I am taking a few minutes off of it so I do not respond inappropriately.

Had an iffy night of workouts last night, My 80 min temp run got truncated to 60 as on the 4th tempo set my knee had a sharp pain, so I eased off it and just did light running after that.  The best part of the workout was that I was forcing myself to run on my toes, making my lower legs quite sore.

I swam after making dinner and got through the first 1200 set, and then at about 395/1200 of the next set I got a cramp in my calf that sent me through the roof.  I have never cramped so bad in my life, and my calf is just burning today.  I got it loosened up and worked on it a bit last night, but it ended my swim set early.  I must say the first set was stellar 1200 in just over 20 minutes, for me that is moving.  I even had some difficulties with my flips, for some reason I was rotating to one side and really messing my head.  I got it figured out towards the end and finished strong.

Thanks for listening to me vent!

not looking good for our trip to new orleans for the 1/2.  jacy is getting snotty/stuffy again and my buddy's son has a ear infection in both ear's.  all that matter's is the little one's get better.  plenty more races!

so in case i'm not racing.... 30-kilometer pursuit.    tough, fun and team environment.   biathlon is a close second. ski as hard as you can then stop and shoot.  amazing!

No races for me this weekend but hopefully it'll be nice enough that I can get the bike out and go for a real ride!  The stationary bike at the gym is just not doing it for me anymoreSmile.

Olympic sport - I think it'd be fun to try snowboarding or cross country skiing.  I've been skiing once in my life and it wasn't pretty, but if I could eliminate the hills, I think I might enjoy it.  My husband was saying last night that he'd like to try the bobsled.  I'm not big on speed (should be obvious given my average pace for running and bikingTongue out) so don't think I could do something like that.

Thanks for the advice on the wetsuit.  I was concerned about feeling restricted in a full sleeve which is why I was asking about sleeveless.  I'll have to see what they have when I get there.

soccermom15 - 2010-02-23 10:43 AM

Morning guys!  Sorry about the little rant yesterday.  I'm not sure why it bothered me so much - I'm not, and have never been, a competitive person (at least I didn't think soSmile).  Anyway, I'm feeling better about it today.  I think it's motivated me to work a little harder on my running.  I had a really easy 4 mile run last night - felt like I could have kept going in fact, but didn't want to overdo it too much.  I've already had a short swim this morning and I've got Pilates class tonight.

Wetsuit question - I'm thinking about attending a wetsuit demo at a nearby pool on Thursday night.  I figure I'm probably going to need one for my tri in May so I want to see what would work best for me.  So I'm curious - do most of you have the full sleeve wetsuits or sleeveless and does it really make a difference?  The water temp at the tri is expected to be around 68-72F.  Does that make a difference in whether full or sleeveless would be better or is it just a matter of personal preference?  Just looking for some ideas on what I should ask/look for on Thursday.
Janet

Full body suit. But it is up to you what you want to use. If most of the time you are going to be swimming in cooler water then the fuyll sleeve might be better. You're going to be busy in the water and that will keep your arms warm except when the water is very cold. For short distances this won't be a problem as you won't be in the water long enough to get a bad chill. The worst part is the intial entrance into the water.  If you don't want to self warm you had better make sure you pee before you put your wet suit on.

Good on you for getting last week. I went out yesterday to find a pair for Mr. Birdy's wife and they are no where to found now.
I guess Oprah had this show last week and gave them to everyone in the audience.....Can't find them anywhere now!

Let me know if you need some. I think there are still a few pair around here.

No racing for me thjis weekend.  I'm with Trevor on the massage therapist part. But to  compete in an event I think I would like to try the skeleton. I think it would be a totally awesome experience  sliding down an ice covered track headfirst at 130 kph. ( about 80mph) and yes my wife thinks I'm a little off center too.

If you can try both on. Justrememerb that with either kind you have to pull them upo as fas as you can to get the proper mobility.

its been a few years.  yeah some of the houese were monsters.  its sure changed a lot unfortunately.   family is still around fairfield county. next time i'm up i'll let you know and you can tow me around on the bike.

and i love the idea of REV3.  isn't quassy amusement park is only open to family and friends of racers on race day?.  perfect for families.  and a great location.

losta - 2010-02-23 11:14 AM Nice place to train, I prefer it to where I live to train due to low traffic. It's only 10 or 15 minutes drive. This spring summer I hope to do some long rides 50-70 miles. I am about to sign up for a metric century in May and looking for a full century in July. How long since you've been back to Greenwich? You wouldn't believe the size of some of the houses... oh maybe you would being in Houston now.

losta - 2010-02-23 9:44 AM Wow page 202!!!!! No wonder I can't keep up. It moves so fast here. I try to scan at least. Hope all is well with everyone! Does BT have an entry for forum reading in the workout log that I'm missing?

that's because you've been hanging out with the greenwich tri club to much and not spending time here!  reading your log's and the roads you're riding brings back some pretty good memories of growing up there.

Her and me both!  I think Skeleton and Aerial Ski Jumpers are NUTS!!!  And I wonder who was the first person to watch the Luge and think, "that needs another body on top?"

For me it would have to be speed skating.  Doug and I used to think we could do pairs figure skating (good transition from cheerleading), but now we are way too old to be doing that stuff.

No racing here...not until April 11th.

I would like to do the moguls event in the olympics!  Pound the h3ll out of your legs, catch some air and pull off some crazy stunt and repeat!

I will celebrate the winter olympics with some skiing on Saturday and possibly Sunday.   Our friends are hosting their annual "Winter Blues" part on Satruday night so depending on how bad we drown our winter blues at the party, skiing Sunday my be out of the question!
