Ha!  Yes, one more makes a swan song, right?  Got clearance from wife so I jumped on it before she finished the "s" in "yes".  I'm looking to be humbled and was told if there is a course this is it.  We'll see.  Stay tuned.  HBDC.

I am 85% about the register for the race and i tried to see prices at the resort and it would not let me book. WOuld you recommend  it be cheaper if we rent a house if three people are going to race and what are the rental prices for a house.

Something just reminded me about something that bugged me. I am down with the national anthem, but the prayer? At the athlete dinner, we had to pray in Jesus name. I am not anti-christian at all. In fact I celebrate diversity. However, with all the diverse backgrounds i think they needed a non-denominational prayer if any. It isn't right for the non-Christians in a secular event. Look, I know we are all feeling vulnerable and wanting some spiritual support, but I still think we should not be exclusionary when it comes to the whole event. There....I said it.

Potential huge can of worms with this topic, but I agree.  These M-dot Ironman races are truly international.  If they are going to do a prayer at all, it needs to be non-denominational. Yes, the race is in the United States which is a predominantly Christian country, and yes, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" as the expression goes, but I still think you have to step back a bit in an international event when people are gathering from so many different cultures.

I didn't read much into it.  I think one of the local churches served the food at the athlete's pre-race dinner so that's where the prayer came from.  I don't follow an organized religion but I appreciate the good thoughts in any case.

Haven't had a chance to read through the thread post-race until this evening.  We left to go camping early Monday morning so just getting caught up.

Congratulations to each of you, even if you didn't have the race you wanted.  You each got to the start and that's an accomplishment in itself that most people won't even consider undertaking.  It was a pleasure meeting some of you; I'm sorry I had to see a couple of you in the med tent after your race was done.
Speaking of the med tent, here's a picture, hanging out with Crowie, after giving him a beer.  Got to chat for a few minutes with him and he was very gracious and friendly with all of us.
Best of luck to each of you in your racing endeavors.

PS...one other note about the swim.  The water temperature, contrary to what the rumors were, was measured at 54.7 degrees on race morning.  6-10 degrees colder than usual for race morning so if you had trouble with the cold, it's no wonder.  We had over 100 people who DNF'd out of the water, either getting pulled out of the lake or going to the warming tents after they finished and not continuing.

I'm curious what other Ironman races might be cool weather temp wise like IMCDA, this was my primary reason for picking CDA, but would like to try another venue if I decide to do IM#2?  Thanks!

IMAZ can be cool now that it is in late November, water can  be a little chilly too

Wow lots of differing reactions coming out this week. Been on vacation all week here roaming the great northwest and spending time thinking about my race but probably more so the "ironman lifestlye"

Well I can say I accomplished one goal, I am currently not signed up for any other races.....yet. I promised I would do CDA and take time to think about what I want next. Trying to figure out where to go from here.

Post IMWI last year (which was my 4th IM that I sluffed through the training and came in unprepared), I was a ball of fire for training and stayed pretty strong through early Nov. and was making great progress on weightloss and getting faster. Then my business took some turns and my workload increased and IM was no longer a top priority again. After training maybe 3 or 4 weeks between Nov and Apr. I kicked it in gear the last 8-10 weeks before CDA.

So I can't complain about my race cause I had no business to when I didn't put forth the effort I should have.

So now my dilema. I want to finally have a good IM and I know I love the training but am I willing to sacrafice my lifestyle to get there.I own my own business and am trying to expand which causes times of heavy workload like the week of CDA (worked 45 hrs the week of in only 3 days.) Also I have a family with two small boys that come first and always want to be there. Plus sports, concerts, casinos and all my other vices makes me a ton different than the average triathlete.

Sadly no other distance motivates me besides IM. I would like to have a fast HIM but basically as training for IM not as a race I would put as a goal race for a season. Currently I am leaning towards REV 3 Cedar Point and iMTX next spring with a winter marathon for good measure but I know the sort of commitment that would take over the summer to get where I want to be by then.

Decisions Decisions....Undecided

Started in on cleaning my house today after 3-4 months of just spot cleaning the areas that looked the worst. Wow is it a mess. Think I'll have to do at least my Ironman time in cleaning to get it back to normal. Oh well, definately worth it!

Last few hours of vacation for me then flying from Portland OR back to Chicago and driving through the night back to Michigan. Anxious to get back at it, hopefully my bike will get back sooner than later.

Thanks again to everyone in the group, this last year has been a blast on this adventure.

I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for all of the information that you guys have provided over the last 10 months and to Bonnie for the awesome honey badger mascot. I've not really posted because this was my first Ironman and not knowing the venue, I didn't have much to contribute. I will pay it forward and keep an eye on the CdA 2012 forum to see if I can provide any help to those planning to do CdA for the first time even though I'm planning on doing IM Florida next year instead (I hear there is less chance of hypothermia there).

Has anyone heard anything else about the video shown at the awards ceremony? My friend who did IMTX was able to get a copy of the one that they had there.

It should get uploaded to YouTube sometime soon - St.George was posted about 3 weeks after the race, Texas about one week. You can subscribe to IM videos over there and know as soon as it goes up.

A week ago at this time, we were allIn the water. While most of you have posted your thoughts and are home now, I am still enjoying the trip. We have made it back only as far as Iowa and still have four more days until home. I did this race asy first Ironman and I did it with a lot less training than most. I used Gale Bernhardt's 13 weeks to a sub-13 hour plan. I never trained more than 14 hours on a week. The plan worked well for me. My biggest issue on race day is that the gremlins in transition took one of my two nutrition bottles off of my bike. I was a little surprised to see one of my bottles missing when I arrived from the swim. Went with plan B and ate power bars from the course but my GI system did not like so many solids. As a result the second half of bike was a little slower than planned and I had to walk from mile 12 to 16. Once the stomach felt better I ran 9:30s for the last 10 miles and finished in just over 14 hours. Sorry that I didn't get to meet more of you but the family came first so I didn't attend the dinner or group swims. The HB signs were great and I enjoyed nerd jock in her tutu. This forum provided lots of great info and has been very entertaining, on many levels. Have fun for the rest of your summer.

How's errebody's recovery going? I thought I'd be down and out for a while but spent this weekend skiing two 14ers and doing a road ride up a third (6800' of climbing over 27.5 miles, one way) to round out the weekend.

For those of you doing CDA 2012 I thought this email from a local coach would interest you - I emailed all 3 as I will not return to race at CDA if the bike course changes

Hello all,

As you may or may not have heard, there is a move underfoot to change the magnificent bike course at Ironman CDA.  You are getting this message because you have either trained or raced on the current course, or know someone that has.  Apparently the five year agreement they signed with the various cities the course goes through is coming to and end, thus the re-neogiatiting and potential re-mapping of the course.

If you would like to see the current beautiful, hilly, epic course remain the same, it is imperative that you contact those in charge and let your voice be heard.

Below is an email from Nancy Lowery, the director of the IMCDA swim course, that outlines the three individuals to send your communication to.

Again rumor, but the rumor is the new course would run as an out and back on Hwy 95 southbound toward Worley, ID.  Clearly nothing that anyone could, or would want to train on prior to the event.  Additional downsides of the new course would be the total lack of crowd support as it is relatively difficult for anyone to get down the highway while the cyclists are on it.  That said, really the point of our discussion needs to be the amazing course we already have.  Epic climbs, phenomenal support as the course winds through Hayden Lake and unsurpassed scenery.

Julie Dibens, the female winner of this year's event even talked about how much she loved the bike course in her post-race interview.

If you can please take a few minutes out of your evening tonight, or day tomorrow, to write an email outlining why YOU love the current course and why you believe the event might be diluted with a new course, I would greatly appreciate it.  Again, there are three contact emails below for you to send your message to.

Please forward this message to anyone you know that has competed at IMCDA in any year from 2007 on (old Post Falls course prior to that) or has spent time training on the course.

Mac Cavasar, the Race Director, is the one that is pushing for the change. His email is [email protected], or [email protected]. I also think it is worth sending emails to Sandi Bloem, the Mayor of CDA at [email protected] and the CDA Chamber
Director, Todd Christenson at [email protected]

I'm feeling 100%...but tried to go for an easy run with the wife yesterday morning and my IT started hurting a 1/2 mile into it.   Looks like I need to give it some more time.   Kinda hard to do when I'm already looking to kill it in AZ.

Did any of you folks preorder the photos from Ironman CDA?

I did for $115, but still haven't received anything from asi yet.  Have tried contacting them, but I either get no response or my email bounces.

Impressive!  Anyone else get a the tattoo?  I don't plan to get one, but I did get a visor/t-shirt/took/bumper sticker etc.  I think I paid more for the clothes and accessories than I did for the race!  ....when I walked into the store and saw all the merchandise, they had me at "hello"  Wink

I was able to get a hold of them last week.  They will send out the link July 8. They wait to send out so you can go through all the photos and add ones that were not automatically found of you.

Did anybody else pre-order the finishers jacket and hear anything yet?   The lady at the expo said we'd get them in 7-10 days, but who knows.   Sent an email but I'm doubting I'll get a response.

I ordered one too, but when I was there the woman said even though they are saying 8-10 business days it could be longer since so many people are ordering them.  When they do have them in stock they usually run out of them pretty quickly.
