Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN Stayed inside on the trainer. Rode to There Is No Try. 1-2-3-4-8-4-3-2-1 minute intervals with 1-2 minute recovery, scaled to interval size. NP 304 over ~54 min, feel the burn. All intervals start at 7 or higher and go up, a lot. I put 7 at FTP and thought it might be too low while increasing the length. Felt about right on the way down, meaning I was trying to remember where the bucket was. |

Fantastic! :/ I had a really great weekend in DC though. Walked around way too much on Sat but still managed a 1:55 for the half. Oh, did you do Nike Women's Half? Yup, I sure did. I have the finisher's necklace to prove it! lol. Overall a well run event...a few hiccups but nothing major. Some funny signs. The best ones included "supportive and single" and a guy dressed in a tuxedo with a sign that said "I'm much more than a necklace"...lol. |

Should be a fun experience. What's on for training today? Swam with the kids this morning and did a main set that brought me as close to wanting to puke in the pool as I have for a long time. Sounds like that guy could do the same to you out on the road. |

Should be a fun experience. What's on for training today? I love training with beasts! Of course, seems like most people are beasty in comparison… Really ups my game (not that I'm competitive or anything). Finally got the heaviness out of the legs from Sunday's 10k sufferfest (managed to bury myself as well as I'd hoped and PR'd by a mile), so today will be an easy 3 miler on the 'mill (half in Newtons, half in Brooks as I break in my calves) and a 1,500 - 2,000yds set in the pool. Then we've planned a 50 miler to Blue Hill from work in the afternoon (we'll see how my riding buddy and my back both feel, so this might turn into a 20 mile soft-pedal!). To the first point, my riding buddy from work is a roadie and is always hammering on the bike. Leads to lots of Strava bling for both of us - even on "recovery" rides… Matt |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN riorio - 2013-04-30 12:33 PM April is over! Wow, that was a fast month. How was everyone's April training? Post/Brag/Complain here! I had a big bike volume (again) due to a Strava challenge Swim and Run were fine and probably enough for the races I have planned next month: Sprint, Uphill Time Trial, Olympic and Oly Relay Swim. Awesome biking, and you now have a new ride. Pretty cool! My training was not quite what I was hoping for, but better than I feared. I actually saw the pool, so that was good. And I added intensity on the bike, so that is good. and I kept running, although not quite what I had done in the winter. I prefer to see my glass as half full Edited by cdban66 2013-05-01 6:48 AM |

So that's a relief to have officially passed! Wooo! LMCC on May 6 and leaving for Hawaii on May 11! |

What's on for training today? Had an unreal group ride yesterday. Felt wicked strong and put the hurt on some guys. Woke up this morning and am under 150 pounds for the first time since I don't know when. Maybe high school. I had gotten down to 150ish about a month ago, but I purposely went back up to 152-153 because I felt weak. Losing the last 3-4 pounds over slowly has really helped. I've got a 6ish mile run this morning and masters after work. 5.5 weeks till Honu. Good luck with your exams Melissa. Hawaii is waiting for you...after a cool winter, Hawaii is getting HOT these days. |

Had a nice solo ride this morning, averaged 21.4 mph over 24 ish miles, nobody to chase or challenge me though. There's a group ride tonight at a bar & grille very close to where I live so I think I'll do that before the stupid cold rain hits again. You guys are kick-a$$ riders, would be cool to ride with you some day. Anyone doing the Kansas HIM? Crowie and Hines Ward will be there. I saw BT'er Tom Gerlach (Sp?) is on the start list. Actually Crowie is doing the Hawaii 70.3 also so Jason will see him out there. Hey Jason, work him real hard so maybe I'll have a chance at Kansas, LOL |

Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN Went to the gym this morning to do 1.5 in the Newtons and 1.5 in Brooks, then swim... BUT, at 0.5 it felt like someone was driving a nail into the top of my foot. Changed shoes and no better... I think it's just a bruise, maybe from racing Sunday with tighter than normal lacing (I know, never do anything different on race day - but it was only a very minor tug more than usual), but had to pull up lame on the run and head to the pool. Argh! Just the thought of not running for even a few days is wigging me out (I think I have a problem). <expression of frustration over> So, I got in the pool and did my 250 warmup and decided, after reading how fast y'all were, to just keep going to 1,500 yds. Did it in 25:27 with gas still left in the tank (wasn't really trying to TT it - just a bit more umph than normal). While certainly not as fast as pretty much any of the times I've seen here, I was pretty happy with where that is compared to last Fall. Followed it up with 5x100 at 1:24 and then 500 easy. So, the workout gods taketh away, but they also giveth. I'm starting to really like swimming - the way that I started to REALLY like running when I upped the volume considerably. I've liked the bike since I got back on it last April (it's like a cross between skiing and flying a plane to me). Now to just get faster on them all and I'll be a big(er) furry(er) ball of happy(erness)... Matt |

Jordan is a very approachable guy. He helped me a lot on a project I am working on. He always answers his PMs on the other board. I am sure he would take the time to chat with you. I think his ticket to Kona has been stamped with his 4th at IM Melbourne. A really smart and nice guy. |

I'll take this shift Thanks Nicole, but I think you've done your time..... Someone else can take the heat for a while, you need a break I had an appointment with a new doctor yesterday. He thinks my issue is related to weak hips/glutes, so he wants me to get back into physical therapy....but this time with a physical therapist who is a runner/triathlete. I'm not entirely convinced that this is the cause, as I'm sure the weak hips/glutes have been there all along, whereas the knee injury has only been there since my accident. But I'm willing to give it a shot. And I figure a runner/triathlete physical therapist is a great contact to have for future use as well! |

You never know, the accident may have caused you to compensate in some fashion where the weakness became apparent. Most everytime I've gone to a PT/ART person, they comment that my problems (usually) calves are partially caused by weak glutes.... Sounds like there is some hope though, which is all we can ask for, eh? |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN I know Arend is racing this weekend, but FYI, our exiled jedi master (Bryan Dunn aka bryancd) is racing at the St George 70.3 on Saturday. He should be in contention for the AG win/podium and a vegas slot. ETA: I will also be sort of racing this weekend. Our club is putting on a 40k team time trial. I'm not sure exactly if I'm racing on a team yet (hoping I'm not since I'm moving my long run to Saturday), but if not I got permission to ride the course unofficially solo as the first rider off, and will probably ride the course again as the last rider to get in my mileage. Will try to hammer the first run as a little practice for the State Championship 40k ITT later in June. Edited by tri808 2013-05-01 3:39 PM |

I was hanging out at the finish at IMNYC last year and Rapp was on the jumbotron coming across the GW bridge into the final section of the run. A woman came up next to me and asked who was out front. When I replied Rapp, she got really excited. Turns out she was his mom. Really nice lady and probably his biggest fan. Fun to listen to her commentary as she watched him come in with the win. |

It's a sprint with a crappy bike course (lots of turns) and an unshaded run course (high will be 96 degrees). But I am looking forward to it, a couple of my girlfriends are doing their first real triathlon. Wishing I had done some swim and run training but , oh well. |

Chance of snow Friday morning. This Midwest weather in something else. It's an out&back course and all downhill coming home, hot hilly, just down grade with little or no uphill coming home. Might PR but wth no speedwork and little miles only a slight chance. I'd like to do a 40K TT some day, do you need one of those cycling licenses to do a TT? I know you need the license to do Road Races and Crits just not sure about TT's. |
