Master 2912 ...at home in The ATL | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN brigby1 - 2013-04-30 7:39 PM GoFaster - 2013-04-30 3:44 PM Tripped and fell during my run at lunch. Scraped my hands a bit, and managed to hit my left side which is rather tender at this point. Graceful I'm not! Ok, everyone take the day off before we start losing limbs! And, um, where is Rusty? I am here! I am here! I am racing this weekend as well - Rev3 Knoxville Olympic. Sounds like a big weekend for the group - good luck everyone! |

Yes...this is the confusing way my med school tells us if we passed or not. They send us an email saying "if you didn't get an email, you passed"...and then our OCD takes over and we check our junk mail and trash to see if we missed the "YOU FAILED" email. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN reecealan - 2013-05-01 11:44 AM I'd like to do a 40K TT some day, do you need one of those cycling licenses to do a TT? I know you need the license to do Road Races and Crits just not sure about TT's. Depends if the race is affiliated with USA cycling. Sort of the same thing as triathlons that may or may not be affiliated with USAT. If they are affiliated, you have annual licences and one day as well. Same deal...one day is about $10. And you can't qualify for nationals, etc. without an annual license. |

I'll take this shift Thanks Nicole, but I think you've done your time..... Someone else can take the heat for a while, you need a break I had an appointment with a new doctor yesterday. He thinks my issue is related to weak hips/glutes, so he wants me to get back into physical therapy....but this time with a physical therapist who is a runner/triathlete. I'm not entirely convinced that this is the cause, as I'm sure the weak hips/glutes have been there all along, whereas the knee injury has only been there since my accident. But I'm willing to give it a shot. And I figure a runner/triathlete physical therapist is a great contact to have for future use as well! You never know, the accident may have caused you to compensate in some fashion where the weakness became apparent. Most everytime I've gone to a PT/ART person, they comment that my problems (usually) calves are partially caused by weak glutes.... Sounds like there is some hope though, which is all we can ask for, eh? I was thinking something like that too. It may not have been an issue before, but could be preventing things from getting better now. It's not always directly on the spot, which makes things tricky to figure out. |

Should be a fun experience. What's on for training today? Had an unreal group ride yesterday. Felt wicked strong and put the hurt on some guys. Woke up this morning and am under 150 pounds for the first time since I don't know when. Maybe high school. I had gotten down to 150ish about a month ago, but I purposely went back up to 152-153 because I felt weak. Losing the last 3-4 pounds over slowly has really helped. I've got a 6ish mile run this morning and masters after work. 5.5 weeks till Honu. Good luck with your exams Melissa. Hawaii is waiting for you...after a cool winter, Hawaii is getting HOT these days. I'm ready for hot. Well I'm physically not ready...but I am ready...haha. Jason, do you remember if they had a shuttle running on race morning to the swim start from the Fairmont Orchid? I went through the race guide and didn't see anything about it. I think I'm going to book a room for myself and my friend at one of the hotels next to the Fairmont instead of driving up island early that morning. Just debating if its best to do that or closer to the Hapuna beach park. |

He should be in contention for the AG win/podium and a vegas slot. ETA: I will also be sort of racing this weekend. Our club is putting on a 40k team time trial. I'm not sure exactly if I'm racing on a team yet (hoping I'm not since I'm moving my long run to Saturday), but if not I got permission to ride the course unofficially solo as the first rider off, and will probably ride the course again as the last rider to get in my mileage. Will try to hammer the first run as a little practice for the State Championship 40k ITT later in June. Racing to a DNF. Wildflower olympic but ankle won't let me run, so going in to DNF. Normally wouldn't do the drive etc for this but going with a friend and don't want to let him down, so off i go So it's an aquabike. |

Just debating if its best to do that or closer to the Hapuna beach park. I always have stayed at Hapuna, but I am about 99% certain that they do have shuttles running from Fairmont to Hapuna on race morning. I also believe they have shuttles running between Hapuna and Fairmont in the days before the race for those staying at Hapuna that want to do packet pickup and T2 bag drop off, as well as those staying at Fairmont that rode their bike over to Hapuna for bike drop off and need a shuttle ride back. If you choose to stay at Hapuna, or somewhere not near Fairmont, just know that unless you have a ride with someone that can put your bike in their car, you will have to ride (with your T1 and T2 bag) back to your hotel. I've seen many people make that ride from Fairmont back to Hapuna, which is about 6-7 miles...but it's dead into the afternoon wind and people hang their bags from their handlebars which makes me cringe. IMO, the simplest solution would be to stay at or near Fairmont unless you have someone that can pick you up after the race. In which case I would choose Hapuna because your race morning will have no rush. |

Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN We have a 5k for me and Kim and a 1 miler for all three kids on Sunday. Tough to work the balance of the workouts in around it, and Kim *might* be having shin splint issues again, but it's such a great race for the kids (and we see a lot of friends, as we used to live in the town that holds it). Looking forward to it, but not expecting to do much with the actual race ("training through" as they say). Good luck all! |

What amazed me the most was that he pulled off a 3:20 marathon in the race with only 12 miles a week running. That's what I would call truly god given ability. Anyone ever met someone like that? Impressive, does he have a running background? |

My wife is still hesitant to ride (the biggest limiter to her doing tri's - she finds speed scary), and she's doing a lot more road races as a result. Trying to work back onto the bike slowly. I think it will be just a matter of her riding more. I'm not pushing her at all, if she brings it up I go along. |

What amazed me the most was that he pulled off a 3:20 marathon in the race with only 12 miles a week running. That's what I would call truly god given ability. Anyone ever met someone like that? Yes, I raced with a guy on the Canadian Forces Triathlon team who was simply a monster. Generally fit but not specifically training for tri although he had done tri specific training in his teens (he was 22/23 when we were racing together). He was a swim team kid and a monster on the bike and run; as an 18yo he went 1:51 for a hilly Oly (that may have only had a 9km run). When we were racing together he swam a couple of times a month, rode when he felt like it and ran less than 10 miles per week. Despite this, he would swim under 20, easily ride with the pack for 55ish and then run a 35:xx 10k. I would not be surprised that if he had wanted to seriously train for tri that he could have been in the hunt for podiums at ITU Cont Cup events. Shane |

I've riden with several female riders over the years who have said that they were more comfortable starting to ride on the road with an all female group as they found it less intimidating. Shane |

A local guy who used to race CC and MTB, I believe (not sure - maybe crits, too). Now he's an old (40's) codger like me - but has a HUGE engine. I've heard him referred to as the human lung. Dude decides to hop into a local sprint tri last summer and does so well they made him race elite at the next one. Impressive… He's messing up all our local strava segments, as I have to turn myself inside out to get close to his cruise speed (and he can cruise straight up a wall, I think). |
