I don't see any Fatty/David love, so I'll report a little of my own!  I finally broke my 10K PR that was set back in 2008  when I was just a runner....48:48 according to the race, 48:45 according to my GPS.  #1 AG in 40-49, #6 female.  Jumping up and down!!!!

Way to go Minnow!! Don't you have some typos in those times??? So awesome!!

You're right.  I must have still been delirious!!  45:45!!!! or 45:48!!!  No beginning timing mat and I started two rows back which accounts for the difference.  No matter, either one is a PR!!!

I feel like you sort of have had a "breakthrough" in your running the past couple weeks?  What do you think the difference is?

her 16 coaches weren't running along side her.  so she didn't know what to do.  so she just did it.

awesome job, little one!

Hey David, you can thank me later for taking the focused beatings off of you and putting them squarely on me.    I sure hope our genius does well at IMFL or there might be a little return loving coming his way.

kkcbelle - 2012-10-20 8:59 PMCongrats on a first-time 50K accomplishment, Julia!! I know lots of us want to hear grimy details, so I hope you post 'em or write a RR. Pour a beer, relax, and take care of your awesome legs!
Congrats on a great race, Julia! Pics of "your awesome legs" are encouraged.

X2!

Thanks, folks. I had a ton of fun. I'm hobbling around still, but it's a happy hobble. I added a write-up to my log, along with some photos. My log is friends only these days, so PM me if I accidently left you off my friends list.

Tiana

Is this strictly from nerves?  Do whatever you can to get past it.  You really need to make sure that your taking in plenty of nutrients leading up to your big day since it is so depleting.

It could be partly nerves but I think it's mostly that I either got Food Poisoning or a bad stomach bug on Saturday.  I've had some bad headaches too. I'll keep eating even when I don't feel like it.  I'm going to keep it bland. No spicy. And I normally love spicy.

It's pouring rain here in Utah. Good thing my race is in Florida.

Is it possible another week has flown by?  who is itching to race this weekend?  tell us about it!!

For those of us not racing, what is the one different, crazy thing you're going to do in off season that you've never done before?

I have a hilly 5k this Saturday.  Going to try to beat last year's time.

I just registered for a Nighttime Winter Trail Half-Marathon (Jan 26).  Julia did it last year, and it sounded like a lot of fun.  I'm also volunteering at the IM in Florida next Saturday.  I'll be in the women's changing tent at T1--should be crazy.  Finally, I'm considering (strongly) a 50M trail run next March.  That's all the crazy I can handle right now.

ha!  I'm racing but not too sure you'd call it "itching to race".  Its an inaugural Halloween 5k in my town. My son is racing too so not sure how it will all go down.

Nothing crazy planned for the winter yet.  Still time for that to change though.

Good luck, Jayne and Christina!  No racing for me but oh, so tempted to break out a surprise 10k with all of the Halloween races in the area.

How funny you should ask that question, Suzy!  I did something kind of crazy last Friday.  I signed up for a 6 session Crossfit basics class and it starts in two weeks!  I don't usually do classes as I am a loner that way, but last spring I did some basic crossfit exercises to supplement my training since I couldn't run much and I really loved how strong they made me feel.

If all goes well, I will try to go to class 2x a week in the winter and then pare it down to 1x/week once tri training kicks in.

I am most definitely NOT looking to race! I ran my first marathon on Sunday and I am wiped! That distance is no joke! On Monday I wasn't sure if I would ever walk again. Yesterday I took the bus to work and I was about a block away from the stop when I saw it pull up. I tried to run to catch it but that wasn't happening!  Overall it went well - finished in 4:08:03. Mentally, it was really difficult miles 22-finish. Oh! but the course gave out pickle juice at mile 21ish. I drank it, and it was really thick like pickle juice concentrate. I don't know if that helped anything, but I didn't cramp until I after I finished. Just felt really fatigued during the race. I'm still assessing how I feel about it - I expected that the last mile and crossing the finish line would be almost magical - that I would be so happy and proud (like how I feel in triathlons), but instead I was just exhausted. Is that common?

Congratulations, Melissa!  Marathons are such a different beast than 2x a half marathon!  I think the first one felt that way to me, too (13 years ago!).  I am sure it is different for everyone....but I remember thinking, wow, all I want to do is have a hot shower and a burger.  And sleep for the rest of the day.

Good job on not cramping during the race!  You should be very proud of a great finishing time on your first marathon.  That is terrific!  Congratulations!

Weird purple symbols here too, Tony... I changed the font for my reply.

Racing!!! My original plan this weekend was to race a 1/2 marathon on Saturday. But Steve talked me into doing a 20-mile trail race on Sunday. The course is just difficult enough to be a huge challenge for me, so I opted into that. Steve and Ryan are doing the 50K. My original goal was just to beat them... but I know what the 11 miles are like that they're doing and I'm not, so without being cocky, I think that me beating them is almost a given. This will be a very hard course. I don't remember elevation number (5K feet?), but the hills are steep and long, and the trails are wet. I've run most (all?) of the course broken up over several runs. Just gonna go out there and do my Little Engine That Could thing and I-think-I-can myself through the race. Plan to walk the ups, try to stay upright on the downs, and somehow figure out how to push just enough to be harder than a long run but still be able to finish. Ha!! No clue what my time will be!!

Thanks for fixing that, I was patiently waiting by the mailbox for my swbkrun decoder ring and it never came.......

I think I will race a little Cross this weekend and see how it goes!

What is wrong with my font????  I like how it looks!

I swear Kim and I really are one and the same.  I start a 6 week TRX Boot Camp Class on 11-4, meeting twice a week.  If I could look 1/10th as good as the woman teaching the class, I will have achieved my objective.

My work computer comes up with that crazy font too, but it shows normal on my phone and the mac at home.  No racing for me.  I do wish I was running more than I am right now.  For a number of reasons, this is my favorite time of the year.  Nichts verruckt hier.

Yes this is going to be a brutal weekend.  It's going to be about 7700' for Ryan and I, and for Kyla 4500'.... And Kyla you are more than ready for this!!!! You will do awesome!  Keep in mind... It's not the 7700' of uphill... It's the 7700' of downhill that really hurt.

Well done on the marathon, great time!

The final part my marathon had amazing crowd support and a really good atmosphere but my first thought crossing the line was "never again", after a day I was thinking "that wasn't so bad" and after 2 days I was thinking "maybe I'll do another next year but do a longer last long run to make that last few km bearable".

I know what you mean comparing the marathon with a tri, I think triathlons are much more fun and you feel so much better at the finish. The Noosa tri I'm doing next week and the Mooloolaba tri I did earlier this year have an amazing atmosphere and heaps of celebrities and Olympic athletes so I think the marathon seemed a bit tame after those.

Ok, I just clicked the button to register for THIS race (50mi).  And then I read the following note on the race website:

"There are no formal qualifications for the 100 mile a nd 50 miles races, except good judgment on the part of runners, as to their fitness level for this event."

Good Judgment?  hahahahahahahahahaha

The deciding factor was that I will have a running partner on race day.  The same woman that I ran the 50k race with last spring is going to run the 50 mi. with me next April Laughing.  Usually, like Kim, I prefer to train and race alone, but for some reason I feel very relieved to know there will be someone there to hear my whimper.

Oh, I would love to hear from those of you who have done deep water running.  There's no way I will be able to do the running volume most training plans call for (70-80mi/week) without injuring myself.  I'm going to cross train and do some water running to hopefully build volume without hurting myself.

Julia, are you in???  You know you want to Wink
