Do you have a gmail or G+ account? If so, someone will invite you into the super secret Order of The Manatee. OK, it is simply a Google community, not really super secret or anything, but a bit on the private side.

Chad, I sent a maybe. I have a B-Day dinner with my MIL and then a trip to the Y. If I am back in time, I'll get logged in.

Hands Marie - we are planning on doing a Google Hangout (video call) so we can hear each others "accents"..  Activate Google + (Google's version of Facebook) and post your gmail - we will send you an invite to the Super Secret order of the Manatee...it is a private group - though not much of a secret..

Christ - if it doesn't work out - post a general time that will work - and we might have to modify it.  considering what an active bunch the Manatee's are - we may have to do a hangout at midnight on Friday!

Good luck Salty!

I want to hear all about it.

What were your sports before you ran?

Hockey and snowboarding at various stages in my life, Shot Put (huh?) in junior high,  Pole Vaulted in HS.

Probably the strangest combination in sports history.

GO SALTY GOOOOOOO!!!

I dunno... I went from soccer to gymnastics to rhythmic gymnastics to basketball to beach volleyball and snowboarding to triathlons.

Believe me... the skill set from gymnastics does NOT transfer over to basketball.

gymnastics/acrobats>ballet/jazz/tap/highland>soccer/basketball/volleyball>shotput/javelin>hockey>triathlon

swimming > soccer > badminton > martial arts > sport fighting > MORBID OBESE > running > triathlon + ocean swimming

Anyways - here is a picture I took tonight.. Love how this came out.

Here is the Youtube Video: I cut a 1 hour practice down to a bit under 6:00 minutes.  They did everything - flip turns, starts, kick sets, pull sets - I was impressed with my little guy.  He has never done anything like this, and he rocked it!

So cool--can't wait to get on a speedier connex to watch it--heck I haven't even watched YOUR swim videos yet

In other news, I am making infinitesimal steps of progress in dealing with my phobia ... I can't even see a proper therapist or anyone like that about it because I am so afraid that I'm even afraid to deal with it.

However, teeny tiny steps. I think I posted a (very blurry and half-hidden view) pic of one from the zoo in Perth.

This is my little friend on the wall behind my couch. It is my little friend because it eats ants and mosquitoes.

Originally posted by KansasMom I can't respond to your post, Salty, but I wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow and that I hope you have fun. Running the track will be different. One of our local girls, maybe 27?, is an accomplished runner. She lost one of her legs from the knee down a couple years ago at the birth of her son. She runs with a blade now, and a couple weeks ago ran an 800m and 5k at a para-athlete track meet. She won both races and set a para-world record in the 5k. Anyway she commented that not a lot of women ran the 5k, she thought because they were intimidated by the track. She ran her heat with the men, and I believe she also used one as a pace bunny.

That perspective really resonates with me and I have a feeling a lot of other runners out there, specifically women.

Yeah, it's TOTALLY intimidating. I mean, you are out there on the oval with everyone watching. I'll likely be one of the last people out there.

Now, imagine doing it with a blade!

We watched this Boston Marathon special a while back on CNN and J asked me what I would do if I lost my leg or legs. My response was quite regrettable.  I sure would hope I would have the character to be like the woman you described above.

I've had that conversation with Tony too... what would you do if...?

I'd like to think that I'm just so freakin' stubborn that the loss of a limb would only make me that much more stubborn to show people that I CAN do it.  But at the same time, I'm hoping that I don't ever have to actually find out.

First tri I ever did was a benefit for Challenged Athletes Foundation; I saw blind triathletes, triathletes missing limbs, alt-gait triathletes ... made a huge impression on me.

I'd like to get in on this challenge, but don't really know any exercises apart from crunches and planks. If anyone would like to draw me up a workout routine, I'd be happy ( ? ) to jump right in.

Check out the core challenge thread. Several people have posted their workouts already Laughing

Morning Manatess... guess what day it is????

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWBhP0EQ1lA

'Skrat - I TOTALLY understand about the abs thing, I went to get out of bed this morning and it took a moment or seven for me to be able to stand up straight.  The picture of your son is fabulous - you should definitely be a proud papa!

Kirstin - That sounds like a completely reasonable way to bring new shoes home and I intend to employ the exact same method either today or tomorrow.

Judi - HUGE CONGRATS on qualifying for AG Nats!!

Jen - go have fun on your bike, but definitely hydrate, it's all kinds of grossly humid outside today.

Yantilicious - LOVE your outfit for your run today - no one can pull off looking like Rainbow Bright on a daily basis like you can!
