swbkrun - 2009-07-17 10:04 AM NO NO NO!!! I went home from work last night knowing/feeling that IT was coming.... The dreaded flu.  ARGH!!! I went to bed at 8pm last night and tossed and turned ALL night.  Absolutely haggard today.  Going to try and sneak out of work, and sleep before we make the 3 hr. drive to the lake.

I was really looking forward to RACING tomorrow.  I think the word racing it out of the picture and survival is the only thing possible tomorrow.  So frustrating!

Actually this is going to work out just fine.  You have Lake Stevens in a few weeks so skip this weekend to take care of yourself.  Then train your a$$ off for it next year.   DFL, DNS, Win.  That would be cool.

I decided against Lake Steven's.  I think my wife is going to do it, and I would rather cheer her on than race it.  So as of now, this is my last scheduled race of the year

Steve, take care of yourself. You know your body best. If you think you can power through it, go for it! If not sit it out.

I am taking off shortly for my fun car ride!! I'll be back for a bit on Monday i think, so I'll chat back with you all then!!
Good luck to the racers this weekend as well. Go Kim you 70.3 machine!
I really want to run this 10k off the bike in under an hour. Hope its not too hot. I am sugar!!

Steve, I'm hoping to make it down to cheer on some friends at LS.  We're coming back from vacation the day before, so I'm iffy right now.  Funny that we'd finally meet up after two years at a race neither of us are doing....

Bummer Steve.  I was thinking you'll be resting this weekend to get over it...until I saw your comment that this is your last race of the year.  I'm thinking we'll see a race report from you come Monday.  Either way... take care of yourself!

Ok, Friday Funny for you guys.

I had this fun 40 min run scheduled for today...10 min warm up, 20 min at 5k pace, 10 min cool down.
Spent a lot of time on the phone this am so it's hot when I start (90 degrees hot).  So I am into my run...and with 2 minutes left in the middle part of my run I have to use the bathroom (just pee, but still, I have to go).  By the time I get to the cool down I am driping from sweat and really, really have to go...but I feel like I am having a good run so I keep going.  By the time I get home I really, really, really have to go.  Never losing speed I run in the house straight to the bathroom and hit the toilet ...... and, totally wet from sweat I slid right off into the wall.  just have to laugh

Now off to bike some...

So Sunday I start a 12 week Olympic training program. Besides the SBR training it has core and strength training. I expect I will be sore from this in the beginning. Anyone have any advice having done something similar?

I have started to go to bed earlier this week, to give my body more of a chance to recover. Haven't really noticed a difference yet. I did complete the most swimming in a week that I have ever done at 6,750 yds.

Goodluck to  everyone racing! I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way!

The strength training isn't too tough, maybe the first day or so if you haven't used those muscles in awhile.  I have had that in a few plans here I have done.  Should get back to it myself...

Doug, take this for what it is worth but from the training plans I've followed, including the one I am currently on, I have found that sticking to the plan is big.  In the beginning your plan may seem a little "easy" but volume will ramp up.  I seem to want to do more....but that may not be the best idea.  You are smart getting the sleep, that's big for me.  Also, anything else you can do to stay healthy (nutrition, vitamins, etc).  I hear showing up to the starting line healthy = success    Good luck to you!    Again, this is just my .02

Has anyone done the 200 sit up challenge?  Anyone interested in doing it.  I'll bump this Monday for the likes of Trevor and Chet who are already gone for the weekend but thought I'd throw it out now.  I can probably do 30 at most right now...sad

You've probably seen it but in case not here's the link.

I started off the year w/ the 100 push up challenge and 200 sit up challenge along w/ my half marathon running plan and HIM tri plan.  What was I thinking?  Needless to say, I lasted about a month before I realized something had to give.

So yes I'm interested.  It's one of my fitness goals this year.  :-)

I'm interested too!  I tried to start the 100 push up challenge back in Jan but then got caught up in training for my half mary.  Never got back to it.  Maybe we can do both the Sit up and Push up challenge, so Sam can get both goals in!  I will be bored after the HIM, and have nothing to do...unless Suzy talks me into signing up for a fall marathon...she's sneaky that way!

For Doug, I tried to incorporate the strength and core from the 20 week program I just did for this race and it was just too much of a time drain for me.  I figured if something had to give, it was always the thing I could skip.  I do think that for this 44 year old body, it would have been good, but I somehow managed to avoid injuries up to the race (knock on wood )

just my experience, but if you can do it, more power to you.  i think the leg exercises really helped me at the beginning to build up my leg strength.

OMG Compression socks where have you been my whole life.

These things feel awesome.

Just picked some of the medical grade ones (sounds like I am talking about drugs...) at the local pharmacy

20 bucks for the 15-20mmHG ones vs 55 bucks for the Zoot/2XU/CEP ones.

I look awfully funny wearing knee high black socks and shorts but they feel awesome.

Will probably have to pick up a few pair to wear to work.

Not going to run with them, well at least not the black ones...

I started it and the 100 pushup challenge on Monday.  I did not choose to particpate in the 200 squat challenge, as my legs get enough work as it is already.  I did my first sets and then promptly turned the palm on one hand into hamburger....  I am going to re-start next week.

I am really looking forward to my race on Sunday. I still have some chest congestion but it's not bad and I only cough up a lung first thing in the morning. I am much better prepared for this race than I was for the last one, especially mentally. I may even have some family show up if I'm lucky.

Bring it on.
