cjkelly0729 - 2011-06-07 2:32 PM Elite Cyling in Leawood, Kansas is probably the best pure Tri shop.  However, if the Expo is anything like it has been the past few years, you will be able to buy anything and everything you need at the race site Friday or Saturday, including a speed suit.  Not sure you will get the best deal on $$$, but most of that stuff isn't discounted at the LBS' anyway.  Safe travels!

krash478:  I'll be picking my bike up from Elite Cycling, should be ready tomorrow, I can take a look at what they have and report back.

Question about bike pumps.  I know they said there will be a few in T1 come race day, but if we are checking out bikes in on Saturday, for those who have been there before, was there ever an issue getting a pump to top off your tire?

There will likely be so many people with their own pumps (myself included) you can just borrow one from someone on your rack race morning. In my experience people are so helpful on race morning... I've borrowed or given to be borrowed many pumps (helped pump many difficult tires too), body glide, sunscreen, and even a spare Co2 for my saddle bag. Just ask nicely, and if you see someone is "in the zone" or visibly agitated/nervous, steer cleer Tongue out

I wasn't aware the race provided extra ones, that's cool. I would have no idea where to locate them though... T1 is pretty congested.

Cool. Yeah, I have my own pump, just wasn't sure of the "logistics" of bringing it to T1. If I put my stuff in the bag to be taken to T2. What do I do with my pump?

I was at Elite Cycling last week.  I believe the only swimskin they have in stock now is the Blue Seventy PointZero.  However, that is no long legal if you are racing to win podium spots.  There may be more, but that is all I saw last week.

If you don't have anyone to hand it off to that could be tricky. I doubt it would fit in the bag along with your other stuff - you could try to stash it somewhere but would risk it being stolen (plus have to go back down to T1 after the race).

I'd just borrow one from another racer - you can borrow mine!

Okay gang...so after a full three weeks of forced taper (bronchitis.....zero workouts), I have finally decided to go to Kansas and race anyway....it may be a long day but I am no fan of DNF or DNS....

I will be staying in the campground at Site #116 if anyone wants to stop by on Sat......once the bike is checked I'll just be lounging outside my trailer....

All the Best to Everyone!!

Chris B and I are not camping overnight since we live close to the race site, but we will be using spot 233 as our hang out area and closer place to park on Fri, Sat and Sun of course.  If you see someone there, please stop by, we will check out the other spots as well.

Good luck everyone, keep sipping that water!

Does anyone know whether they do live athlete tracking for this race?  I'm trying to remember from last year, and just can't!

SPEAKING OF GETTING ONES DUCKS IN A ROW!!!

Let me share with the group my holy moment of this morning in hopes that it will cause others to check and avoid a similar fate!

So I was putting my race wheels on my bike today to get ready to pack it into the car tonight in prep for the drive up after work tomorrow......rear wheel mounts fine....front wheel goes on and I'm looking at my brake clearance when I spot it!! A little tear in the tread of my front wheel.....huh? So I figure no big deal but to be safe I grab a set of fine needle nose pliers I have in my tool bag and feel around inside the tear....."hey, what is that hard feeling object in there?"....gently work around and pull out a small piece of glass from the slit........phew....that could have made for a crappy day on Sunday....tire's now good and clean but I encourage all of you to double inspect your tires before you leave home......especially if you raced in Memphis!!! Those who did know why I say that!

Travel Safe!!

Wow Tri-Wog that is great you caught that before Sunday - coulda been BAD!!!

A reminder for those of you who haven't used your wetsuit since last season (cough-like-me-cough)... soak it in the bathtub for a few hours - I'm doing this tonight. Is a tip from Emilio DeSoto - he says over the winter, the non-use of a wetsuit will cause it to tighten up and there is a risk for tearing the first time you put it on, or at the very least, it being more constrictive than you recall. If you soak it, the water helps loosen up the fabric and make it more pliable.

My race wheeeelz go on tonight!

Not sure what site you,re checking but I found one saying the water temp is 75. I have also been told they can be very creative at making the water cool enough.

Same as the link posted earlier in the thread...Army Corps of Engineers for Clinton Lake, and it was 81 yesterday...before that it WAS 75, but that was from the reading take on June 1st, not the one they just took on the 8th. Ur site was probably not updated. But yep...it's a ll a moot point really, like Lisa said..."Creative temp reading" has occured before on race day.

The water temp may drop if the rains come.  I am brining my wetsuit either way.

I cannot wait to get to the park and get set up.  I am heading in Saturday mid day, maybe earlier.  I would like to see the Ironkids race and show them some support.

I will be hitting the road tonight, and after a brief stop in Plano, will be rolling in some time tomorrow morning... setting up camp and driving the bike course.

Good catch on the wheels! Since I am coming from afar, I will be packing 3 different sets of wheels, not knowing what to expect weather-wise. 2 bikes too, since I will be riding alongside the kiddos saturday morning to keep the legs loose (and not being willing to risk the tri bike getting involved in something nasty).

Look forward to seeing you all up there. stay safe in your travels, and keep hydrating.
