Water was pretty cold.  Air temp was 48 degrees.  Water temp was probably 55ish.  Wetsuit was perfect.  My body was fine, but when I put my face in, that was a different story.  Just sort of swam around for about 20 min getting used to the water.  Then we biked the race route.  It started raining when we got on the bikes, but it was a good ride.  I need to practice hills.   Getting a massage tomorrow to start my taper week.

 Good luck David.

Traci and Matt,

I don't want to change your plan if you already have one, but I just wanted to point out that there is a very good marathon training plan out there with 3 days/week run + crosstraining that many people have used to do very well in a marathon:

http://www.furman.edu/first/2006%20marathon%20training-first%20marathon.pdf

If you guys get Runners World there was a write up on Lance's training plan for Boston marathon in the issue last month and it looked somewhat like the aboveSmile

That's a good looking plan Claire. I've been looking at using the plan out of "Marathoning for Mortals" by John Bingham. Both of these look similar. I'm going to try and convert it to a plan that can be uploaded into BT, and if so, I'll let you guys know.

Hey guys.. I just got back from my triathlon.  It went quite well.  I know that I was faster pace wise in every category than 2 weeks ago.  I don't have the results yet but I'll be sure to post them when I do.  I took first place in my division (fat boy 225+ division ;-)) and I got a nice plack for it.  I am almost cheating though.  I was 230 2 weeks ago and I am now at 225, so I was on the brink of not actually being that category.  I feel amazing now and I definitely think that doing triathlons is the best high you can get :-)  Hope ya'll have had a great weekend!

Great Job David. Don't eat too lots though. I gained-back a bunch of pounds after my first tri this year from the "well now that's over" mentality.

Wow!  Congrats on the race!  I can't wait to read the detailed race report!  Way to go!  Winning Cyldes (super clyds) is still a great accomplishment.  So GREAT Job!

Awesome job David.  We have an All-Star in our group.

Didn't do any training today.  I had to get "real" life stuff done today since next weekend is my daughter's birthday party and my race.  Put together patio furniture most of the day.  I did get a massage this morning.

Have a good week folks.

Great job on the PR!! Your mind was probably tricking your body into thinking that it was getting-off easy doing just 10K and you ran faster.

I have a theory. If you really don't want to work-out and do anyway, you burn an extra 10% of calories because you're fighting yourself the whole time. It has to be true because when you want to work-out, it requires significantly less effort than when you don't want to. Just my theory.

Hey guys,

I am not going to be on BT this week as much as usual. I am out of town on business Wed - Fri, and so today and tomorrow are just going to be pretty hectic at work and my free time outside of the office will be quite limited as well as I am continuing a few days a larger training volume before I head into the three days of not so much training.

Have a great day !

Hee hee!  I like your theory!  I think you burn that extra 10% before the workout with all the worry of how bad the workout is going to be!

Agreed.

Well, I called Garmin and they told me to download all these updates to the software so I did that for about 40 minutes this morning while re-typing something that I know is on someone else's computer because no one has Adobe Writer around here... Anyway, if it works, then I'll be able to let everyone know what to do if they have the same thing happen to their 305. I think they must've updated the software on the satellites for the 405 and you have to retro-fit the 305 with the right software.

Anyway, I'm excited to see if it worked. Hope everyone's having a happy Monday. It's working-lunch time. I love these because it's free food!!!

Going through a little decision problem....  I have a "b" race this weekend (and that's probably being generous...)  I don't want to mess up my training and motivation and start a long taper, but I kind of have a goal to break 3 hours (I'd have to get lucky to do that).  How long can you wait to start a taper I'm wondering?

My plan has an OK day today, but I may add 30-45 minutes MORE biking tomorrow....

Are you talking about how to taper for your Oly this weekend? Well, if it's truly a "B" race, you don't want to taper too much; but if going for sub-3 is a tough goal for you and you really want to achieve it, you need to be ready.

I tapered for an Oly last year. the weekend before, I did a big ride (HIM training), but I think my long run was cut back. You can check my log to see what I did (I think it was around June 24). Also, three weeks prior to that, I did a mini "test" taper prior to a sprint (just like 2-3 days) just to see how my body would respond to some things. That was Jun 3ish. Feel free to see what I did for that as well....

Yeah, the problem with cookie cutter plans.....  I grabed the last week of the current plan I am working on (the taper week) and droped in for this week.  But after I did that, I siad to myself "WOW, this is a LOT of taper for an Oly".   I may revisit what I was supposed to do for my HIM and go with that instead.  Or just add some more Z1/Z2 biking as I feel warrented.  I think I will just go light on Thr. and  Fri. before the race and that's it....
