Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My race was not my best performance either! This was only my 2nd OWS (in a race) and 1st time with a wetsuit. I got the wetsuit on Thursday night, swam for about 25 min on Friday morning and about 20 min on Sat morning. So on race day I got in for a few minutes to get used to the temp and swam a few strokes. Started front middle(wanted front side but more people came to the sides and made me the middle!) started out ok but then kept getting bumped so tried to move over and went way off course. so lost the front group. tried to get in with the middle group but that never happened. My sighting was bad and I never got into a rhythm of bi-lateral breathing. Probably my worse swim ever! The bike was ok, roads were wet and it was raining so I held back on the speed ( really need more time on the bike) Did get into aero for most of it and fit felt good. My run was great for me! Need to check but I think I PR'd it! Over all glad I raced and know I will keep getting better! *race summary Toppage* Edited by kimk 2009-06-08 8:19 AM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Being the nerd I am...(I realize most of you dont' realize this...) but I kinda <3 Excel. I was wondering how much I was off "pace" for the month...so I figured I'd put a quick table together and let everyone know how great or how much room for improvement they have!! These numbers are calculated to today - meaning 8 days of 30 ~ 25.8%
Formats a little screwy from Excel - but hopefully it makes sense...So if you have a negative number - thanks for helping the team out for being ahead!! (FYI: Every other line is highlighted - it helps me follow the lines across...) |

Looks like you're on the same schedule I'm on...but probably doing much better at hitting your workouts. I had to split my swim workout up into different segments today just to get it all in. Good luck with training and enjoy taper next week. I'll be doing an HIM the same day... Actually, looks like you did better than me! I was tired and ditched the swim ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() enders_shadow - 2009-06-05 3:58 PM I ran a mile today. Hee hee! Yep, one single mile. How cool am I? On more interesting news, I got in the lottery to run the Falmouth Road Race is the Boston area this summer when we're on vacation...now that's cool. For real. So, more impetus to run lots this month. Congrats Kristin! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MDHillSlug - 2009-06-07 1:58 PM Hi, My metric century charity ride was today! The weather was a bit cooler than expected, and cooler than I was prepared for so I ended up buying some leg warmers. Wore them for the first 21 miles. I also had arm warmers that I kept on for most of the ride and kept pulling up and pushing down as I got cold or hot. Arm warmers rock! I ended up getting into a little pace line for the first 21 miles so I was able to draft and conserve my energy. Those miles went by very quickly. Unfortunately, those guys didn't want to take the rest stop so I dropped out and, well, rested. There was a rider vs dog incident within the first 10 miles with a rider going down; I almost got caught up in a pile up behind him. I don't know if he was ok or not. Heard about a rider getting a speeding ticket for doing 42mph in a 35mph zone. I bet he considers that a badge of honor! The fastest I saw was 33mph. The route had most of the hills in the middle, which was nice. It meant that you were warmed up before you started having to work really hard and that it wasn't so bad towards the end when you were really tired. Around 48 miles I was pretty much ready for it to be over but I still had 13 miles to go. The last 6 were particularly hard because the outer part of my quads were starting to cramp up. Ended up finishing the whole 61.5 miles (1 km short of 100!) in just over 4 hours, at a 15.2mph pace. This was faster than anything I expected. So far I've raised about $1550. Donations can still be accepted for about another 2 weeks. Great job, Nicole! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BbMoozer - 2009-06-07 2:13 PM Up to just over 16miles... that's great for me! Freaking 48 degrees this am here in WI. Wayyyyy too cold for June. But not bad for running. Nice job Sarah! Yep, 48 is great for running, but kinda sucks otherwise. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() RunningJayhawk - 2009-06-07 2:25 PM And for today's lesson, we're going to educate lil' Running Jayhawk on the importance of proper nutrition on a long ride and the consequences she'll face when she fudges it all up!! The.WORST.62.miles.EVER. Seriously. My afternoon has been spent in tears. I'm just glad it's over and I'm back in my pj pants. Sorry you had such a tough ride. Hope your feeling better now |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kcarroll - 2009-06-07 3:54 PM Another Central Park run this morning, called The New York Mini 10k. It's the oldest women's only race, started 38 years ago. Not sure about the Mini part, since it is 6.2. Usually NYRR races have lots of "characters." Always great people watching. Not many costumes today, but some pretty inspiring sights. In the chutes I was next to Team G'ma. That was Grandma Judy who was turning 70 this week and running with her daughter and 3 granddaughters. The #1 finisher in the 75 - 79 age group finished in 52:31....well ahead of me. Also saw a woman in full muslim garb and headress...she had to be so hot, but she was ahead of me the entire race. There were pro's running and the # 1 finisher was Rose Kosgei, who finished in 32.43...I wasn't even at the halfway mark at that time. Perhaps the most inspiring though was a women who'd lost one leg from the knee down and was running with crutches. Love running in CP. Congratulations!!! Sounds like a fun race! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() doctorbob18 - 2009-06-07 11:15 PM thank you so much to everyone who gave me an inspire for the race this weekend, but unfortunately i did not perform well. It was olympic distance and i was exiting T2 at 1:45:00 and with how awesome my run training has been, breaking 2:30:00 seemed inevitable. As soon as i exited transition the abdominal craps started. I've never been in so much pain. It took me 23 minutes to cover the first two miles. After that I finallly gave into the pain and stayed at a pace that was barely tolerable (about 9:30). I wanted to cry because I knew I was throwing a great race and all my hard training away, but there was nothing I could do. I hope others had a better weekend than me! Sorry about the cramps ( hoping it wasn't actually craps ![]() |
