C'mon guys!!!!!  Time to double up on that yardage for the last week!!  I plan to obliterate my goal distance (as long as my shoulder doesn't give out...  )

We can't let these wonderful ladies of BT out swim us!!!!!!!!  Besides, I can't bare (sorry couldn't help myself) to have my picture posted....

LETS GO GUYS,

I am doing all I can to reach my goal.  My pool just changed to summer hours, and I have to ask my MOTHER -IN LAW to pick up the kids so I can swim right after work.  Talk about going out on the limb.  I don't know what is worse, asking my mother -in -law or posting a pick of me in my plum smuggler.

I'll meet my goal today..plan to beat it considerably by the end of the month.

I couldn't swim 50 yards straight when I started in February, and I will do more than 20k yards this month, including some rough water ocean swimming. Whether we lose or win, that's progress and I'll strip down for pics without a qualm, if necessary.

I almost totally missed the past 2+ weeks after tweaking my rotator cuff surfing, but I`m feeling good, and should be able to put some good yardage in for the rest of the week. I won`t reach my goal, but it will still be my best swimming month for several years. I`m sorry to have let the guys down, but hopefully I can make a positive impact this week!

possum - 2005-05-24 7:03 AM OK, so that's how you want to play: Hollis (possum) swim in April: 7750 yds Hollis challenge for May: 30,000 yds. I might not make it, but I'm kicking more a$$ than I ever thought possible.

Hollis (possum) bike in April: 73.68 Miles

Hollis bike for May: 30.4 miles

What happened here?

That suggests an interesting "challenge" of sorts.  The question is how we would measure and compare.  Obviously it's easier to crank up your effort in one sport at the expense of the others, but you end up with roughly the same training volume overall.  How much has everyone cut back on biking and running to reach their swim goals?

i started getting into serious training for my july tri from end mar n had been trying to balance work, study, training n social life since then, its not been easy but till now still managable.

i didn't really forgo any bike or run mileage to increase my swim mileage, how i did it is by doing some additional run during lunch time n also in the evening do my swim before doing my run(walk n jog ) i think its a matter of time management n focus.

by saying so i hope i m able to keep my focus on my training till my july event

I increased ALL of my goals for May. I didn't sacrifice anything for swimming (except maybe my shoulders).

I had to ship my bike to FL for the tri, and it had to be shipped back here to WI. (loss of about 10 days) It came back on Sat, and I went to the bike store on Monday to learn to put it back together myself. We are finishing it tonight. I'll ride it tonight. So there!

Sheesh, you're worse than my mom!

Except for my biking (damn weather!), I've already exceeded my time in all disciplines this month, and I still have almost a week left to train! And for the run and swim, this means the heaviest volume month for each EVER. The swim goal represents a 30% increase over my last month, which was, at the time, my heaviest swim volume month EVER.

So it's a good month, I think.

Same here.  By the end of the month I'll probably be +25% swimming, +35% biking, and +25% running over last month.  But I really do need to back down a little...my 1/2 IM isn't for 15 weeks and I'm already pushing close to peak training volume.

Not at all...just wondering if people are letting the rest of their training go in the dumper to put on a good showing for the swim challenge.  I specifically didn't opt into the run challenge because I thought it was a bad idea to push for very challenging goals in 2 sports at the same time...FOCUS!  But I'll still run 100+ miles this month and bike 250+.

Same here... I actually increased my volume in all 3 sports. But that's because of my sadistic coach rather than choice  :)

Hey Guys...I jacked up may ankle last night running into a chair while playing volleyball...It was completely swollen this morning and I can't flex it at all..so my swimming, biking and running may be done for the month.

For my monthly goal, I entered my scheduled training yardage. Since then I've been working with the goal of adhering to the training plan as much as possible.

Entering the challenge was a way to keep me on the training plan. It hasn't been 100%, but close enough to feel good about my training. This challenge isn't so much a competition for me, as an exercise in accountability for adherence to my training schedule.

And a chance to see "The Girls of BT Swimsuit Issue".

My April swim total was 21,300 yards. My pledge was 30,000 yards and as of today I am at 33,075. I have followed my plan for bike and run, so I have not taken away from them. Alas, although I feel stronger in the water, I am not getting any faster. I tested myself today and my 100 pace is exactly the same as the last time I tested, probably 2 or more months ago. Blech.
