Veteran 116 elizabethtown | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread treadster - 2011-05-13 9:17 AM I was just in PCB for the GCT. We stayed at the Boardwalk. I reviewed our stay on my blog. While the Boardwalk wasn't great, being close to the swim start saved my bacon. There was a good bit on inconvenience with it staying at the venue for the race. I'm sure this will be amplified in Nov. for IMFL. The Summit looks close enough to be convenient but far enough away to not impact your non-race activities. The pix of the room look very nice. You can rest assured that these are the best pix. they could take. Good luck I hope it's nice. Holy cow what a great review of the area in your blog. Thanks so much for all that info. We are staying at the boardwalk for Florida, made our reservations when I signed up for the race. I feel bad for my family that is traveling there with me, but I'm sure it will be fine. Interesting about the parking lot also. The restaurant review was nice, thanks so very much. Still looking forward to the race and see you all there. |

Which one is right? Map is wrong....map is the 2009 and prior years course.
So......what is the 2011 course? I'm also very confused & heading down next weekend to ride portions. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi everyone. Hope everyones training is going well. I'm feeling seriously undertrained right now. I moved and I've been battling a hip injury which (knocks on wood) I think is finally better. I have to let go of what "normal" run training and volume is vs what my body can handle. The pool in my new town SUCKS duck eggs. Seriously its horrible. I raced last weekend and was attacked by jellyfish. I'm just a little ray of sunshine huh? I had fun stalking everyone at IMTX yesterday. |

Extreme Veteran 546 Oakland, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread How is the swim for IM Florida the last few years. Is it typically choppy? I have don St Anthony's in the chop and it wasn't a blast. Want to try and get in some OWS like the water we will see. Any comment would be appretiated. |

What plan are you using? I'm going with Matt Fitzgerald's Level 5 plan. I started about the same time as you. It's tough already! It looks like he me doing a brick every week! Trust the plan. Trust the plan. Trust the plan. |

Depends on the wind. I've done IMFL 4 times and gulf coast once which is the same venue. Add in all the practice swims I have done there and I have probably swum the course at least 12-14 time. Worst I have seen it was at gulf coast 2010 with probably 4-5 foot chop. Best was 2008 where it was flat as glass. Usually its somewhere in between. |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi All, Still kind of on a break. Working out everyday but not the intensity as before IMTX. I didn't race it but our team had people racing IMTX so we all did the same workouts, other than the LR on Sunday. Told my wife that after New Orleans I'd cut back a little until IMFL kicks in. In addition, my daughter is getting married in a few weeks so I have been sprucing up the house and yard for all our visitors. Really about the only thing that is suffering is the bike as I still swim 3 times a week and run 3 times a week. It's just the bike takes so long on Sat long rides so about all I ride right now is 2 hours on Sat. And yea, my long run is only about 8 miles right now but that's OK as it is easy to pick that back up. Kind of enjoying the break right now. End of June I'll pick it back up again. Oh yea, a reverse sprint in Naples this weekend. Lot of fun and a GREAT breakfast afterward! enjoy, Duane

While I may not have ben exercising my body, my credit card has had a heck of a workout, IMFL11 bike build in full flow, got a new (old stock - 2008/9 model) Kuota K-Factor frame and fork, & mostly SRAM Force components to put on it (have a set of HED3 clincher wheels and a vision/profile design cockpit already) Hope to complete build by end of June - the mail can be kinda slow. |

Extreme Veteran 744 Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Does anyone know what flavor(s) of Ironman Perform they are using for IM FL, or what flavor(s) they used last year? Perform is still not available in Canada so I need to order some of the flavor(s) being used on the course. I finally managed to get my hands on some lemon lime Perform and I'm not very impressed. I think the odd after-taste is going to be a problem late in the day. |

I'm not a fan of ANYTHING lemon lime flavored (ick) so I didn't take any. On the run it was the berry flavored which is actually not bad. NOW. This does not mean they will do the same thing this year. When gatorade was the on course beverage they had lemon lime and orange but flipped it from bike and run course on different years (I've done IMFL 4 times) You probably won't truely know until you get to the venue and ask. |

I think the odd after-taste is going to be a problem late in the day. I have not tried the lemon-lime. I went to the local GNC. Come to find out I knew the lady working at the store. They had 2 full boxes and she stated they never sell any of it so she gave me both boxes for $14...which I think was about 1/2 price. They were the orange and berry flavors. I wasn't too impressed with the taste at first, but I have become accustomed to it now. Figure I will drink all 3 flavors just so I am fully prepared for whatever flavor they throw at us on race day. Regular 73 Charleston, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread lemon-lime is the only flavor offered since Power Bar took over for Gatorade. Best to train on the lemon-lime. It does ahve more sodium then the Gator drink. Last year after Louisville it took a month before I would even loook at the Power Bar drink |

Regular 125 Saint Johns, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Can anyone provide the short list of properties to look at on VRBO? Do I just basically look at everything on the "Longbeach" section? I want a condo/flat. Preferably 3-4 bedrooms (Kids and In-Laws are coming, a few volunteers I train with may want to crash). Want it to be near the action to make it easy on them. I don't think noise/etc. will matter much to me or to them. To have everyone stay in one place, I don't mind spending a few bucks (don't want to overspend, but $200-300/night to get a nice clean place where all 7-10 members of my support team can stay and eat doesn't seem like a terrible deal to me). So for those that have been there, know the course and what hotels are where, can anyone compare/recommend: Shores of Panama (I've heard this is close) Ocean Ritz (Not sure if it's close enough) Majestic Beach Towers I&II (Seems to be a lot of larger condos here) Boardwalk Beach Resort (Obvious, but limited... Maybe too crazy?) Grandview West at Long Beach (Most ads say under 25 OK, so I assume this is a Spring Break Dump). Again, since there's two 4 year olds involved, I want them to be able to hang at the pool/in the room, and then come down around the time they think I'll be going by to see daddy on T1 or T2, etc. without having to walk terribly far. Any guidance? E-Dub |
